The following is a discography of releases by Scion A/V, which is the lifestyle marketing division of Scion. Scion A/V began releasing music in 2003. Scion does not own the master recordings, which are retained by the bands.[1]

Overview[edit]

Scion CD Samplers[edit]

The first releases by Scion A/V were the Scion CD Samplers, a series of free unmixed compilations of previously released hip-hop and electronic music.[2] Starting with Volume 7 in 2003 and continuing through 2007, these samplers were mixed by DJs, including Peanut Butter Wolf & Jazzy Jeff, Mr. Scruff, Cosmo Baker,Flosstradamus, and Darko of Spank Rock.[3] Beginning with Scion CD Sampler V.17: Vice Records in 2007, the series began focusing on collaborations with various record labels,[4] including Iheartcomix,[5] Ninja Tune, Daptone, Fool's Gold, Dim Mak Records, and Sound Pellegrino.[6]

Scion A/V officially started promoting their eponymous record label[7] in 2005[8] with the release of two vinyl records: The Missing 12-inch by Los Angeles’ 65-plus piece Dakah Hip Hop Orchestra featuring the rapper Guru of Gang Starr,[9] and one by Brooklyn hip-hop duo Junk Science.[10] Following the Dakah release, the Scion A/V label continued with a series of collaborative 12-inch vinyl records featuring live bands “covering” songs with hip-hop vocalists.[11]

Original releases[edit]

EPs and singles have been released digitally and on CD by various artists, including New Orleans bounce rapper Big Freedia[12] and Seattle garage rock band The Spits, who released a mini-album and accompanying storybook called Haunted Fang Castle in 2010.[13]

Scion A/V Remix series[edit]

A Scion A/V Remix EP is released digitally and via free CDs and/or vinyl. House, disco, and dubstep producers are enlisted to remix tracks by artists such as The Melvins,[14] Juan Atkins,[15] Japanese metal band Boris,[16] Detroit garage rock band The Dirtbombs,[17] and DJ/producer Todd Edwards.[18] Also included in the series are remixes of songs by up-and-coming acts.[19]

Scion A/V Garage 7-inch series[edit]

In 2010 and 2011, Scion released a series of 14 split seven-inches, which were issued on vinyl and digitally. The 7-inches are given away at Scion events and by the bands involved. Each side belongs to one garage rock artist or band.[20]

Bands and artists featured in the garage 7-inch series are Oblivians, The Spits, Dan Melchior, Andre Ethier, Kid Congo Powers, Hunx and His Punx, Nobunny, The Black Lips, Cheap Time, The Dirtbombs, Strange Boys, Reigning Sound, and Digital Leather.
