Bell Tower is a four-piece alternative rock band from Calgary, Alberta. They have released two singles and one EP album.[1] Currently Bell Tower plays local shows and do not tour. Winners of the 2009 MRC Battle Royale, [2] Bell Tower is among few bands represented by their current label (Studio014), and have clearly brought attention to the independent Calgarian entertainment company.

Biography[edit]

The band started in early 2009 when drummer Ross Watson, and vocalist/guitarist Tom Englund, got together to jam. They were later joined by bassist Jordan Ackerman (formally of “The Birds Of Paradise”), and lead guitarist Mike Hudec in order to play a benefit show for Multiple Sclerosis. [3]

In late February 2009, the band met with the owner/general manager of Studio014 Entertainment and were offered a record deal within a week of their first meeting.[1] Shortly after, Bell Tower entered in the MRC Battle Royale, [4] which commenced on March 27th 2009. Tom announced at the show that their first single would be posted on their MySpace after the show. On May 28th 2009 "Mr. Popular", the bands debut single hit MySpace. [5]

On April 17th, Bell Tower won the MRC Battle Royale [6] [7] and were offered a show at The Marquee Room by judge and musician Lorrie Matheson[8][9]. The band then hit the studio in order to put together an EP prior to the show. They were also booked for Sled Island 2009,[10] and another show at the Liberty Lounge, where the MRC Battle Royale had taken place.

The Marquee Room later confirmed the show by releasing that Bell Tower would play on May 28th, opening for Calgary local bands Pine Tarts, and Hazard Lights.[11][12]

About a month later, the band released their second single titled "It's For The Girl", which was to be featured on their debut album along with their first single and 4 others. Studio014 Entertainment released track listing and album artwork [13] shortly after the release of "It's For The Girl" and announced a Special Pre-Release Edition would be available at the The Marquee Room show.
