Archiving CHU

A few pointers on archiving CHU:

1. {{done}} and {{not done}} requests belong in different archives
2. VoABot does the archiving
3. VoABot always archives {{done}} requests fine so you shouldn't need to archive those
4. VoABot sometimes forgets to remove the {{not done}} requests from WP:CHU when it archives them (which is when I usually step in and do it)

Not a problem at all - just thought I'd point out how the system is meant to work. The Bot has managed to make much more of a mess than that - I'm still prettending that Wikipedia:Changing username/Unfulfilled/2007/March isn't the mess that is (400 requests achived when I guess there should be only 50)... I found this discussion and felt I should comment. I agree with you, Qst, that your closure was a fair snowclose and that that RfA would not have resulted in the user being given the tools. However, the request was unique, at the least. And while the discussion most likely would not have become controversial, it could have been useful, if only to the user. So, while I agree that snowclosing it was appropriate, I encourage you in the future to give all snowcloses careful consideration. I also encourage you to remember that this user would at least seem to be a newbie, and as such biting them would not be fitting. SorryGuy 01:12, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

I wouldn't say I was biting them at all, it is standard procedure for them to be closed early per WP:SNOW where appropriate. It has been moved to a new MediaWiki server (with great thanks to Anthony), however new site requires login to view pages, but I will contact AGK as soon as possible to fix this; I will then move the help guides we currently have to the new Wiki. After discussion about this with AGK, I have desysopped all users there, leaving only myself — I will remove my rights there and block all accounts when the articles have been moved. These are precautionary measures I'm taking in order to prevent hackers/vandals running riot there when no one is around... Qst 15:42, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

HelpWiki "Chaos"

First off, let me give my viewpoint. I had no prior knowledge that you and Maxim were engaged in some form of a wheel war, something ironically I only learnt the other day, and I acted in good faith. I was too quick to accept your deletions and maybe even Maxim's restorations (and block on you). I became entangled in a net which I had aimlessly swam into, and for that I apologise. I would also like to say sorry for my recent (at least what I think) hassling you, first CHU on here a few weeks ago, then WikiHelp. No! You haven't been hassling me at all, you jus made a mistake — me and Maxim should have both stepped back, it was just a moment of annoyance at when he ignored my request not to import articles. Officially, it was a wheel war, but I do believe I only deleted 2 articles which had been unnecessarily imported, so it was not something as serious as a BLP protection issues. I hope we can all put it behind us, were were both in the wrong (Me and Maxim), I think you justs confused by the situation, which is understandable, given the circumstances. My speedy deletes

Thanks for the notice about my tags for speedy deletes. The text for [[Doris Greenspun}} is taken 100% from another source, so I have tagged it for speedy deletion again. I'll see about Martín Lousteau later.

FYI, A7 specifically refers to "does not indicate why its subject is important or significant". I do not see any of that in Greenspun's article, which is why I tagged it. Being director of something, participation in international projects, being a PhD candidate, being an advocate of something, publishing numerous books and giving numerous talks simply do not add up. There are thousands of non-notable people in public office. Thousands of people work giving speeches. That doesn't make them notable. The speedy deletion process does not depend on being non-notable; it depends on an explicit assertion of notability. I don't see it in either of the two articles you mentioned. The latter article was kept, as it is not a A7 topic. The first article mentioned was deleted, but not because of the tag you placed on it - it was deleted as a copyright violation. family guy episode list comment

So far all of your edits to the main episode list seem fine, except the one that removed the known plot points. no, I'm basing it off List of The Simpsons episodes (which is a featured list, which I'm trying to do to this one), its unencyclopedic, and makes the article look bad, as its just facts which have been plonked there, if anything, it should be converted into paragraphs. Actually, I thought it was still being discussed about removing the summaries....I feel they should still be included as short recaps, and the longer versions can be found on the individual episode pages. There is no reason for them to be removed as the episode list wasn't that long. Not everything has to be discussed on the talk page, although it is preferred for major changes, however I wouldn't consider this to be a major change. You can still make individual season pages while keeping the short summaries on the main page, and just include extended info such as guest stars, director, etc on the actual season page. I think you should just keep it the way it was, unless further discussion dictates otherwise. I've put a lot of time into this page over the past few years, and am a pretty active user of wikipedia and dont see any real reason for this change. Thank you, I appreciate that — however I am trying to bring Wikipedia's coverage of Family Guy to the next level (i.e. GA or FA status), I think we should both work togehter on this, as we both want the same thing. The list has much more of a chance of becoming featured without the episode descriptions, as it makes it look much tidier without them. To add to this, I was intending on creating articles about individual seasons (like The Simpsons has), which will contain brief episode synopsis to the episode. For an example, see this. Ok, maybe we should do what lost does. If you are unaware they have individual pages, but somehow have the summaries and stuff setup to where it is linked over to the main episode page. So if you change something to the Season 3 page for example, then it would be reflected on the main episode list as well. Also, we can start building the season pages now, but maybe should seriously consider doing it the way lost has it setup. No, unfortunately, its does not. If you take a look at Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria, that gives you a detailed guide to fair use policy and fair use rationales on Wikipedia. Re:Page moves

Actually, pages can be moved automatically upon a rename, but we have the option to uncheck a box and disable the automatic move. Normally, I use the automatic move when renaming users with few edits and clearly inexperienced. When users who have been around for a while ask for a rename, I normally leave it up to them to move their own pages. That is part of the reason why I haven't changed my default rename notification. Hi. Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been offline for a few days. Back when the feature of automatic page move was introduced for the Raname tool, Essjay and I talked about it and concluded that, if a user with apparent experience was requesting a rename, we would only move their pages automatically if they included a request for as much in the reason line of the rename template. From a practical point of view, the impact of this is quite small, since the majority of the requests comes from newbies or accounts that haven't had much experience editing. I do need to customize my rename message to accomodate a note about the pages being moved... Redux (talk) 17:31, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Family Guy Trivia Sections

I see you are doing a lot of hard work on the FG episode pages so I'm not going to revert you. Quoted directly from the FG project page as something to do with the project is this:

"Prune Cultural references sections, removing non-notable examples of things no one needs explained."

I have been going through the pages and trying to do just that. For one, many of these pages have ballooned into all inclusive "guides" as opposed to encyclopedic entries. Deciding that everytime a song, celebrity, show, product, etc. should be included in the Cultural references section means an excessive amount of info. For example, a 5 second obvious parody of say "Men in Black" is not really notable to the episode, nor does it need explanation. I'm not sure that (just for one example) this being mentioned in a DVD commentary really warrants inclusion.

We might disagree on this, but I think the episode pages should have a detailed plot, explanations of notable connections to the show in general, and some explanation of some of the major cultural reference items in the show. This, I would think, does not mean including, in some cases, 25 or so cultural reference items, most of them being fairly obvious. Gwynand (talk) 16:34, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Prick Up Your Ears (Family Guy)

Hey, I'm the guy that kept modifying the Prick Up Your Ears (Family Guy) episode about the Starscream reference (I'm not usually signed in). What kind of reference do you think is needed? I think that footage from the shows speaks for itself.

Well, we should really use the DVD commentary which is reliable, in order to reference cultural references. As the article is at good article status, it should not have unreferenced statements in or goof sections. Sorry to be a bother but the following sentence is the sort of thing I mean when I ask for copy-editing: "Slacking on his duties, Meg instructed to fire Peter by her boss, however she chooses her family over her job. Meanwhile, Brian, intent on destroying the superstore, retrieves the tank and drives it through the entire shop with Stewie's aid, returning outside to fire ammunition at it, completely destroying it and injuring Meg's former boss, as a result, Quahog gets its electricity supply back." run-ons like that really have no place in an encyclopedia. Also there is some "there/their" confusion and generally clunky usage, it seems almost as if this was translated from a language other than English. Username change

Sorry to bother you with something trivial. I just noticed you dealt with the name change request following mine. I tried to change my username for the first time and think I made a moxy of it by trying to change it more than once. I decided I didn't like what I changed it too and picked something else. Before I knew it I had redirects and double directs coming out of my hair! What have I done? Any advice would be welcome. • You have repeated "any" on your message above.
• "I may not be experienced but I don't think age matters" — These are two completely different concepts, plus, there should be a comma after experienced.
• Did not capitalise "when" on your RfA statement directly after a full stop; where the sentence begins... "When I first joined."
• If people can't read an article it won't give them the information they require. — should have a comma after article.

Help Wiki

Hi, As you know I now have the xml data for all the pages. At the moment I'm still thinking over what to do with the content but I think incorporating it back into Wikipedia is the way to go. Unfortunately I don't think the CC license used is compatible with the GNUFDL(its the no commercial restriction in the CC license that is the problem). Anyway if I am going to incorporate that pages back into Wikipedia I'll need you to release your work under the GNUFDL, just something like "I agree to release my work under the GNUFDL" will be fine. Unfortunately, no. Most for earlier seasons don't have DVD commentaries and I don't have access to the DVD its self, so unfortunately, I have no plans on that. But I do intend to bring all the Season 5 episodes (Stewie Loves Lois onwards) up to GA, although I wont be able to do the last 3 of that season, as the DVD missed them episodes out, which is really annoying. Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Peter Griffin.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

Sorry, I posted to the image's talk page 2 days ago. Looks like there is no specific source for this image specified on the image page, save for "promotional poster". Best to use a different image for Peter Griffin, one that can be easily tracked back to a source, perhaps either a url or a self-scan by somebody from something, preferably a url. Portal:Norway

No prob, take whatever you want from that portal, it's a wiki, right? But also, can you please look at my response for the WP:FPORTC for Portal:Norway? The standard has generally loosely been (10) for the number of selections in rotations in the various subsections, which Portal:Norway has in Selected articles, and has more than that in other subsections, I don't really think that should be a reason not to support (but either way I am now in the process of adding a few more into rotation). Road to Germany

Your assessment that all future Family Guy articles are in terrible condition wasn't exactly the best thing to say. Also, please note that if an article, such as Road to Germany, has an adequate number of sources, it is notable. The United States copyright office is a good enough source I believe. If you continue to revert these future episode articles, just because they haven't aired yet, you might as well go back through every single TV show episode that hasn't aired yet and revert those articles as well. FG Season 5

Hi Qst, seems like I'm a little busy but I've found a few minutes for some obvious comments to precede FLC...

• Add an image.
• Not sure Monday is really required for the start date.
• "The Griffin's," - why apostrophe?
• What's the "<td id="epnumber">number" at the start of the episode list? = Ah, there's a bad format job in the first episode.
• "Quahog becomes the subject of a flu epidemic, however, the vaccines are in short supply, but Peter succeeds in receiving one, however is informed by the doctor he is in need of a prostate examination" too many clauses...
• "Upon receiving a small part of the test..." curious wording, I know what you mean but it needs rephrasing.
• "believing himself to have been raped." - "believing that he has been raped"?
• "...results in his medical ..." -lost who "his" is in this sentence so "...results in Hartman's medical ..."
• " teedy bear" teddy.

Hi Qst, you're listed as the maintainer of the England portal, which for I think the third month running has failed to update properly. Is there any way of changing the portal to just use random content, so as to avoid this in future? There is, but for mistake requests, its not really worth archiving them. When I was the main clerk there, I made up a few "unofficial rules" (they weren't too controversial,) and I tend to still stick by them, so if the target username didn't exist and was renamed via the normal process, it should be fine to delete it. :-) Qst (talk) 16:34, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, when a user seems to make a joke request and not bother specifying either their current or target username, I used to just remove the request and ask them to re-post it if they can complete it correctly. SSSIs

Thanks for the message - you're right, it's easier to take this offline. Basically, the problem here is that, as I understand the FL criteria, it fails on the last bit of criterion 6, which I've always taken as meaning there should be minimal redlinks (whether they're shown as such or not) - although I may be out of step with how others are interpreting this. If we have a list of items, whose reason for inclusion in the list is a/the reason for their notability, then those items should have articles. If something should have an article but if that article doesn't exist, it should be represented by a redlink, rather than as plain text (which disguises the fact that the article doesn't exist). Any other comments I've made on the list are just opinions or improvement suggestions; it's just the redlinks thing that is driving my oppose "vote". Don't know if that helps? Re: SSSI notability, it depends on your definition, but the standard definition we use at Wikipedia (per WP:Notability is as follows: "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to be notable". There are whole lot of caveats around what that definition means, but I can't think of many SSSIs which wouldn't meet that criterion - many, in order to have been notified in the first place, would have already met it pre-notification; others will meet it within a short time of notification due to increased focus in the scientific / conservation literature. The only ones that are perhaps borderline are very new SSSIs whose interest was not well-known before notification but theit apparent lack of notability is only a short-term phenomenon. Does that help? If you're not convinced, can you let me know why you think many SSSIs won't meet this criterion, as I'm struggling to see how that can be. Thanks. Thanks - that's clearer. This brings us back to the question of whether SSSIs are notable. What we've done with Avon, Somerset etc is to create stubs for all SSSIs, on the premise that all are notable. If I can't convince you on the latter point then we aren't going to agree on how the issues with the list should be addressed, so that's where we should focus our attention, I think. Good luck with your SSSI list! I was reading your talk with SP-KP and was worried that we may have a conflict of interest. My current drive is reducing the number of East Sussex stubs, and I see you may be creating a whole new batch for me. It will be much better if we work together.

According to criteria at WP:UKCITIES

“ Writing about the smallest of settlements in the UK can be difficult due to the lack of source material, especially when compared with the country's major metropolises. Some of the UK's smallest settlements may form part of a civil parish or council ward. Country hamlets and villages may mention significant places that might not be considered part of the village, but which lie within the parish or ward. Hamlets that are within another parish or council ward could have their own articles, but if there is no more than a couple of paragraphs that could be said about the hamlet it may be best practice to merge the articles. ”

which means that I am merging/redirecting all the one liners such as Offham, East Sussex into the appropriate civil parish. That will include your new one of Folkington. See Lewes (district), Rother and Wealden for a parish list.

I suggest that instead of creating a batch of one-line stubs, we point the SSSI list to the civil parish. As part of my ongoing drive, I will start adding and expanding the SSSI information in the parish article. Obviously, there will be SSSIs that will eventually warrant their own article. All the parishes in East Sussex have existing articles so there is no need to create any new ones, all you need to do is point the link to the appropriate parish. England geo-stubs

Hi Qst - good to see a few new stub articles on East Sussex. A couple of points for future reference though - each English county has its own geo-stub template, so if you're planning to make any more it'd save a bit of work if you used {{EastSussex-geo-stub}} (or other country equivalents) rather than {{England-geo-stub}}. Also you only need to use {{DEFAULTSORT}} if you want to sort the articles other than by the order of the title (e.g., if you want people's names listed surname first) - it's not needed if you want, say Asham Quarry listed alphabetically under Asham. East Sussex SSSI list

Hi. Well done for your hard work on this. I'm happy to lend support - there's just one more small thing you could do which would help. Can you compile a list of the SSSIs in the list for which no article yet exists, and post it to the talk page of the Sussex list. The Scottish lists came direct from Scottish Natural Heritage, and the Welsh ones from Countryside Council for Wales, which in theory gives us a sourcing problem, which I'm not sure I have an answer to. SP-KP (talk) 22:50, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Dude, it's like this, he has a history with MANY, MANY people on here, but has never been blocked. I can figure he has an insider(like a family member or the like) working for Wikimedia. It's at least a new editor he has problems with every week. I would not assume good faith with him, because he is hardly here to improve this project. I think he is here to make as much drama as possible(his good buddy handler TPIRFanSteve used to give him pointers on harassing Hdayejr, mind you), not to make any valid edits.
