License tagging for Image:Basil_E_Frankweiler.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Basil_E_Frankweiler.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:25, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Masters of Evil headshots.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Masters of Evil headshots.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:16, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

I seem to recall that I've asked you about this before, but despite my (and others') efforts, you declined at the time.

Sock puppet check

Thanks for the note. Seems like a good way to address this issue. I have added my support and thrown in more evidence and underlined my concerns about the size, scale and scope of the problem. We'll see how it goes. (Emperor (talk) 22:37, 19 December 2008 (UTC))

OK looks solid. I think there is a clear, ongoing WP:BLP violation and breaking of consensus, which has required numerous reversions. Which looks to tick the box for code C. I'll keep an eye on it and throw in my thoughts if needed. (Emperor (talk) 02:15, 20 December 2008 (UTC))

Heads up - There's a suspiciously related series of edits on the Zsuzsanna Budapest page. 168.58.212.202 reverts an edit by User:Hungarian_Friend who has previously added a large amount of material to the Budapest article. Oddly, this material seems to fit with our alleged sock puppet's obsessions and is described with their odd language pattern in the edit summary. Very strange. Anniepoo (talk) 05:01, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

Could still be the same person trying to throw us off the scent. Or it could be someone else. Several of the sock puppets have been confirmed as coming from the IP address. Those that haven't were too old to be considered by the admins who do the user checks. I still need to check and see what follow-up actions were taken. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 09:58, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
OK, the IP address has been blocked for 6 months. Of course, they may show up on a different IP, but that should at least create some inconvenience in the short run. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 10:02, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
The talk page for the IP address in question User talk:164.58.212.202 contains the same info they were blocked for, linking a RL name to a wiki account.
This probably is counterproductive to the idea of preserving editor's identities.
I'm not overly concerned by this, but it seems to make the exercise moot.

Checkuser advice, part 2

Working independently from Emperor, I created a suspected sock puppet case for the user who Emperor was considering doing a CheckUser on. After reading further, it appears that an RFCU might be necessary as well, so I filed one here. This user appears to have been abusing sock puppets for over a year, so my notices are overly lengthy, but I hope that won't be cause for them to be ignored. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 01:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)

At first glance, it looks fairly well-documented to me. (Having done a few of those myself, I know how much work they can be.) At this point, I guess we'll have to wait and see what the checkusers say. - jc37 12:33, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Oops... When responding, I was looking at your first link, not the second. Looks like they agreed : ) - jc37 12:35, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Yep, they did. Thanks for your help! --GentlemanGhost (talk) 10:15, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Crystal Fractal Comics

I am responding late to the Prod deletion as part of the comics program to delete the Crystal Fractal Comics page...

I wanted to see if it can be "legitimized" and undeleted...

Some of the recent real references (i.e. not just press releases) are:

http://www.thenewspaper.ca/index.cfm?pagepath=the_archives&id=8572&modeX=BlogID&modeXval=A8D17399-C8E7-F06A-4AC4C1C5E697E1DD&BlogID=A8D17399-C8E7-F06A-4AC4C1C5E697E1DD&action=showcomments - an article in the Toronto Published "the newspaper" (this is the online version)

and

http://www.snapdowntowntoronto.com/display/68421/1464/ - an article by SNAP (a local Toronto newspaper)

One of the key reasons for adding this page is the company is the only publishing company based in Canada at this time taking proposals -- aside from wom from comic stores... this has not been proven... but in the process of seeing if this is true...

The article was written as a request from readers who wanted to see it listed on the "offical list of comic book publishers" page...

Let me know if that is in the right direction...

Nice user page

Thought I hadn't seen you red linked name in my watchlist for a while. Now I know why. You better have one of these, thinking about it:

The Comics Star

Take it easy, Hiding T 11:47, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar!
As for my new user page, I had originally avoided creating one because I felt that it really wasn't that important who I am. The work should stand on its own (or, for that matter, be reverted on its own). But, I have since discovered that there's a perception that having a red-linked username indicates that you are either a newbie or antisocial. Since neither of those qualities are true of me, I thought I'd better put together a userpage. :-)
The barnstar will make a nice addition to it.
--GentlemanGhost (talk) 19:43, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
Ah, I never thought you were a newbie or antisocial, I just thought you were a ghost. But it's a nice userpage. I'm just disappointed your name doesn't light up on my watchlist anymore. ;( Hiding T 00:55, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

People I know are now telling me that they went after I posted some pics on my Facebook. Went there and took photos to upload to Commons, only bought one thing. Saturday was good because that was when they had the movie panels. BrokenSphereMsg me 00:05, 4 March 2009 (UTC)
I went to some of the panels, which were good, if not great. Other than that, I spent most of my time in Artists' Alley chatting up anyone who worked on the comics of my formative years. I also only bought one item. From what I hear, that was a common theme this year. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 00:19, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! And, yes, it would nice if there was an advice page like that. I assume that it's something you could put on your user page, although I have come across editors who feel that even the user page should only be used for information pertinent to Wikipedia. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 03:44, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
No problem. Yeah, the user page is really only for information pertinent to Wikipedia, but we tend to cut slack to people who contribute. There needs to be some sort of fine balance found. I don;t know what that balance is though. Hiding T 11:33, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello

Just wanted to say Hi, after having passed my recent Request for adminship. How's everything going?

I don't know how much you've looked into the comics project's GA drive; so far, we have been successful in the last few months with Spider-Man, Spider-Man: One More Day, Silver Age of Comic Books, Alex Raymond, Winnie Winkle, LGBT themes in comics, Hergé, and Pride & Joy (comics).

I think I've seen you around the D&D project as well, so I'd like to point out to you the success we've had there: Gary Gygax, Wizards of the Coast, Dragons of Despair, Drizzt Do'Urden, Forgotten Realms, Tomb of Horrors, Dwellers of the Forbidden City, White Plume Mountain, The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, Planescape: Torment, Dragonlance, and Against the Giants, and we plan to hit Dave Arneson and Drow (Dungeons & Dragons) after some work. :) BOZ (talk) 17:56, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

I'm doing well, thank you. Congratulations on your adminship! I haven't been around much lately, but as time permits, I'll try to help with the GA candidates. :-) --GentlemanGhost (talk) 00:14, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Great, thanks. :) Just keep an eye on both wikiproject talk pages from time to time, as I post updates regularly. :) BOZ (talk) 19:20, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey there. :) Just wanted to let you know that I just added a bunch of comics articles needing assessment on the Marvel Comics work group page; if you're still doing that. :) BOZ (talk) 22:58, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

I haven't done those for a while - I've been concentrating on the backlist of all comics articles which have not been assessed. I'll probably do a few once in a while, though. :-) --GentlemanGhost (talk) 23:52, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
You'll find most of those in the backlog eventually anyway. :) BOZ (talk) 00:27, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks...

...for calling out the outing attempt just now. Your edits set off a vandalism alarm, which brought it to my attention so I could get an oversighter to remove those revisions from the history. I've given that user a slightly sterner warning, and will be keeping a closer eye on them from now on. Thanks again. Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:19, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

No, if you ever see another instance of outing or posting of private information like that, it's best not to post about it much on-wiki, as you don't want it to spread out further than it needs to. The best thing to do is to contact the oversighters (their email is on WP:OS) and let them take a look at it. Quickly removing it as you did helps as well, as then it at least isn't on the live version of the page. Hersfold (t/a/c) 01:34, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. Will do. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 01:38, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Rachel Pollack battle history

Hey, Wraithkind has just pulled some chunks out of the anti sock puppet discussion out of talk:Rachel_Pollack While I understand the motivation of protecting privacy, in this case it conflicts with the utility of having a history that the page has been the target of a persistent vandal. I'm asking you to look at it since you're more experienced than I. [the diff] Anniepoo (talk) 04:59, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

The account is a SPA, it's an odd edit for a SPA, the other edit fits the vandal's pattern marginally. Wonder if our blocked editor is back? Anniepoo (talk) 05:36, 27 June 2009 (UTC)

Could be. I've reverted the change. I'll keep an eye on it. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 18:38, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

I think our blocked editor is definitely back. They erased much of the search for them from the Rachel Pollack discussion page. Anniepoo (talk) 17:56, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Obamacomic

Thanks for the help on Barack Obama (comic character). My concern about COI comes simply from the fact that it's to my advantage (as the writer of Licensable BearTM and the publisher of About Comics) that this page continues to exist and document that mine was the first Obama comic. As such, taking a step to document notability serves my own nefarious goals. Nat Gertler (talk) 20:13, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. And that may be true, but it's such a roundabout way of doing it that only the strictest rules lawyer would accuse you of self-promotion. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 20:19, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

Please do not accuse me of harrassment

You are incorrect sir. I did not "Out" anyone. The editor in question simply states openly who he is with his image,[2] as I do.[3] It would have absolutely nothing to do with the article, if the editor was not the subject who created the page. That is not outing.

The image the editor kept reverting back, shows that the editor has indeed openly Credited himself. Discovering this mad it clear that the user has a conflict of interest as the founder of the theatre in question and the subject of the article he created. I can be blunt and that dos not always read well on screen, but I am not harrassing this user.--Amadscientist (talk) 20:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I feel that I should not go "Over board" in bringing this to the attention of other editors. (although I would have to think that is subjective to each editor) Not just because the user has not choosen to place his name on his user page, as that does not mean he did not intend to be attributed for his actual work.( I removed my name from my page, but continue to return to older images and place my name on the "Sharealike" image in order to keep anyone from claiming or crediting my images improperly. Which McClatchy Newspaper had done online). I did not actualy discover for certain untill after the users ban when I was looking at the upload page for the Forest Theatre image. I was not attempting to use his absense to push things through. The AFD will give the user time to return and still add input.
I edit openly and honestly about biographical information and subjects I am directly linked to. My edits during the Proposition 9 controversy in regards to an Artistic Director I was directly involved with were neutral and I kept an eye open for vandalism and accusations against someone I was personally upset with. It is a learning experience and actually helped me to understand the importance of neutral prose and the seriousness of issues in regards to living people. So I have purposely not edited any further on all of the pages during the AFD process, and have not taken this to Admin notice board for a very simple reason. We are encouraged to deal with issues ourselves first. I have communicated with the user as much as I could and only brought this to attention on the article talk page of the two articles that are effected where I was involved, at the Project Biography talk page, the AFD discussion and my own userpage. There was a required link to another project during the AFD process that I think was simply California and then there was a link placed to the AFD discussion to actors and performers that was either automated or placed by another editor. The creepy comment seems uncalled for but was the honest reaction at the time to the discovery and feeling a little used and dirty. Sorry, it is the truth. I wouldn't go that far on any other place and take full responsibility for how that makes me look.--Amadscientist (talk) 22:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm glad that you are not intractable and still striving for neutral prose when you have a conflict with someone. I disagree that nominating a page for deletion while the original editor (and, alas, subject) is on a 3-day block is fair play, though. There's no rule against it, but to my mind, it's dirty pool. Theoretically, he could use that time to make adjustments to the article per suggestions that come up in the AfD. If the article isn't acceptable to the community after that, it will be eliminated. But now it's as if he's fighting with one hand tied behind his back. There should be trust placed in the Wikipedia community to get rid of that which Wikipedia is not; it is not necessary to handicap the offending editor to make that happen. --GentlemanGhost (talk) 02:25, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

I found a way to do it by importing the list to Wikipedia and using a javascript tool to turn redirects green, then culling and using that list to assess in AWB. Another 79 articles knocked off. Hiding T 18:38, 4 October 2009 (UTC)

Excellent! Nice work! --GentlemanGhost (talk) 01:00, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Front cover art for The Evil that Men Do.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Unreferenced BLPs

Hello GentlemanGhost! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 939 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Gail Greenwood - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

WikiProject Theatre Newsletter - February 2010

The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter (Febrauary 2010)
The WikiProject Theatre Newsletter!
Issue 5 - February 2010

Welcome to the latest WikiProject Theatre newsletter (the first in quite a while!) bringing you news of what's going on in the project, what progress we're making, and how you can get involved.

Latest News
  • All theatre articles currently tagged with a project banner have now been assessed for quality. There are still plenty to assess for importance, though - see the article assessment page for details.
  • There is now a News section on the main project page, updated automatically to keep us informed of developments in theatre articles.
Collaboration of the Month
  • Theatre has been nominated as the next project collaboration. This could be an excellent opportunity to improve the quality of one of our most important articles - listed as one of Wikipedia's top 1000 most vital articles - but it needs a lot of work before it can be considered for even good article nomination!
  • Stop by the collaboration page for tips on how to improve an article, to add your support, or to suggest alternative or future collaborations.
Jobs you can do

Any and all improvements to theatre-related articles will help the project, but if you're looking for something to do, have a look at the to-do list. Some current areas of priority are:

If you are currently working on a particular topic or area of the project, and would like to muster some support from other editors, feel free to add tasks to the to-do list. Or even think about setting up an informal working group - create a project subpage to organise tasks in a central location. Remember you can always discuss ideas with others at the project talk page.

New members

If you've been editing a theatre-related article recently and noticed another user helping you who also appears to have an interest for the subject of theatre, why not drop them a line and invite them over to the project?

And finally...

You have received this newsletter because your name is on the list of Members on the WikiProject page. If this information is out of date and you no longer wish to receive the newsletter, please remove your name from the list, or click here to stop receiving it.

Fair use rationale for File:Front cover art for The Evil that Men Do.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Front cover art for The Evil that Men Do.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:04, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
