"Modern (skin)" listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has identified a potential problem with the redirect Modern (skin) and has thus listed it for discussion. This discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2022 January 12#Cologne Blue (skin) until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Windows Server 2022 page

Windows Server 2022 has been available since September 2021. So why is the page about it on Wikipedia still a redirect page? Perhaps the independent sources about it (other than Microsoft) on the Internet that we need to find are still too few? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ArmourDinhTrongGiap2003 (talkcontribs) 02:29, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

Proposal to rename Paramount page to Paramount (disambig)

Can you properly place the move request on the Paramount disambig page? Steelbeard1 (talk) 16:08, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

Blue (dog)

Hi GeoffreyT2000. I'd like to respectfully request a reversal of the moves just made at Blue (fictional dog) and Blue (dog) -- I don't believe this was uncontroversial, as I don't think a real dog is inherently a primary or that the disambiguation of just dog is adequate, and therefore this should be discussed in a move request. Thank you!--Yaksar (let's chat) 20:18, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

And apologies if it was a hassle to undo!--Yaksar (let's chat) 20:42, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

John Foal page TMs

Thanks for taking care of those, especially after my late-breaking doubling down on the work involved. Illuminating just how many hoops we lowly IP editors have to jump through to wipe our noses these days! Willy on Wheels, you have a lot to answer for... 109.255.211.6 (talk) 19:48, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

Chokha

Hi, GeoffreyT2000! I'm afraid I've reverted your move of Chokha, as I don't believe that that could reasonably have been considered an "uncontroversial technical request" (well, it was a request, I suppose, just not the other two things). That doesn't mean I have any objection to you or anyone else starting a WP:RM discussion, of course. On the whole I think we do best to move such requests to "contested" if there's any reason to think that they might be; and I think that we can safely assume that just about anything relating to ethnicity in the Caucasus will fall under that heading. Requested move

Your response to my request at WP:RM/TR

I'm not sure you fully understood my request at WP:RM/TR. You reverted the last edits to List of Hindi film actors and List of Bollywood actors (which I pointed to in my request), leaving the former a redirect to Bollywood, instead of the more approrpiate target, which would be the latter title: List of Bollywood actors), and explaining in each edit summary that you were reverting a "cut-and-paste move per request". But my request was not about reverting a "cut-and-paste move". (I now see that the page I chose to list my request under was not the best choice, since it was not the result of a page move, like most of the others I was objecting to, which I tried to direct attention to by linking to this list of contributions [see the page moves in that list].) I'm not entirely sure the best way to go about trying to effect the changes I wanted, which was to revert all recent moves or redirects made to page titles containing "Bollywood" that were justified using the consensus reached at a single talk page without the input of any interested parties at all those other pages. Should I retry posting a request at WP:RM/TR, or should I go to another venue? - dcljr (talk) 03:08, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

@Dcljr: See my reply at WP:RM/TR#Requests to revert undiscussed moves. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 03:32, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello GTrang,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 819 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 859 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Broken redirects

Hello, GeoffreyT2000,

Thank you for finding, tagging and sometimes fixing these broken redirects that can result from article deletions. I rely on User:AnomieBOT III/Broken redirects to catch them but that report is only issued about every six hours so finding them sooner can help us keep up. I think you have your own method of locating them.

I do know that we have fewer broken redirects than we did months ago because, my guess at least is, more admins are deleting pages using Twinkle which will delete all redirects when it deletes a page. Funny enough though, Twinkle will not delete a redirect if it is a Talk page so they still show up regularly on AnomieBOT III's report if no one spots them sooner. Thanks again for all of your work! Page Denis Yip disappear from search engine

Dear GeoffreyT2000

I have amended the page Denis Yip according admin instruction, adding reliable secondary source for the content. The page was able to search in Google last week. However, when I search it again this week, the page disappear from the search engine. May I know the reason? Thank you so much~

I have ask another admin Sdraqz about the question above, he replied:

Denis Yip has disappeared from search engines because it was marked as unreviewed by GeoffreyT2000; you will have to ask him why that happened. I believe it will become eligible for search engine indexing at the end of the month.

May I know is there any problem with the page and would it be able to become eligible for search engine at the end of this month? Many thanksMichael Biu (talk) 09:55, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

Elijah Green

Hello,

I noticed you reverted my edits (and links) to 'Elijah Green', a prospect in the upcoming MLB Draft, redirecting to the original link for the page name (to Pumpsie Green). A couple of things:

1. Why? When I changed where the phrase 'Elijah Green' links to (to the prospect), I built out his page, added a variety of sources, and even included a hat note redirecting people to 'Pumpsie Green' (and did the reverse as well). I'd understand if you figured it was a little too early to publish the page, maybe until the draft itself, but no mention of this was made. The prospect is a highly-rated prospect who will likely go in the top five of the draft, clearly having notability. He also has the specific name 'Elijah Green', whereas most (if not all) people know 'Pumpsie Green' by the nickname 'Pumpsie'. The prospect should have the base name, and I would petition to admins to have this done if he ended up with a disambiguated name (the link Elijah Green (outfielder) was also used).

2. On that note, when you reverted the edits, this other link got messed up. Pumpsie Green is an infielder, yet now Elijah Green (outfielder) links to his page. I had changed where this link went to (to my 'Elijah Green' page), but with the reversion, it got redirected again. Please do check stuff like this occurring. I believe it originally linked to Eric Green (tight end)#Personal_life, as this is the prospect's father.

Anyways, please do let me know what guided you to revert my edits. Totally alright if you felt it was too early, but I disagree if you do not think he has notability or the right to the non-disambiguated name for 'Elijah Green'. Would be happy to discuss. New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello GTrang,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 10962 articles, as of 00:00, 14 May 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.
