One of the notable points that could be made about Robert Service is that he is far from lacking ideological fervour, nor is he widely regarded as dispassionate. This really shouldn't be here. Tdgtdg 21:47, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

When he taught at SSEES, it was not a part of Univ. College, London but a separate constituent college of the federal University of London, in the same fashion as SOAS. Univ. took over/rescued/gutted* SSEES after his period of tenure there. This should be amended. Btw I never found his lectures to be partisan in the slightest but rich in their considered detail. He's very good at the recreation of a zeitgeist at a particular time rather than being a slave to system Jatrius 14:58, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

It is a lot easier to delete a link to a refutation of your ideas than it is to provide a link to your own response. if you are going to describe Service's stance as "anti-communist" then you should provide supporting references. The reference to certain socialist's disagreeing with him does not make him an anti-communist. I think we can refer to his "stance" being criticized b some socialists without labeling him as an anti-communist. Nope. Patenaude had a COI as he was not just the reviewer, but the author of the very book competing with Service's, making his review highly suspect. This was covered in depth by Inside Higher Ed. Serously, this kind of COI has no place here. I'm going to archive this entire talk page due to this obvious and continuing shenanigans. It's one thing to criticize an Apple product, but quite another to be a paid Microsoft engineer or Samsung worker publishing the review. Viriditas (talk) 00:19, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
