gif → svg[edit]

Someone can replace Image:Bandera de España(1701-1748).gif with Image:Bandera de España 1701-1748.svg? Thanks. --Durero (talk) 19:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1977 flag[edit]

Please, replace the 1977 flag with Image:Flag of Spain 1977 1981.svg --B1mbo (talk) 20:50, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Franco's flag[edit]

Where is Franco's flag? The 1939 flag is the one Spain used from 1945 to 1977. Please fix this. Chris (talk) 14:47, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why ESP?[edit]

This is English Wikipedia. We don't use SUO for Finland, MAG for Hungary, or AOR for New Zealand. Why do we have ESP for Spain? It might have high recognition, but it is still inappropriate to have foreign language abbreviations. Kevin McE (talk) 23:27, 21 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

La Rioja[edit]

The template for La Rioja was ambiguous so I moved it. This one for Spain is locked by User:Andrwsc like many others, so I cannot fix it even though it now links to a redirect.

Civil flag until 1927[edit]

We need a code for the civil flag that was in use until 1927. I've had a go myself but can't seem to get it to work. Is there a limit to the number of aliases available? If so, it creates a serious problem here. Mjroots (talk) 20:53, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's working. {{flag|Spain|civil}} produces  Spain. It's just the documentation that doesn't show (var1 up to var9 only), but there is a workaround by including this information on Template:Country data Spain/doc instead. See Template:Country showdata#Additional documentation for more information about this. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:05, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That is was the current civil flag, introduced in 1978. The pre-1927 civil ensign, flown by merchant ships until then is File:BandMercante1785.svg - this is the flag I meant. See Flag of Spain. Mjroots (talk) 18:16, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Managed to fix it myself now. The |civil variant should be used for Spanish merchant ships from 1785-1927, with the relevant year variant before and after then. Mjroots (talk) 18:29, 24 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you got it sorted! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:14, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

esp old flag[edit]

Please, change Flag of Spain 1977 1981.svg to Flag of Spain (1977 - 1981).svg as it was renamed at Commons. Thanks. --Basetalkсontr. 13:54, 22 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Add SPA to the redirects[edit]

Both ESP and SPA work as country data redirects for Spain, as Template:Country data SPA (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) proves.—Ryūlóng (琉竜) 05:49, 25 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Current civil flag[edit]

Could someone please add the plain red-yellow-red civil flag () to the list. Smartskaft (talk) 10:59, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It used to be included, until Mjroots replaced the civil variant by a former civil ensign in May 2012. I'll rename it to civil-1785 and add the current civil flag as civil after checking if civil is currently in use. SiBr4 (talk) 12:57, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Smartskaft: and SiBr4 - my understanding was that the civil flag was done away with in 1927, and vessels used the (current) national flag after that date. I'm not saying that you're wrong though and that there is a (different) civil flag now. Do we have dates for this alternative civil flag? Mjroots (talk) 14:35, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Re-reading discussions on this talk page, it appears that the new civil flag was introduced in 1978. Therefore I've added it to the template with the name "civil2". Thus {{flag|Spain|civil2}} produces  Spain. I avoided renaming the original civil flag because it is in use across a great deal of ship articles and lists of shipwrecks. Mjroots (talk) 19:33, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Would you object to renaming the variant label for the historical civil ensign to one with year, so the plain civil can be used for the current civil flag (note the difference between a civil flag, on land, and a civil ensign, at sea)? Of course articles using the former ensign would need to be updated (the tracking category currently lists 34 pages, which may be far from all due to the job queue), though that can be simply done with AWB. SiBr4 (talk) 22:14, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've changed civil into civil-1785 in the template and all 117 articles using the variant (the pages I didn't edit were User:Mjroots/Flags, a user talk page, an article talk page, a project talk page and this template talk page), and civil2 into civil in nine articles. I'm fairly sure no other pages use civil2 that aren't in the category yet, but will wait some more days before removing it from the template. SiBr4 (talk) 20:05, 29 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Basketball link[edit]

Someone please add this parameter | altvar = {{{altvar|}}} so when we use the template {{bk|Spain}} it links to the current article. Like this  Spain.Hugopako (talk) 05:31, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request for 1980 Olympics[edit]

Hey, how could i use IOC flag for Spain? Because Spain participate 1980 Olympics under IOC flag. --Aleenf1 04:43, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Olympic flag templates don't use data templates like this one, but have their own flag template system, which includes the Olympic flag for Spain at the 1980 Olympics: {{flagIOC|ESP|1980 Summer}} Spain. What template do you want to use that would require the Olympic flag to be added here? SiBr4 (talk) 10:30, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, is {{fh}} template. --Aleenf1 13:33, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Not done: This template only stores actual national flags used by the country, as far as I can see. The IOC flag is therefore not a "variant" of the Spanish national flag that could be added. I would propose using the template SiBr4 mentioned. Enterprisey (talk!) 03:41, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
FlagIOC and its sister templates can't link to team articles such as Spain men's national field hockey team like Fh does, though. An (admittedly suboptimal) option would be {{flagg|unp|Spain|avar=fh|image=Olympic flag.svg}} Spain (using the WPFT system with custom image), though there should really be a template for national teams in the FlagIOC2 system. Change the aliases to:
alias = Spain
flag alias = Flag of Spain.svg
flag alias-1506 = Flag of Cross of Burgundy.svg
flag alias-1701 = Bandera de España 1701-1748.svg
flag alias-1748 = Bandera de España 1748-1785.svg
flag alias-1785 = Flag of Spain (1785–1873, 1875–1931).svg
flag alias-1873 = Flag of the First Spanish Republic.svg
flag alias-1874 = Flag of Spain (1785–1873, 1875–1931).svg
flag alias-1931 = Flag of Spain (1931–1939).svg
flag alias-1936 = Bandera del bando nacional 1936-1938.svg
flag alias-1938 = Flag of Spain (1938–1945).svg
flag alias-1945 = Flag of Spain (1945–1977).svg
flag alias-1977 = Flag of Spain (1977–1981).svg
flag alias-civil = Flag of Spain (Civil).svg
flag alias-civil-1785 = BandMercante1785.svg
Both to add missing flag from chronology and also removed the "WFB" flags as they are just based on the shades used in pictures in different editions of the CIA World Factbook (you can see if you open the flag image) and not are official or even real changes to the flag used by Spain, they should not be included and especially not linked to a specific year
Havsjö (talk) 00:05, 8 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the code needed to replace the current one to implement these changes
These will produce no errors of files who use these aliases, as they will automatically revert to the default spanish flag
enter edit mode for indexed version, I didnt know how to put it here normally...

Template air force link to Spanish Air Force (probably by creating the parameter |link alias-air force=, to result in {air force|Spain}})

Sundostund (talk) 22:21, 4 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To editor Sundostund: the code has been sandboxed. If a flag alias is not used, then the link appears with Spain's main flag, so I included that as a flag alias as well. If that is acceptable, then give me a holler and the sandbox can go live. P.I. Ellsworth - ed. put'r there 12:00, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To editor Paine Ellsworth: Yes, that is surely acceptable! As I saw on many other country data templates, its quite common to use the country's main flag, when the flag of the service branch in question is missing. After all, the code for the Spanish Army is using the country's main flag as well. —Sundostund (talk) 22:02, 5 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Naval ensign[edit]

As in other country data templates, the "navy" alias used naval ensign instead of naval jack. Please change this following line:

| flag alias-navy = Naval Jack of Spain.svg
| flag alias-marines = Naval Jack of Spain.svg

into this line:

| flag alias-navy = Flag of Spain.svg
| flag alias-marines = Flag of Spain.svg
