Ethanol

I reverted your revision to ethanol as I suspect it was a typo. If not, I would appreciate an explanation to the revision of hydrolysis. Cheers. Sandcherry (talk) 01:50, 2 September 2014 (UTC) (A former suburban Pennsylvanian)

Tracking spam links

Good work. Haven't seen the "tracking link" system before, though - is this documented somewhere? It seems a little strange to be doing spammers the favour of oblique inbound links, when user pages can get spidered and mirrored on sites without Wikipedia's nofollow policy (I assume most spam domains would happily redirect anything.domain.com to their main page). --McGeddon (talk) 11:34, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

I don't know if it is documented anywhere, but it is a method used by Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam to track spammers. I'd be surprised if the links generate any significant traffic to the website, and I remember being told (or reading somewhere) that it actually ends up lowering the website's page rank in search engines. You'd probably have to ask more knowledgeable folks at the spam WikiProject to get a better answer though. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:41, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll see what I can find out, and start using it myself if it's helpful to. --McGeddon (talk) 11:47, 3 September 2014 (UTC)

Autoblock collateral damage

Hi there. Your recent block of User:Doschadleus has had the unfortunate effect of setting an autoblock on an IP address belonging to one of the proxy servers of the University of Cape Town, so that a substantial portion of users at the university (myself included) are now blocked from editing. I'm not familiar with how the blocking system works, but would it be possible to remove the autoblock on the IP? Thanks, htonl (talk) 13:37, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Postscript: I have just tried again and now I can edit. I don't know if something has been changed about the block, or if I just happen to be using a proxy server with a different IP address now. - htonl (talk) 13:40, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
It's likely that there are multiple IP addresses that the university assigns to its internet users and only one will be affected by the autoblock. In any case, I have removed the autoblock to prevent this from happening again. Thanks for letting me know. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:17, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks very much for sorting that out. Regards, htonl (talk) 15:30, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Hey Ed, how are you? I saw that you're helping out, and keep up the good work here! :) --Allen talk 17:18, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Could you please fix my mistake moving a category?

I saw you deleted a page, recently, so I thought I would ask you about this. I accidentally tried to "undo" a category move, instead of moving it back over the redirect, and so the history is not where it should be. If possible, could you move Category:Taxes in Spain over Category:Taxation in Spain? I don't really mind doing another WP:RM, if necessary. (There is already a related one at Talk:Taxes in Spain.) My last edit placing the redirect will need to be undone, as well. Thanks for reading, and sorry for the mistake. —PC-XT+ 00:10, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Note: I did move the talk page properly. —PC-XT+ 00:11, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

IP at Louisiana–Lafayette athletics pages

Hi Edgar, a few months ago we had problems with disruptive edits to Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns pages by several editors. We were able to get it under control with some targeted blocks and temporarily protecting some of the pages. One of the most difficult IP's, User:66.76.18.251 has returned and is making the same types of edits to Louisiana–Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball contrary to the established consensus. I see that you were involved last time around and wondered if you could take a look and if you believe appropriate, issue another block. This is the only user making these edits as far as I can tell, so I don't believe any other actions are necessary right now. Thanks! Billcasey905 (talk) 22:45, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

I have reblocked the IP address. I have watchlisted a couple of the pages and will keep an eye on them. If the problem resurfaces later or if you think page protections are needed, please just let me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:19, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Master

At [1], thanks for re-visiting it. Was there a reason you didn't block the sockmaster account MianNoble, though? —[AlanM1(talk)]— 12:41, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

The situation just looks more like a new user not understanding the rules rather than any real attempt to abusively use multiple accounts. Blocking the second account to restrict him to using just one is all that needs to be done at this point, in my opinion. If the editor continues to be disruptive in some way, please feel free to contact me and I'll block further as necessary. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:46, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
OK. Thanks. —[AlanM1(talk)]— 14:28, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of User:SLNGCorp

Hi,

I'm new to this and was surprised to find my page deleted without even the chance to contest it. Wikipedia is global and not everyone is online 24/7. If an article is not clearly malicious or defamatory, I think consideration should be given to folks from the other side of the world who might be sleeping while the reviews are taking place, and they should be given time to contest. The spirit of free and honest contributions to information is greatly dampened by such needlessly "speedy" deletions.

I'm contesting the deletion with the following reasons: 1. SLNG is a notable organisation because it is the first LNG Terminal in Singapore and the first multi-user terminal in Asia. Most terminals around the world are for either import or export. This terminal can do both. As such, it can potentially change the LNG landscape in Asia, and the way in which LNG is traded. 2. The use of LNG in power generation, transportation, etc is a practical and greener alternative to oil or coal. Until renewable fuel sources become viable on a large sacle, LNG is the best option that we have to reduce carbon emissions. 3. This is not advertising. What was stated were essentially facts about the company and what makes it notable. Compared to the existing and very extensive Wikipedia articles on companies such as HP and Apple, there is very little mention of products and services. In any case, unlike HP and Apple which are consumer-oriented businesses, SLNG is industry-oriented. That is to say, it does not sell anything to the general public and therefore has no motivation to "advertise" on general public platforms such as Wikipedia. So, if the reason for deleting SLNG is because of "blatant advertising", then there is more reason to delete the other companies.

SLNGCorp (talk) 03:16, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

As noted in the deletion log, I deleted Singapore LNG Corporation for copyright infringement and not because I thought it wasn't a notable organization. Parts of the article text were exact copies or very close paraphrasing of content from www.slng.com.sg. That is not permitted on Wikipedia and such content is deleted immediately (see WP:CSD#G12) without the requirement that there is an opportunity for someone to object first. If you disagree with Wikipedia policy on this matter because "free and honest contributions to information is greatly dampened by such needlessly "speedy" deletions", you are free to advocate for a change in that policy. I would also strongly encourage you to read Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy which seems to apply here. Finally, you should address the response that you have received to your request for a username change or you may be blocked from editing because your username is inappropriate. I hope this helps. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:48, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

Homolycorine and Narcissus alkaloids

As you may have noticed I am working on the Narcissus page. Ideally I would like to be able to link to each of the nine alkaloid groups identified, so I thought I would start with homolycorine as one of the more important ones that so far have no page. Thanks for your help! --Michael Goodyear (talk) 01:19, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Ceritinib

The source actually says "the second-generation ALK inhibitor ceretinib (LDK378) has also recently achieved regulatory FDA drug approval in patients who have failed the crizotinib." But I'm sure you are right. :-) Axl ¤ [Talk] 08:19, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, there's a typo in the source. A quick google search turns up other examples of that misspelling as well, so I've created a redirect for ceretinib. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:08, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

Dithiole

Hi Ed, thanks for all your help with 1,2-Dithiole. These things have a thione group so the parent ring has the sequence CH=CH-C(S)-S-S. You can appreciate that they are 6-pi-e aromatic if the thione takes the C+-S- polarization. So if you get a chance to edit your drawing. Cheers, --Smokefoot (talk) 17:05, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

The chembox and image I added are consistent with the article title. If the article is intended to focus on the thione derivatives, which is fine with me, then the article should probably be moved to a different title (dithione, or maybe trithione, e.g. anethole trithione) and the image/chembox replaced to be consistent with this: ChemSpider link. I'll help with whichever you prefer. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:24, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

SuperYachtFan back

You blocked User:SuperYachtFan in April (not sure if it was for his userpage, his username, or for his spam edits). He has just created a new account "19:50, September 29, 2014 User account Peter-yacht-fan (talk | contribs) was created by SuperYachtFan (talk | contribs) (last one blocked)". User:Peter-yacht-fan has already made a similar edit spamming the completely non-WP:RS http://www.superyachtfan.com/ as a source. Meters (talk) 20:40, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Even though the edits from this account were inappropriate, I blocked SuperYachtFan solely for the username connection to the website being promoted, superyachtfan.com. Peter-yacht-fan is a suitable username to use instead, but the inappropriate edits are just as problematic and I support your reverts. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:13, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I have no problem with his new name either, and he seems to be willing to do the right thing. I'll see if I can help him use more suitable references. Meters (talk) 18:11, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Are my edits inappropriate or even 'problematic' as mentioned above? Or the fact that I used my own site as a reference? Again.. the same info can be found on several other sites - including other wiki pages, I just combined those facts on my website... It is a fact that he lived on board, and that the yacht was sold to Craig McCaw after he died. The helicopter on board is registered to McCaw's investment firm... The address is the same as the 'Craig and Susan McCaw foundation'. I see that referring to my own website is a bit 'gray area', but the edit is relevant to Bram van Leeuwen and the yacht New Horizon L / White Cloud.. You seem to be a bit irritated that I refer to my own site, but I still think removing the edit is overreacting... Peter-yacht-fan (talk) 20:47, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

answered at in thread User talk:Meters#Super Yacht Fan. Yes, the recent edit would unacceptable, regardless of how well it was sourced. (I have not looked at your old edits from your original user account. Meters (talk) 23:06, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Dear Edgar181

Please see the message I send to Meters. I am no spammer. Dear Meters,

Can you please reconsider your correction? I think you are overreaction regarding my 'spamming'. If I would be spamming, I would place dozens of links all over Wikipedia. But actually there are just 3 or 4 links from Wikipedia to my site, of which 1 or 2 were put online by myself. Apparently the competent moderator did not consider the info as spam. In this case it was not spam.. It is widely known that Bram van Leeuwen lived on his yacht https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et9mZ387kgY Also it is a fact that his partner sold the yacht after he died http://www.superyachttimes.com/editorial/3/article/id/8815 And even Wikipedia mentions that Craig McCaw bought her https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feadship So if I would be searching Bram van Leeuwen on Wikipedia, than I would consider this relevant, or at least interesting. The fact that my site has a general disclaimer does not mean that all data is incorrect. Wikipedia is referring to more sites with disclaimers.... So please reconsider.. I am no spammer. Peter Super Yacht Fan Peter-yacht-fan (talk) 06:19, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

I don't think the content you've added are appropriate additions to Wikipedia articles and I don't think the website should be considered a reliable source of information. If you disagree, you can start a discussion at WP:RSN. You should also have a look at some of Wikipedia's relevant policies before continuing to edit: WP:RS, WP:COI, and WP:EL. I hope this helps. Port of Waterford

Hello Edgar, why did you remove my perfectly legitimate poem about the above? If you had read it, you would see that they built the port right on top of where I was born! So what could be more appropriate than my poem? You have done this with all my edits & even accused me of vandalism in one case! What a cheek! A number of times I have contributed to Wikipedia only to be treated like this! It is totally unacceptable! John Keogh. Please reply to johnkeojon@sky.com Johnkeojon (talk) 22:41, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

I honesty can't tell if you're joking or not, so I'll just be direct. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and its articles are not an appropriate forum for posting your poetry. Therefore, it shouldn't be surprising to you that your edits are essentially indistinguishable from intentional vandalism and treated as such. -- Ed (Edgar181) 00:50, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

I wasn't aware of that template and have never seen it used. Thanks for letting me know! -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:31, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the quick block. May I request that the block for this IP be extended and his rights to edit his talk page to be disabled? After the block, he's now beginning to troll it. See this edit. Thanks. -WayKurat (talk) 13:54, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

I already removed talk page access. Usually for an IP-hopping troll such as this a short block on IP addresses is all that is needed, because they just move on to other ones fairly quickly. If there is a history in this case of sticking with IP addresses for longer, please let me know and I'll extend the block length. Thanks for your efforts in dealing with this editor. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:57, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Re: Malusia22

You might as well want to revdel the edits Mal made to Lisa Canning, Abandoned footwear, Space Sheriff Sharivan and WayKurat's talk page, especially as at least some of them were laced with Filipino obscenities directed at Way or whatever user he might come across with. Blake Gripling (talk) 14:18, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, there is just one edit summary that includes Filipino obscenities (perhaps a death threat?). I have applied revdel to that, but the rest of the edits seem to be just copies of Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Malusia22 which wouldn't qualify for revdel. If I am mistaken and have missed something, please let me know. Thanks for your help. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:27, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
You missed the two most recent ones as well. One of them a death threat of sorts roughly translating to calling WayKurat a gay fool and threatening to kill him, the other a supposed warning from Anonymous. Blake Gripling (talk) 14:34, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Ok, I see those now. I applied revdel to IP talk page. I don't like to use revdel on an editor's talk page without their permission if they are the only editor involved, so I'll email WayKurat to see what he prefers. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:39, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I'd say he won't mind having that rev purged given how blatantly profane it was to Way and I. Blake Gripling (talk) 14:42, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
WayKurat doesn't have email enabled, so I've just gone ahead and removed it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:49, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, much appreciated. Blake Gripling (talk) 14:51, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

You might want to purge the obscenities Mal made on his IP talk page recently, too. That, and given his repeated incivility using the 49.151.x.x range, would it be possible to do a rangeblock? I'm sick and tired of having my and WayKurat's personal pages and contributions littered with foul-mouthed garbage from him, and while I know it's a shared range the benefits far outweigh the consequences of leaving this open for a vandal like him to troll around. Blake Gripling (talk) 12:11, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

(reset indent) Hi Ed. Thanks for the quick response. BTW, what can you recommend in stopping this troll? He's doing IP hopping and now it goes to a part that he insults me and Blake endlessly unless he will be allowed to repost his Sindikatu/Sindikato article. Do you had any experiences with this kind of trolls previously? Thanks. -WayKurat (talk) 12:15, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Agreed. We can't just let this foolishness slide, right? I know there would be a lot of legitimate users who would be inconvenienced by a rangeblock, but the amount of damage Mal causes seems to be enough to warrant an even bigger block to hold him out at least for a while. Blake Gripling (talk) 12:20, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi Blake and WayKurat. I'm sorry that you two are experiencing this kind of harassment here. I'll do what I can to stop it. Most people like this figure out the futility of attempting this kind of trolling fairly quickly, but maybe this one isn't too bright. I'm looking into rangeblocks right now, but maybe requesting an edit filter will be best. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:21, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
Hmm, I doubt this lad would grow tired of his rather lowbrow, below-the-belt habit any soon, but as what I experienced with most trolls, he'd probably quit a year or two later. Perhaps an edit filter may do too, but seeing as how he can dodge blocks by apparently changing his editing style, imo we have no other choice but to lock the floodgates down. Blake Gripling (talk) 12:27, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
I've temporarily blocked the 49.151.0.0/16 range where some of the recent IPs reside. But unfortunately, it looks like the rangeblocks that would be needed to cover all IPs used this editor are much wider and would result in significant collateral damage. This doesn't rule out more rangeblocks, but this is something that probably shouldn't be done without consulting other administrators. I would recommend either seeking assistance at WP:ANI or requesting an edit filter (or both). In any case, I'll lend my support and help out where I can. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:43, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
It's to be expected, hence the other options as you mentioned. Way and I will try to keep our tabs on this lad for as much as we can - I'll keep the other guys posted at ANI, and yeah, the edit filter too. And thanks for the cover dude, that's much appreciated. Boy did I waste a few late nights just because of this pesky little chit. Blake Gripling (talk) 12:49, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

racism

i didnt call him as a racist because he disagrees with me.. he just used 'Ataturk' who is founder of Turkey. we are talking about history of Magnetism but he was talking about our Leader!! tell me now. who is racist?

lets talk about Magnesium's history: as you can see there are three places named Magnesia. one of them is a Region in Greece.. but two of them are cities in Turkey (Manisa and Aydın). And Magnesia is came from Magnetism.. on the Mount Spil (Spiylum) there is some magnetism. that s why the citizens (ancient Magnesia people) called it Magnetism/Magnesia..

and i saw that u wrote a reference about region of greece.. i cant accept any reference that can be changeable by any user! nobody accept it! you have to use scientific sources as a reference!!

edit: maybe this link is useful for you: http://physics.info/magnetism/

febrifugine - wrong enantiomer

Hi,

the entry that you have created for febrifugine shows the wrong enantiomer and lists the incorrect name. The depicted enantiomer shows the enantiomer that was incorrectly assigned. The CAS database shows the correct stereochemistry, I.e. 2R,3S. This has been confirmed by Kobayashi et al. through total synthesis http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jo990877k.

Best

Ralph — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mazit (talkcontribs) 20:59, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

The reference you cite indeed shows that febrifugine is not (2S,3R) but rather (2R,3S). So the IUPAC name in the box was incorrect. I have now corrected it. Thanks for catching the error and letting me know. However, I think the chemical structure image shows the correct (2R,3S) stereochemistry. Can you please double check me? 00:57, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes, you are right, the chemical structure shows the correct enantiomer. However, SMILES and InChi are for the enantiomer — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mazit (talkcontribs) 13:55, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

OK, I have now corrected that data as well. Thanks again. -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:38, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

However, I'm facing a threat of the deletion for the latter page, apparently someone doesn't like the "experimental" status of the drug. If you could possibly help me avoid having this page deleted please, I would appreciate that, I'm sure that you can understand why these pages are important to me. I am copying the actual text from my talk page here for your convenience:

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DGG ( talk ) 07:15, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm glad to help out. The "proposed deletion" tag can be removed at any time by any editor that opposes the deletion. I removed the proposed deletion tag from BIT225 when I first edited the article, so it is no longer being considered for deletion. In the future, you are free to removed it yourself if you encounter the situation again (speedy deletion and AFD work differently though). -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:13, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Deletion of Category:Mythological Creatures

I do not understand the deletion of the mentioned article. I myself am a aficionado of myths, folk tales, legends, etc., and I have enjoyed browsing through the various articles contained in that category. I don not approve of vandals like you, and i wish that you would explain your motives for doing this. BiscuitBubbles (talk) 17:45, 24 October 2014 (UTC) Biscuit

I have never deleted Category:Mythological Creatures. In fact, it has never existed. If you have a different category or article in mind, please let me know the exact title. -- Ed (Edgar181) 18:53, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
I have been accessing the page Category:Mythological Creatures for a long time, and two days ago when I typed in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mythological Creatures, the page said you had deleted it. Biscuit 00:47, 26 October 2014 (UTC).
It must be something with a different title, and until we know the exact title I don't think I can answer your question. Are you sure it's not something different like Category:Legendary creatures? -- Ed (Edgar181) 23:12, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Evofosfamide

Thanks for moving TH-302 to Evofosfamide. This was super, super fast :-)

I have 2 questions to the edits:

  • I have verified all information in the chembox, but now there are again red "Xs". Why has this changed?
  • There is at the top of the article a statement that "This article may rely excessively on sources too closely associated with the subject". I guess this is from the bot since I have quoted a lot of press releases of the company Threshold. However this can not be avoided since I want to reference the relevant clinical trial results to report the ongoing development status. Whom can I ask to remove this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LamasUI (talkcontribs) 14:16, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi LamasUI. The red Xs indicate that the values that have changed since they were verified by editors that are working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Chemicals/Chembox validation. I think I have now verified the data and made the changes that have restored the green check marks, but it's been awhile since I've done that before so hopefully it will remain verified. As for the tag on the top of the article, that was placed by me. I put it there because I think the article relies to heavily on press releases. Generally, if information is not available from any source except through press releases, that information probably isn't appropriate for the article. If independent sources are reporting on or commenting on such information then it may be notable enough to include in the article. Also, I suggest you have a look at Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy which I suspect may apply here. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:52, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi Ed. Thanks for the chembox verification. Regarding your comment on conflict of interests: My intention was a neutral reporting on the ongoing clinical development status. You will never find such detailed lists from the companies involved. However, I will delete the last two chapters to revise them (to replace the press releases with the relevant scientific papers). --LamasUI (talk) 08:37, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Your block of User:Vijayregar

I'm trying to understand why you (a) deleted this editor's userpage and (b) blocked their account. I'd already declined the CSD on the userpage and simply blanked the (non-functioning) URL that they'd left, which appeared to go to their personal site; we don't normally forbid editors, even new ones, from linking to their personal sites, facebook pages, twitter pages and so on. As to the block, this looks like an account using a person's real world name, and you haven't left a block message for the user to know why you think their chosen username is a problem. Please help me to understand your decision process here. Thanks. Risker (talk) 02:15, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

The username was listed at UAA as a promotional username. Indeed, the user added a link to a website that matched identically the username. Such usernames are routinely soft blocked and that's what I did in this case. However, if the external link was to a personal website matching the user's real name (and the website is not something commercial or promotional), then such a block probably isn't necessary. It is hard to tell if that's the case here because the link, as you note, is currently not working. Looking a little closer at the username, I agree that you are probably right that it matches a real name such as "Vijay Regar", which didn't occur to me at the time of blocking. Accordingly, I have unblocked the user and left a note on his user talk page. Thanks for noticing the issue and letting me know. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:28, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks very much for getting back to me, and more importantly for reviewing the situation. I really appreciate it. Don't know if it will change the likelihood of Vijayregar turning into a good editor (I wouldn't bet the farm on it), but at least it leaves the door open. And thanks for the work you do at UAA, it's one of the areas I seldom tread so it's good to know someone open-minded is doing the mopping there. Risker (talk) 02:09, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Evofosfamide back to TH-302

Please can you move evofosfamide back to TH-302? The reason is that evofosfamide is currently only a proposed INN.[1] If accepted it will be recommended as an INN later by the WHO and published in the recommended names list (probably in 2015).--LamasUI (talk) 09:28, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

I didn't realize that evofosfamide isn't officially approved yet as an INN, but it appears to be an approved USAN (it is listed here). Since Wikipedia articles on drugs are preferably titled by official generic names, I think it should probably stay at evofosfamide. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:33, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Asked

Hi, what do you think about my contributions? Please answers, Thankyou.

And that Just need verification. that's part of the way Wikipedia works.

Look, it's very simple - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information. If there are no sources present, the information should not be in the article. Furthermore most of that content violates WP:NPOV because they are clearly a fan of the clubs (in Thai football). -- Tommy Syahputra (talk) 13:15, 31 October 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia content that is not supported by a reference should not be deleted solely because it is unreferenced. If the unreferenced content is dubious, disputed, or controversial, it is fine to remove it; but in many cases it is better to request a reference using the {{citation needed}} tag or to mark the article with {{refimprove}}. While some content that violates WP:NPOV can be removed, sometimes it is better to simply rephrase the content to remove the bias so that useful content is not lost. In all cases, where your actions are opposed by other editors, it is best to discuss with them potential changes to Wikipedia articles on the article talk pages. HPPlotter

Thanks Edgar181 for highlighting that my username violated t&c's - much appreciated and I've arranged to get this amended. Can you help me though? I'm having a spot of trouble understanding what was wrong with my HPPlotter page which you deleted - on this page I added several key links to my website containing useful info for people - reference info that I'd written myself to help Designjet owners - covering things like 'free tool to discover the natural upgrade path from your old designjet', 'what is a plotter', 'memory upgrade info' (if your printer memory can be upgraded and if so - how), 'free user manuals' etc... All designed to add value.

When I come to redoing this page under my new username I need to understand what you thought was wrong with it in the first place so I don't duplicate the issue. Would you mind taking a look at the links on this page and seeing what was wrong? Thank you :-) HPPlotter (talk) 02:16, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

User:HPPlotter was an unambiguous advertisement for hpplotter.co.uk consisting solely of promotional material and multiple links to the site's pages. Your user page should contain content about you that is related to your editing at Wikipedia, not an advertisement for a company or website. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:26, 6 November 2014 (UTC)

Faldaprevir stereo

Hi Ed! An editor recently changed the stereochemistry of Faldaprevir from (1R,2S) to (1S,2R) [changed back now], which disagrees with your structure. A quick web search produced quite contradictory results. ChemSpider agrees with you, PubChem is in two minds, ChemicalRegister disagrees with you, and Toxnet/ChemIdPlus agrees with you and ChemSpider. I'd say the more reliable sources are on your side, but I'd still like to ask how reliable your image sources are regarding stereochemistry. (I'd much prefer to rely on the many structures you have created, and haven't yet found any errors. Thanks, by the way.)

Only marginally related: Is there such a thing as a Z configuration on a C=N double bond? See Dabigatran; seems to be taken from PubChem. Cheers --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 20:26, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

It's not unusual to encounter these kinds of stereochemical inconsistancies in chemical databases. I don't recall which source I used to generate the image, but I mostly use ChemSpider because in my experience it is the most reliable free source (and they are very good about responding to user suggestions for corrections). Unfortunately, I don't currently have access to the original publications covering the discovery synthesis which would be the best source for the structure - the source from which all other data is eventually derived from. But looking at the list of INNs in this document, which presumably uses data directly from the submitting pharmaceutical company, the structure matches the image File:Faldaprevir.svg and has the IUPAC name "(1R,2S)-1-{[(2S,4R)-4-[{8-bromo-7-methoxy- 2-[2-(2-methylpropanamido)-1,3-thiazol-4-yl]quinolin-4-yl}oxy]- 1-[(2S)-2-{[(cyclopentyloxy)carbonyl]amino}- 3,3-dimethylbutanoyl]pyrrolidine-2-carboxamido}- 2-ethenylcyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid".
As for the R-C=N-R functional group, yes they can have E/Z configurations, but in the case of dabigatran there is tautomerism that can readily interconvert the two isomers so there is no need to specify E/Z. -- Ed (Edgar181) 00:47, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for checking! As usually, I forgot to check the INN lists. --ἀνυπόδητος (talk) 12:56, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

copyedits on Spiegelmer

Hello Edgar, I wonder why you deleted the important information that Spiegelmer is a trademark of NOXXON Pharma and not a generic term. Because it is a trademark it should be written with capital letter. Best, Chrilli (talk) 10:40, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

It simply seemed unnecessarily promotional to me. That appears to be your purpose here - to promote Noxxon and/or defend its trademarks - but Wikipedia is under no obligation to do so. What is the generic name for these types of chemical compounds? -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:36, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your fast reply. My purpose was not to promote Noxxon but to inform that Spiegelmer is a brand. If you look for other brands on wikipedia, there is always a note about the brandowner. The generic name for that compound would be a L-RNA-Aptamer. Best, Chrilli (talk) 13:18, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

Recent blocking of GLOP disruptor

I notice you have 24 hour blocked User:Sophie201. Do keep your eyeballs on this one. It is not likely to stop until Jonathan Gruber flap is finished. Our modern new Repub Party's right wing foaming branch has adopted many Stalinist and Lysenkoist tendencies, one of which is complete devotion to ideology. He/she/it likely actually believes this is fact. I am on general discussion blog with three rightwingers, and all are effectively clones with Sophie201. Gruber flap is striking me as some type of agitprop set up. I may be merely paranoid, but we may start seeing this type of disruptive editing more frequently now after recent Repub victory. Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Edgar181. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

I deleted the page titled Design forum international because it was a redirect to a page that didn't exist, Design Forum International (different capitalization). That rationale for deletion looks valid to me, but if you have questions about it, you can contact Peridon. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:49, 28 November 2014 (UTC)

Category:Veronica Mars images

Hi,
I'm BenLinus1214. When I was going to recreate the category "Veronica Mars images", I saw that you had previously deleted the category because it was empty. However, I would like to put new files into this category because I have recently begun rewriting the articles on Veronica Mars episodes to include images, a more detailed plot summary, more reliable sources, and production/reception sections. But because I am a relatively new user, I just wanted to contact you to make sure that there's no problem with recreating the category. Thanks! :) BenLinus1214 (talk) 21:16, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

The deletion of the empty category was just a bit of housekeeping. I have no objection to it being created again if it's going to be used. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:52, 3 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! :) BenLinus1214 (talk) 23:03, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Blocking Totallystraight69

Because I had started the talk page for this editor it was on my watchlist and I saw you had blocked Totallystraight69 on the grounds that he was (Clearly not here to contribute to the encyclopedia). Did you look at the only other contribution of the individual concerned? I think not or you would have undone his other edit! Cwmhiraeth (talk) 14:30, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting the vandalism that I missed. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 15:52, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
Well, I missed it too, first time round. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:05, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Deserves a talk page block. MadGuy7023 (talk) 16:02, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Looks like they have stopped for awhile now, but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 00:08, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Sounds like a talk page block for this user. MadGuy7023 (talk) 18:22, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Yep. I revoked talk page access. Thanks for letting me know. -- Ed (Edgar181) 19:00, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

PCOANs

Hello Edgar, thank you for illustrating the pages that I started for Fostemsavir and BIT225, both are much appreciated. Would you do me the favor of creating a similar page for phosphonated carbocyclic 2'-oxa-3'aza nucleosides (PCOANs), please? You'll see that I have reference those compounds on the page for HTLV, as they are have potential in the furtherance of treatment. Thank you in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TonyDewitt (talkcontribs) 20:16, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

I may not be able to get to it right away, but I'll take a look soon. -- Ed (Edgar181) 11:44, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Crboyer2.0

I kind of suspect they are impersonating me. The user's first edit was to send a Wikilove Message to User talk:Thebeastthepro, a user who I warned for vandalism. The latter account blanked the second warning they received. That raises the suspicion the Crboyer2.0 account is up to something. I warned them about the user name. How else do I deal with this user?Crboyer (talk) 21:32, 14 December 2014 (UTC)

Crboyer: I undid your revert on Thebeastthepro's talk page, because a user is allowed to remove warnings from their own talk page. I have blocked Crboyer2.0 and left a note on the talk page about the (IMO) obvious attempt to impersonate. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  01:44, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Crboyer, I didn't realize the connection with the user's first edit. That definitely raises suspicion. I see that the admin Salvidrim! has blocked the user now, which looks like the right thing to do. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:05, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Jesmion

Hi, please help, if somebody is blocked how would the person login to place unblock so that the admin would know it's the person, hence he couldn't login? 41.206.11.11 (talk) 05:40, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

A registered user that is blocked from editing is still able to login to their account and in most cases they are still able to edit their own user talk page. -- Ed (Edgar181) 12:21, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Article integrated fluorometer

Dear Edgar,

I would like to comment the wikipedia article “integrated fluorometer”. The term integrated fluorometer is created by the company(ADC) for an instrument combination of gas exchange analysis instrument and chlorophyll fluorescence as it is used commonly in plant science. Such system combinations are provided by other companies e.g. Licor, Walz, PP-Systems but are not called integrated fluorometer in the literature/scientific publications. This term can be legitimated as integrated chlorophyll fluorometer by the fact that the chloropyhll fluorometer is mechanically attached to the gas exchange system and the analysis allows the estimation of the mesophyll conductance by modelling from parameters analyzed by gas exchange and chlorophyll fluorometry. But the term integrated fluorometer is highly misleading as fluorometry is widely used in science. There are various kinds of fluorometers –and many of them are integrated into other analysis systems. This article is primarily a promotional article for their gas exchange/chlorophyll fluorometer system.Felim 5 (talk) 21:27, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

There are several related articles that have this issue of having been heavily edited by users with a connection to ADC BioScientific (and therefore have a potential conflict of interest). It appears to me to be paid advocacy. The articles include ADC Bioscientific, integrated fluorometer, Plant tissue test, Chlorophyll fluorescence, Plant stress measurement, and probably others. I brought this up at the Conflict of Interest Noticeboard awhile ago: Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard/Archive_73#ADC_Bioscientific. And searching the archives I see that it was brought up before that: Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard/Archive_54#ADC_Bioscientific. No improvement seems to have resulted from those discussions. I'm not familiar with the topic myself and probably couldn't do a very good job of cleaning these articles up myself, but if you are willing to give it a try I'll back you up however I can. -- Ed (Edgar181) 22:31, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
I just joint wikipedia - i requested the deletion on the Talk page ... Is there something else I need to do? Felim 5 (talk) 12:15, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Unfortunately deleting an article isn't that simple. There is a process, outlined at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, but it is unlikely that the article will be deleted because it is a reasonable encyclopedia subject. The promotional nature of the article will more likely need to be fixed through editing or by being rewritten. Even if you are a newly registered user here, you are free to edit and improve the article if would like to. -- Ed (Edgar181) 13:08, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for semi protecting those articles and thank you for removing that particularly vile personal attack. Helpsome (talk) 16:02, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

I'm glad to help. If you would like that edit to your talk page hidden (Wikipedia:Revision deletion) please let me know and I'll do it. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:04, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
If it wouldn't be too much trouble. I don't think I want something like that in the history. Helpsome (talk) 16:05, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Done. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:06, 18 December 2014 (UTC)
Thank you! And you now have something you might want to remove from your own history. I reverted it a minute ago. Helpsome (talk) 16:07, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

There is a new one. This threat is bigger. Helpsome (talk) 16:15, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

I agree, but I think it would help calm him down a bit if it were another editor fixing those edits. I'll keep an eye on his talk page for awhile. -- Ed (Edgar181) 21:01, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

13-Methyltetradecanoic acid

Edgar181,

Thank you for updating and adding necessary information to the article on 13-Methyltetradecanoic acid. Could you instruct me on how to add that "info box" you provided on the right of the page? Also, the underlined title and subtitles look great. I would like to learn how to do that.

ConteRaff

At what point will the block on User:ConteRaff become permanent? The user has been warned repeatedly, and has never made a constructive edit. Swpbtalk 14:04, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

I understand your concern. Maybe I'm being too lenient (wouldn't be the first time), but this comes across as clueless newbie more than anything else to me. I'll keep a watch on him and then next sign of promotion will be an indefinite block. Regards, -- Ed (Edgar181) 14:07, 29 December 2014 (UTC)
