PR Request

Hello, it's nice to meet you. I recently became aware of you at the Loev FAC, where you provided a thorough review of the article. Should you have the time and inclination, I would really appreciate some comments at this PR of Lady Gaga which I would like to submit for FA consideration in the not-too distant future. No problem if you don't have time ort he subject isn't of interest to you. Cheers. – FrB.TG (talk) 20:21, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

@FrB.TG: Hi FrB.TG, I would be happy to help. I will always love the Gaga! It looks like a big article, so I'll try to get you comments ASAP, but it may take me a few days. ceranthor 22:11, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
@FrB.TG: I hope you are finding my comments somewhat helpful. Do you think you could give me some feedback on Barry Voight? ceranthor 21:27, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
I am finding your comments extremely helpful, which I'll get to tomorrow. This is the type of the criticism I was looking for for the article. I know nothing about geology whatsoever, but I'll see; seems like an interesting article from a glance. – FrB.TG (talk) 21:46, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2017 September newsletter

Round 4 of the WikiCup has ended and we move forward into the final round. In round 4, a total of 12 FAs, 3 FLs, 44 GAs, 3 FLs, 79 DYKs, 1 ITN and 42 GARs was achieved, with no FPs or FTs this time. Congratulations to Peacemaker67 on the Royal Yugoslav Navy Good Topic of 36 items, and the 12 featured articles achieved by Cas Liber (5), Vanamonde93 (3), Peacemaker67 (2), Adityavagarwal (1) and 12george1 (1). With a FA scoring 200 points, and bonus points available on top of this, FAs are likely to feature heavily in the final round. Meanwhile Yellow Evan, a typhoon specialist, was contributing 12 DYKs and 10 GAs, while Adityavagarwal and Freikorp topped the GAR list with 8 reviews each. As we enter the final round, we are down to eight contestants, and we would like to thank those of you who have been eliminated for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. The lowest score needed to reach round 5 was 305, and I think we can expect a highly competitive final round.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck, and let the best man (or woman) win! Hello!

I see you've been back a few months, but I haven't seen your name around for a long time so it brought a smile to face to see your signature as I was scrolling through FAC. It reminded me of the time that I was just finding my feet on Wikipedia. Just wanted to say hi, that's all! :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:44, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell: I'm not heavily active, but thanks for the welcome back! Hope all's well! ceranthor 15:37, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Gaga

Hi, Ceranthor. Thanks for all of your help with her article and at the PR. I, IndianBio and SNUGGUMS would like to take this to FAC soon. Since you have become more than a reviewer of the article, I would like to know your opinion of where the article stands prose-wise. Many thanks. FrB.TG (talk) 12:22, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi @FrB.TG: I read through the article and was pretty happy with how it looked. I'll look over it tonight and give you a definitive answer, but I think it's more or less there. ceranthor 14:51, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
@FrB.TG: a few more comments, and then I think it's good to go:
  • "New York shows without success," - do the sources clarify what NY shows means?
Here's what the book says, "At age sixteen Stefani had begun to sing and play in front of live audiences in her hometown. She also attended auditions for parts in the city, though with little success."
  • "Its second single "Judas" also reached the top ten in several major musical markets" - including which ones?
  • "Her other endeavors included" - there's nothing wrong with this start to the sentence, but I think it should be a separate paragraph perhaps. I just don't think it follows logically from the preceding sentence/paragraph topic
  • "Her engagement to Taylor Kinney ended in July 2016.[159]" - not sure if this is available info, but it might help to clarify why
If I recall correctly, she posted on Instagram implying that they were not together anymore, but did not specify the reason/s.
  • "Her performances are described" - I like "have been described" better, but this is nitpicky
  • "before she was replaced by her assistant Richard Jackson.[225]" - in what year?

Otherwise, I think this is ready. :) ceranthor 19:27, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you, I have addressed these as well except the ones under which I have left replies. Look forward to submitting this for FAC soon. :) FrB.TG (talk) 16:30, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
No problem! Make sure to give me a ping when you end up submitting it, so I can pledge my support based on my copyediting! ceranthor 16:32, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi TPSers,

I'm hoping to take Three Sisters (Oregon) to FAC once it's gotten a copyedit and a few readovers by peers to give me fresh eyes to improve it. I would appreciate any and all feedback if anyone has the time to give it a looksie. Best, ceranthor 17:01, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018

So the 2017 WikiCup has come to an end. Congratulations to the winner, to the other finalists and to all those who took part. 177 contestants signed up, more than usual, but not all of them submitted entries in the first round. Were editors attracted by the cash prizes offered for the first time this year, or were these irrelevant? Do the rules and scoring need changing for the 2018 WikiCup? Hi Ceranthor. Would you be willing to copy edit Margaret (singer) which was promoted to GA at the beginning of this year. I just want to make sure that its quality is maintained. I do understand that you're busy so take as long as you need of course. Best wishes. ArturSik (talk) 14:56, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

@ArturSik: Are you trying to get it to FA? Or is it just general copy editing you want? ceranthor 20:55, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
I would say general for now. There's quite a lot of work to do before I even start considering nominating it for FA. However, since it got promoted to good article status, a lot of changes have been made there and I just want to make sure that it is still a deserving Good article. I'm assuming you're only focusing on FACs hence the question. However, there's no hurry and if you only decide to take it on you can CE it whenever suits you, there's absolutely no rush. ArturSik (talk) 21:04, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
I'm fine with that. I'm working on one FAC right now, and trying to finish a good topic by April or May, but I'm not incredibly overwhelmed with work right now. So it's definitely something I can try to help with. ceranthor 21:33, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
That's great. Thank you so much. Looking forward to it :) ArturSik (talk) 21:59, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
@ArturSik: Finally got around to this. I made some changes throughout. Overall, it looks like it's already in great shape. My one note would be the use of the phrase "number X in the country", which got confusing as I didn't know which chart you were referencing. ceranthor 16:27, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you so much. Looks like there wasn't much to fix which I am pleased about. Do you suggest I should replace "country" with the actual name of the country? and should I do that in all instances or only selected? ...because I was only using that option to avoid repetition, for example "becoming an immediate commercial success in Poland. It received an award as the third-best selling digital single of 2013 in the country by a Polish artist" where it seems pretty obvious that "the country" is Poland. ArturSik (talk) 16:58, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
@ArturSik: No, more what I mean is something like this: "It was preceded by the single "What You Do" released in May, which reached number fourteen in Margaret's native country.[110]" Number fourteen on which chart? ceranthor 17:06, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Oh, okay. I see. I'll change that then:) Thanks ArturSik (talk) 17:08, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
No problem. Give me a ping when you're thinking about taking it to FAC! ceranthor 17:09, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Do you think it stands a chance of becoming a FA? My only worry are references. ArturSik (talk) 01:02, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
@ArturSik: I think it needs a bit more work first. I'd recommend starting a peer review, gathering feedback from some people who have written FA's before (particularly on music content), and then thinking about FAC. FrB.TG and Aoba47 both strike me as people who would likely be happy to give you comments. ceranthor 03:40, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
  • I would be more than happy to provide comments on this. Aoba47 (talk) 03:41, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
So would I. I was involved with the article last year. @ArturSik: Just let me know when you open a peer review. FrB.TG (talk) 12:41, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
I can provide some more feedback at the PR. Meanwhile, if any of you have some free time, I'd appreciate any and all feedback for Harry R. Truman. ceranthor 03:47, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Miscellaneous

  • Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
  • The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). Three Sisters (Oregon) scheduled for TFA

If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 6, 2018, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1100 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

Possibility of providing your input on a Peer Review for Regine Velasquez's entry

Hi Ceranthor,

I'm writing to ask whether you would consider having a look at the article. I'm aware that you've been involved with PRs. I've given it a major rewrite and complete overhaul. I began working on the article late October when it looked like this and somehow ended up rewriting the whole thing and aiming for potentially FA. This isn't a process I've been through before, but I have been reading the reviews here in preparation, and am familiar with FAC demands. I would very much appreciate a fresh set of eyes and happily address any concerns you may have.

Thanks! Pseud 14 (talk) 08:56, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

Are you willing to provide copies of my deleted articles?

Hello Ceranthor, very nice to meet you. Well my situation is quite messy and odd. Basically, I've been struggling to write articles using one account, so I created new multiple ones to do it instead. The administrators then accused me of creating sock puppets and webhost abuse (the latter is absolutely nonsense, if you care you can do further reading here and here), so they deleted all of my drafts from all of these accounts and I really need them back. I’ve spent more than a year writing them.

In October last year I've asked a member to help me with this situation, but he couldn't do it because he didn't have the time. So I'm asking you for help now, will you help me?

Thank you for reading. Beyoncetan (talk) 08:02, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Beyoncetan, I'll admit I'm a bit confused by the entire situation. Can you specify which deleted pages you want copies of for me? Thanks, ceranthor 15:46, 9 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for replying. Well here they are, and it's quite a long list:

And can you please possibly find me a draft from my Beyoncetan user that was about the song "10 Minutes" by Korean singer Lee Hyori? That page is really important to me.

If you don't have the time to do all of these pages, I totally understand it. I just want to make sure that you're okay with it first. Thank you, Ceranthor. Beyoncetan (talk) 18:20, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

@Beyoncetan: I have provided the final version of each of them at User:Ceranthor/deleted. Please move them to your own userspace ASAP so that I can delete this page accordingly. Thanks. ceranthor 21:00, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

The file File:Meldshal42.PNG has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused personal file, no foreseeable encyclopedic use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. I'd really appreciate your thoughts

First I found your offer very kind, thank you. My home wiki is Commons and even though I had been using the en:wp for a decade I never started contributing until last year. Prior to starting this article my contributions here were adding photography and a bit of article improvement so I am still learning the best ways to write and format articles. I'm trying to expand the article but finding neutral sources difficult. I also agree with Eric Corbett that the lead should be rewritten but I don't want to make it overly lengthy. Redoing the bare urls citations I'm also unsure about simply because I don't want to break them but I'll continue to press on and learn. So when you get a spare moment could you take a cursory look at Mount Carmel East and give my your opinion? Thank you in advance -- Sixflashphoto (talk) 12:56, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

@Sixflashphoto: I agree with Eric's comments. The refs particularly stick out to me, and I have a general sense that the article doesn't fully cover everything it could about the hospital. I'll be sure to provide more specific comments when I can. ceranthor 15:16, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Hi @Sixflashphoto: I'll do my best to provide you with more concrete feedback ASAP! Sorry for being slow to get back to you. ceranthor 19:17, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
I just appreciate all of the help I've been receiving. When you get some spare time would be fine. I'm really in no rush. I did make some substantial changes trying to put into practice the help I have already received. I also put it up for Peer Review but I would appreciate any and all help regardless of the forum it comes in. It is extremely nice that you still have an interest in helping. Thank you! -- Sixflashphoto (talk) 22:44, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
Sixflashphoto, I posted some comments to the article's talk page. ceranthor 20:07, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

That's nice of Casliber, but seems you have a pretty good handle on such articles. However, if asked I will assist as needed and will comment at FAC if it pops up there. Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC has closed with a consensus that candidates at WP:RFA must disclose whether they have ever edited for pay and that administrators may never use administrative tools as part of any paid editing activity, except when they are acting as a Wikipedian-in-Residence or when the payment is made by the Wikimedia Foundation or an affiliate of the WMF.
  • Editors responding to threats of harm can now contact the Wikimedia Foundation's emergency address by using Special:EmailUser/Emergency. If you don't have email enabled on Wikipedia, directly contacting the emergency address using your own email client remains an option.

Technical news

FAC urgents

I've noticed that you have very kindly been taking care of the FAC urgent list. That's always the part I forget to update when I go through the FAC list. I just wanted to say thank you. My rule of thumb for adding things to the list is anything that is over a month old and still is on the list. That usually catches anything needing extra eyes. If you wanted to add any that reach that point, I would have no objection and it would be really helpful. Sarastro (talk) 14:20, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

I'd be happy to take care of it. I can try to update it more regularly, since it doesn't take more than five-ten minutes to sort through the listed noms. ceranthor 21:38, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

Administrator changes

removed AngelOfSadnessBhadaniChris 73CorenFridayMidomMike V
† Lourdes has requested that her admin rights be temporarily removed, pending her return from travel.

Guideline and policy news

  • The autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) is scheduled to end on 14 March 2018. The results of the research collected can be read on Meta Wiki.
  • Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
  • A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
  • A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.

Technical news

  • CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.
  • The edit filter has a new feature contains_all that edit filter managers may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string.

WikiCup 2018 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.

Our top scorers in round 1 were:

  • United States Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
  • Germany FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
  • India Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
  • United States Ceranthor, India Numerounovedant, Minnesota Carbrera, Netherlands Farang Rak Tham and Romania Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! I've written one or two comments further; they should be pass ready after all. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:58, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
Jo-Jo Eumerus, it certainly seems comprehensive. I think the prose could use a little more fine-tuning before FAC, which I'd be happy to help with if you want. I also think I remember that capitalized references have been an issue for me before at volcano FACs, so I might suggest converting that capitalized source to be consistent with the other sources used. ceranthor 15:06, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

This is to let you know that the 1867 Manhattan, Kansas earthquake article has been scheduled as today's featured article for April 24, 2018. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/April 24, 2018, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1100 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

Feel free to change the thumb image if you wish. In the article, does the infobox need tweaking (just going by the auto-comment) Thanks Jimfbleak - talk to me? 11:15, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Fabulous. Thanks, Jim! ceranthor 15:46, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Hey there, I hope you doin well. I was wondering if you could take a look at the article and let me know if you have any comments at the talk page? I would like to take it to FAC at a later point maybe. Also, if you could weigh in on the infobox that'd be great help. Let me know, thanks either way. VedantTalk 10:44, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Sure, I'll get to it asap. ceranthor 16:56, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
Hey, Numerounovedant, just posted some comments for the lead and suggested a peer review on the talk page. I would be happy to provide more detailed feedback at a PR. ceranthor 16:50, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

Hey, Ceranthor. I've opened a peer review, let me know if you're still willing to comment. Thanks either way. VedantTalk 17:22, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

@Numerounovedant: Happy to! I'm a bit swamped this week, but I'll do my best to get to it before this weekend. ceranthor 17:34, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
