Talk Archive 1: February 2007[edit]

Bienvenido Boricua, welcome to Wikipedia. Here's some tips:

Other useful pages are: how to edit, how to write a great article, naming conventions, manual of style and the Wikipedia policies.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian De lo buenos quedan poco! Tony the Marine 17:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Olga Nolla[edit]

I am here to guide you and help you in any way that I can. Please do not hesitate to ask me for any help. I noticed your additions to Rosario's article and they are great. If I were you, I won't worry too much about placing Olga Nolla for faetured article yet. Peer review is very strict and they'll tell you it is too short or that it needs lots of inline references and such. Here is an example of a featured article that I wrote so that you will get an idea: Military history of Puerto Rico.

Anyway, you will run into some rude people along the way, just keep your "cool" (No dejes que te jodan). Try not to get into any heated arguments and if someone reverts your edits try to avoid a revert war because you may be blocked from editing if you revert something three times in the same article. Ask for help.

If you want to upload an image, the most important thing to check is that the image is of free domain and that it does not violate any copyright laws. The first step would be to upload the image to your documents, then go to this link: [[Wikipedia:Images for upload]] and follow the instructions on the page. Tony the Marine 18:46, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here is an example:

If you wrote this:

Tony the Marine was a very good-looking guy.<ref>[http://www.cienciapr.org/viewprofile.php?username=TonytheMarine Ciencias Puerto Rico]</ref>

==Notes==

<references/>

It would come out like this:

Tony the Marine was a very good-looking guy.[1]

Invitation[edit]

Charleen, I invite you to add your name here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico/Notability Criteria and to add the List of notable Puerto Ricans to your watchlist. You can help us by making sure that nobody's name is added to the "Authors, playwrights and poets" section unless they meet the criteria established. We want this list to be very exclusive. Que dices? Tony the Marine 05:39, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

Check it out and see if I did what you wanted. When you post an image you do this: [[Image:Ccnd.GIF|right|300px|thumb|Colegio Católico Notre Dame]]. In the section the section "|right|" you write in where in the page you want it located ex. "left","center" or "right". The section "|px|" is for the size of the image and if you want to write something at the bottom of the image add something like this "|thumb|Colegio Católico Notre Dame". Si, I am a Boricua de pura sepa. Tony the Marine 06:27, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I took a look at the image that you mentioned. They both seem fine. What I noticed though, is that the article is too short, but then again it is labeled as a "stub". Anyway, keep up the good work you're doing a fantastic job. Tony the Marine 21:24, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I took a second look and I believed that I fixed the problem. What I did was elimate the <br> between both images and then moved one of the images further down, thereby eliminating some empty space. Go to the page and take a look. Tony the Marine 23:29, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chat[edit]

Would you like me to create a "WORKSHOP" for you, where you can create articles and experiment without being disturbed? Tony the Marine 22:28, 13 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'll show you my "Workshop". This is where I created the article about "Puerto Ricans recipients of the Medal of Honor" without any interruptions. After I finished my article, I just copied it and pasted it on an "official" article page, which now looks like this: Puerto Rican recipients of the Medal of Honor. Take a look at my "Workshop" here: Tony's Workshop. Tony the Marine 01:20, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Friendly Chat[edit]

I've noticed all of the changes that you made in your User page (I normally keep my eyes on good people like you) and I like them. Also, your help and contributions on the "List of notable Puerto Ricans" has been wonderful. The idea of keeping the list the list from becoming a wild circus, is my goal and with your help we can accomplish this. You can consider me your "padrino" here and I'll be there for you in what ever way that I can. Tony the Marine 18:20, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Persian cinema[edit]

Since December 2005 I am working on Iranian cinema. You see that the article came a long path. [1]. I was improving it slowly. However the article is not in a good status yet. I want to bring the article to GA status. As you have a good command of English language, you are in principle able to help me improving this article faster. It would be great if you could contribute to this article and help me in copyeditting. There are many useful articles here. Any helps will be very much appreciated. Thanks. Sangak 20:39, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Thanks for your kind helps. Take care. Sangak 21:07, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Charleenmerced! I am not an expert either. What I wrote was simply based on the sources (citations). There is not much explanation in them either. I guess there were some theatre like shows and also some graphic works at those times.

I also added a link to Bas-relief. Sangak 17:53, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also see the following:

Iranian new wave films are full of poetry and painterly images. There is a line back from modern Iranian cinema to the ancient oral Persian storytellers and poets, via the poems of Omar Khayyam.[2]

Sangak 17:58, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think we need to rewrite those parts that are word for word. Although getting permission is very simple and most Iranians I have contacted up to now granted me the permission (as this promote their work) and they are happy as long as I cited them. Sangak 19:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK I write him an email now. Sangak 19:10, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just sent the request and I also asked him to explain the statement about the pigs! Sangak 19:22, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please feel free to neutralize the article. I tried to remove praises and words like "masters" and "legendary". Still the tone might be pov. Sangak 20:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I asked for permission for two articles, one by Shahin Parhami and the other one by Darius Kadivar (I used his article for Influence of Iranians on French New Wave). The first one has not replied yet. Kadivar has just replied me:

Yes please go ahead but please refer to my name in the publication.

I will be updating the article in a future publication I hope for payvand with new additions for instance Darius Khondji who is also half French.

I am very happy that you came across my article.

warm Regards and stay in touch.

I can forward you the email if you wish. Sangak 09:51, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Charleenmerced! in responce to your comment about Iranian cinema: Iranian cinema was praised in international film festivals during 1990s more than any other country. And there are many many articles where Iranian cinema is considered the finest national cinema of the last decade (1990s). Iranian cinema got numerous award in Berlin Film Festival, Cannes, Venice, .... during this decade. If you want to get a feeling about Iranian cinema read the article on Abbas Kiarostami. You are not the only film fan who never heard anything about Iranian cinema. Even Sean Penn who visited Iran afew months ago did not know anything. But festival goers and most film students know Iranian cinema pretty well. Sangak 18:26, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Just two quoes about Kiarostami:

Sangak 18:31, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agree with you. Sangak 19:24, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

I'd be happy to adopt you! Anytime you'd like to left justify something, you can use <div style="float:right"> and then </div>. So this is what you'd want to type:

<div style="float:right">
 USERBOXES
 <nowiki></div>

If you'd like to have the table including your project userboxes on the left side of your page just under the flag, edit your userpage and paste the aforementioned code above and below the table, then copy everything and paste it just above ==About me==. If you experience any problems with this, just let me know, or I can do it for you if you'd like.

Also, regarding your signature: please be aware that WP:SIG disallows editors from including images in their signatures-- while Image:SoleteRayosÑajo.gif‎ is a nice animation, it can slow down the loading of pages, can be distracting, and it would be best if you'd remove it. Additionally, while ediitng your signature, could you fix the link to your talk page? It currently links to Usertalk:Charlennmerced (note the missing space). Muchos gracias. Hasta luego, Dar-Ape 21:21, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Different flavours of English[edit]

In New Zealand English, -ise endings are generally preferred to -ize endings. On article pages I'm happy to stick with whatever type of English is in progress, but I think it's OK to use my native spelling on talk pages :) Of course, given that post was on something fairly pedantic, I should expect that. --Limegreen 01:57, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Language differences are certainly interesting. In the past I've done a little social psychology stuff looking at differences between US and NZ useage of words, and a bit on accents. And on the flavor v. flavour thing, the ones I find weirdest are aluminium versus aluminum (on, and when honour was changed thus honour in the US, that it didn't become honour). --Limegreen 20:01, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Olga nolla.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Olga nolla.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:07, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wineries list in Carmenere[edit]

Hey Charleen! I notice that you added a list of wineries that make Carmenere wine. I didn't delete them but I was wondering if you could reconsider their inclusion per the essay Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a wine guide. A list, in general, is hard to maintain and will be a target for anon editors wanting to include their favorite winery (even if it is not notable). If a particular winery has made some notable and unique contribution to the production of Carmenere wine, they certainly merit inclusion but that would ideally be incorporated into a paragraph of text rather then a list. I know the best intention is to introduce others to this new world of wine and I whole heartedly encourage you to share your thoughts on your favorite Carmenere wines on the talk page of our Wine Improvement Drive. Thank you, though, for your enthusiasm and work on this grape article. I think at the end of the Wine Improvement Drive we will definitely be able to submit it for GA. :) AgneCheese/Wine 23:17, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WOW!!! After not visiting the Carmenère article for a while, I marvel at how it has been enhanced! Gee, I'm awed. Excellent work; you and Agne27 deserve praise and my full appreciation. OK, I'll start work at getting the labels you have asked. But I must first unglue them from new bottles, prior to scanning them. Please give me some time. Or do you prefer photographs of the bottles? I can send either of them to you, if you'd be so kind as to supply an e-mail address. Mine is aka_ef@yahoo.com. Regards, --AVM 01:48, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed your answers are correct! You win Round One. Round Two is coming soon. If you want, you can use {{User:Goyston/WQwinner}} on your user page. It is a mildly attractive userbox. Hooray! Goyston talk, contribs, play 23:46, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You've placed {{editprotected}} on User talk:Chaleenmerced/monobook.css, without any indication as to why. In what way do you want your monobook.css edited, or were you trying to do something else? --ais523 18:17, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I was wondering about that, too. ;) Removing the request, for now (CAT:PER is backlogged a bit), pending some more information. If you're having trouble, feel free to ask any questions at the help desk. One thing I noticed, you may want to be editing User:Charleenmerced/monobook.js (the R was missing, before). – Luna Santin (talk) 19:38, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you want persondata to be visible to your own view, go to Special:Mypage/monobook.css and enter
table.persondata {display:table;}
(for most browsers) or
table.persondata {display:block;}
(if you use Internet Explorer) as the only thing on that page. Then bypass your cache and you should be able to see persondata. I hope that helps! --ais523 10:37, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Chilenian wine growers[edit]

Hi Charleenmerced, will you write also about Vina los Vascos, Veramonte and Vinedos Errázuriz Ovalle ?? --Symposiarch 10:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Since I can't be sure this is a static IP and they have only vandalised on three days out of a month, I can't really block them. The policy is "The vandal is active now, has received a proper set of warnings, and has vandalized after a recent last warning, except in unusual circumstances." Sorry.
