The Battle of Masuda was fought between the armies of the Chōshū Domain and the Tsuwano Domain on the 3rd of September 1864 during the prelude to the Boshin war. It concluded in a victory for the Chōshū Domain.

As a result, the Tsuwano Domain had very little manpower left to wage war against the Chōshū. Instead of taking over Iwami Province, the Chōshū had offered the Tsuwano vassalage as an alternative so long that they abandon their loyalty the Shogun and support the Emperor instead. The Tsuwano Domain had agreed and became a vassal to the Chōshū Domain.
