New more recent sales figure

Anyone have a more up to date sales figure as the curent one is 3 months old?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.228.225 (talk) 22:19, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Does anyone think vgchartz.com is a reliable source for console/game sales? (source) As of 13 Jan 2008

  • PS3 - 9224579
  • Xbox 360 - 16478404
  • Wii - 19938017

Wolf2p (talk) 08:40, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

NO, it is generally accepted as not being a reliable source. It can be correct, but it can be not verified untill the official figures are announced. John.n-irl (talk) 22:11, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Information about the PS3 outselling the 360 worldwide has been removed. Why? it's from widely reported sales figures you can't argue with plain cold figures direct from the manufacturers. Movellon (talk) 22:07, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
The sources you used [1] [2] doesn't indicate that the "PS3 outselling the 360 worldwide". --Silver Edge (talk) 01:30, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12523/CES-2007-Xbox-360-Announcements-Leaked/ indicates that as of December 2006 they'd sold 10.4 million 360's, http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6184291.html this says that they sold 7.3 million consoles in 2007 and this http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3_sale_e.html shows that the PS3 sold 8.83 million in 2007. Simple maths would indicate that the PS3 sold more than the 360 using official numbers from both companies or are you going to try and pull a consensus or own research and try to argue that actually 8.83 million can't be verified as being more than 7.3 million? Well and here's an independent source http://n4g.com/industrynews/News-106357.aspx. Movellon (talk) 02:38, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

IPTV

there's nothing about the Korean MegaTV IPTV service which was launched on November 20, 2007 in South Korea (official website). Cliché Online (talk) 19:01, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, there is. Dancter 20:07, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
got it. by the way i wasn't able to get it on my jap PS3. i'm not sure if it is a downloadable software like the Folding@Home or a korea special XMB 2.01 built-in. i think it's the first one, requesting several verifications which are not limited to Resident registration number (South Korea), these guys in korea are serious. the PS3 firmware seem to be universal though. MegaTV must be a downloadable software. Cliché Online 21:48, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

40 GB Chrome

The 40 GB is lacking a chrome strip that runs across the bottom of the PS3, should this be mentioned? Df747jet (talk) 08:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

yep, it belongs to the specific specs chart. Cliché Online 21:51, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
update, chrome trim is actually included in the jap 40GB model as shown here. Cliché Online 17:28, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
No dude, you don't get it, look at the 40 GB model shown here and look at the 60 GB shown here. Df747jet (talk) 21:01, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Well in the UK both have chrome strips (I believe) But the 60GB version has nicer ones... Also i tjhought that it was only the 20 GB that had No Chrome--Froggybuster (talk) 09:06, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Has anyone compared the photo's I posted? I'm not comparing which one is nicer. The 40GB lacks chrome trim on the base of the console. Df747jet (talk) 23:50, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanksgiving

Are there any numbers for black friday? Sony beat MS and Nintendo last month in Japan, and MS lied about how much they beat the PS3.--Playstationdude 20:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes, they claimed they doubles PS3 sales, when actually they trippled PS3 sales. This should be added, also about how Sony said MS sold less than twice as many consoles, when actually it was more than twice as many. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.165.59.39 (talk) 03:29, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

60GB discontinued in Europe

There's no mention in the article that the 60GB model has been totally discontinued in Europe. THe only one officially on sale is the 40GB, meaning you can't buy a PS3 here with backwards compatability. And yet it STILL COSTS MORE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD!!! HDCP

All this content and not a single mention of HDCP? The Playstation 3 requires a HDCP compliant TV or monitor to display HD resolutions. Otherwise it will default to 480i. Seems like pertinent information to me. 64.106.28.4 (talk) 18:59, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Please re-read the article and tell me where it says the howto on hooking up the PS3 to a TV via HDMI. Back? Now please consider this: the article states numerous times that the PS3 has HDMI specification 1.3a. In the wikipedia HDMI article, I quote: "Beginning with HDMI CTS 1.3a, any system which implements HDCP must do so in a fully-compliant manner. HDCP compliance is itself part of the requirements for HDMI compliance." with the sources in respected article. Any more questions?--WhereAmI (talk) 01:12, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

weasel words solution

The sentence "Many suggest[weasel words] that the removal of the 20 GB model in North America was probably made to save with manufacturing costs, as there is a difference in cost between the two models of around $30." Can be easily reworded to do away with the weasel words and other grammatical incoherencies. My suggestion is "It is widely speculated that the removal of the 20 GB model from the North American Market was probably done in order to save manufacturing costs, as there is a difference in cost between the two aforementioned models of around $30." This is my best suggestion based on my advanced writing skills and analysis. Use it or a similar composition if you so desire but I'm not forcing the designated author to use it whatsoever. Just a helpful suggestion, that's all.

There is no designated author to this page. The reason you think you may not be able to change anything is because of your IP address instead of making a wikipedia account. We have to take the measure of stopping IP addresses from changing things because of constant, and do I mean CONSTANT, vandalism. Please make a Wikipedia account - it's easy, up in the right hand corner it says "sign up" and just follow the step by step instructions.--WhereAmI (talk) 19:11, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Reception Section

I'm not trying to start a huge battle here, but I feel that the "Reception" section is getting out of hand. I mean, it's been more than a year since the PS3 launched, so who wants to read a detailed decription of what was said/thought a year ago? I think the section needs to be greatly reduced and placed in a historical context (ie. equal representation for both sets of opinions and only the best/most eloquent examples of reactions should be retained. see the Wii's section on this for what I mean). I eagerly await your thoughts on my proposal. Thingg (talk) 00:39, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

SACD

Someone needs to add something about firmware 2.00 being able to output SACD as 5.1 DTS over the optical cable. And then say that firmware 2.01 actually removed this function, without Sony providing a reason for the change. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.203.71.130 (talk) 10:52, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Edit: Ignore me, just realised it's in the main System Software article. Sorry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.203.71.130 (talk) 10:57, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Correct. There was a statement in the original article about the DSD-to-DTS conversion feature in 2.00 but I notice it's gone now (probably removed after 2.01 was issued).
Note that Sony never documented the feature in the first place so they needn't account for removing it again. The Seventh Taylor (talk) 20:50, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

Removed second "Selected Home Video Game Consoles" template

I don't think it is necessary to include the "Selected Video Game Consoles" twice in this article. I understand why it was probably included the second time, but I feel it is unnecessary. If you disagree, please feel free to put it back. Thingg (talk) 22:35, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion for making this article shorter

I did not put that tag on this page, but I definately agree with it. I looked at the page, and I noticed that a good portion of the present article is made up of a section on the PS3's system software. Does anyone object to me moving most of that information to the PlayStation 3 System Software article? At the present, all that page has is basically a list of the updates to the system software and what they added. I feel that the information on the PS3's software capabilities will fit in very appropriately with the information that is already there. If no one has any objections, I will move the information within 36 hours. Thingg (talk) 02:08, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

I agree. The system software section on this article should be moved to PlayStation 3 System Software, and it should be compressed and made concise on this article. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 08:10, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

The Prose Timeline conflict

The Prose Timeline conflict is pointless. Wikipedia is nearing a strange kind of conflict here. If wikipedia is trying to be a professional encyclopedia, why on earth would they allow everyone everywhere to edit it? They obviously aren't professionals and cannot be expected to produce professional quality work. On the other hand, to complain about an inappropriate mixture of prose and timeline format is ignorant. A list is an appropriate addition to a prose piece, and a timeline must include prose explanations of each entry. And the claim of its inappropriate nature isnt supported with any details. I've studied writing for years, journalism is my college major, and I can assure you that it is not an inappropriate mixture of prose and a timeline. If copyediting is the issue, go ahead and claim it needs to be written better. I would support a motion to ask that it be written more clearly, but at this point, I move to take down that really ignorant banner complaining about its inappropriate nature. Thend (talk) 21:30, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

The Prose Timeline conflict is gone. So, no one debated the issue I raised earlier, and I went ahead and relieved the article of that additional clutter. Thend (talk) 22:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm the one who added the banners originally, back when the template read, "This article or section may contain proseline." I'm not a professional writer, but it was my opinion that the text suffered from the style problems laid out in the essay to which the template links. I didn't major in journalism in college, so it's not as clear to me how I was so ignorant in adding them. If you're willing, I would appreciate some guidance on the matter. Dancter (talk) 22:01, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

The response Alright, well, I cannot make it clear to you that you were ignorant in adding those banners, because I never claimed that you were ignorant. So, let's concede that there was no personal attack there. I do harbor a particular animosity for misused banners, however, and this is wikipedia, so we have before us a forum dedicated to discussing why I might be against something you thought was appropriate. And if you thought that it was, that's fine, but we have discussion pages so I can tell everybody why I disagree, and so you can tell everyone why you thought so in the first place.

It's not unreasonable to have seen the format of the article and thought, ok, this should be revised. and it should, but the proseline thing is not the issue. what most likely caused this article to appear this way, was that it was updated on the relevant dates and was meant to be a really up-to-date article about how great playstation 3's were going to be, and then no one took care of it for a while. So we're left with this list of headlines describing action that is no longer current. So, the proseline banner is not a clear or applicable way to describe that the dates are no longer relevant or necessary information, and that someone should condense the article to contain information we need to know now.

There are two main criteria for news stories. One states that the article must be about new information that holds consequence for its readers. Or, the second states that the article must contain new information of consequence about an old topic. So the dates should be taken out because this is no longer news, this no longer holds consequence.

So, I'm saying that the proseline banner is not applicable to the text (1), and that is was not the best way to let the community know that revisions should take place (2). And as you thought my earlier post could have been personally offensive, its a bit inflammatory to include a big banner proclaiming that a part of the article is inappropriate. Thend (talk) 21:53, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Info needed

Some information is needed on why the price cut seen in the U.S hasn't been done in Europe and Australia. Also we need information on why the PS3 is so much more expensive in the U.S. For example, the current exchange rate is $1AUD is almost 90 U.S cents, however the console costs around $500USD, but the 60GB version costs around $900AUD in Oz. Is SONY deliberately "price gouging" to make up for lost profits? Frvernchanezzz (talk) 08:15, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Almost every company in the world who sells in both the US, Japan, Europe and AU Price gauges. I am sick of it, being in the UK. It isnt just Sony. --Froggybuster (talk) 09:10, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Notes on my major edit

I had previously suggested that this change be made. I feel the article is now a reasonable length and I will be removing the tag from the page. Also, when updating the section on system software in this article, please only put a summary until the most recent "major" update. (eg. if the next update is v2.02, then add the info for that update and leave the rest, but if it is v2.10, then remove the present inforamtion and replace it with a summary of the new update). The PlayStation 3 System Software article is the place to put a detailed description of the PS3's software updates. Thanks . Thingg (talk) 15:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Its best to wait for official quarterly reports, none of that inaccurate vgchartz stuff, or whatever spam the companies shout from their mouth to make it seem like they are doing better than competitors. Every company does that, by the way. --WhereAmI (talk) 00:37, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

According to the latest reports the number of ps3 that have been sold worldwide is 7.47 million as of November 2007. You need to update this!!!!! according to the following website:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/multimedia/display/20071218093126_Sony_Hopes_to_Sell_11_Million_PlayStation_3_Systems_to_Consumers_by_Late_March.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by Noorkhanuk85 (talkcontribs) 03:18, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

That source used VGChartz, which is actually pretty unreliable. We'll wait for the quarterly reports. Chan Yin Keen | Talk 03:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

The part that suggests the PS3 is outselling all other consoles according to the GfK figures quoted by the Sony Aus bigwig in Australia may have been correct at launch (which isn't a shock), but now things have settled down, the PS3 is unfortunately lagging. The 3rd quarter GfK sales figures show the PS3 selling 27,000 units compared to 40,000 for the Xbox 360 and 61,000 units for the Wii. About the retail configuration

Can we be reasonable and agree on one specific example of how the retail configuration box is going to be modelled and what it is going to include and not include? Because every time I check it is a different version. This has been the case for several months now, that it is being reshaped at least twice every week. We need a more static retail configuration box. — EliasAlucard (talk · contribs) 20:26, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

In Production vs Availability

I switched the last line of the table back to "In Production", and marked the 60GB PAL as "No", since anything not in production might be (and at the moment almost certainly is) still available from various merchants. You can still buy Sega Genesis games factory sealed from certain merchants, so there's no way to prove when all stock is sold from every merchant - availability is too subjective to market conditions, whereas In Production is much easier to prove. Proposal for new subarticles

Does anyone object to me making seperate articles for the bulk of the info under "Retail configurations" and "Games"? I feel these sections are far to detailed for a broad discussion of the PS3. I thought I should ask here before I do this. Thingg (talk) 18:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I would say they should probably stay here. A new article called "Retail configurations of PlayStation 3" probably shouldn't be created, because the different versions of the ps3 would be one of the main pieces of information people are looking for when they read the article PlayStation 3. Same with the "Games" section - I think it gives a good summary of PS3 games, and then links to the other articles about them, such as this, this, and this. Although I do suppose the "Games" section could be trimmed down (much the same way you did in the System Software section) and then the bulk of the information from the Games section could be merged with the information on List of PlayStation 3 games and List of PlayStation Network games into an article called PlayStation 3 games. Controller input

I have just reverted this edit. The reason I reverted it is because all reliable sources state that the PS3 supports 7 wireless controllers. I don't care if you state that you own a PS3 and you think can't use more than 4 controllers - you are not a reliable source, so unless you can find a reliable source that explicitly states it can only support 4 controllers, it is original research and cannot be added. Besides this, games such as FIFA 08 do actually have support for seven players. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 02:47, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

"Retail Configurations" section proposal

I would like to propose making a small article called Timeline of PlayStation 3 SKUs or something similar to list the information that is currently placed under the table of SKUs. Most of the info probably doesn't need to be listed here, and I feel this article would be fine without it being included. Then, if readers wish to find out more about when and where the SKUs were released, they can just click on the link and read away. Thingg (talk) 01:42, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

I support the creation of the new article. In the "Retail configurations" section of this article, I think that the table and the couple of sentences above it should stay on the main PS3 article, though the rest should be moved to the new article. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 01:58, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

The figure does not really add up. NPD says that the PS3's US sales up to October 2007 were 2.3 million.

November's US sales were 466 thousand.

December's US sales were 1.2 million.

This gives a grand total of just under 4 million (3,966,000) PS3 consoles sold in the US.

Maybe the figure they are quoting includes Canada/Mexico/rest of north america. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.125.22.164 (talkcontribs)

the 80GB US has half software emulation and half hardware and the titles are on a Sony server somewhere for you to find out what works. Failed GA nom, Jan 2008

Closer, closer, but too many problems to simply just put on hold. Let's have a blow by blow:

  • Lead; hardly summarizes the entire article; the amount you have there is pretty good for the first paragraph, but let's have another with information of its development, marketing, SKUs, hardware, reception, et al. There's lot's that isn't talked about.
  • Refs in general; will talk more about later, but fix ref #29!
  • Citations: a general lack of refs where they are needed. Just one example, from history:

Also announced were two configurations of the console, a "60 GB" and "20 GB", for $599/€599 and $499/€499 respectively. The 60 GB would be the only configuration to feature a HDMI port, Wi-Fi internet, and a chrome trim with the logo in silver. It was announced for a global release date, November 11th for Japan and November 17th for North America and Europe. On September 6, 2006, Sony announced that the PAL region (Europe and Oceania) PlayStation 3 launch had been delayed until March 2007, due to a shortage of diodes used in the Blu-ray Disc drive.

Pretty much every sentence in those paragraphs can be contested and thus sourced.
  • Software- merge or remove the one-sentence sections and paragraphs.
  • Publicity and Reception- besides lacking some refs as stated above, has horrible POV issues. The most notable issue is the EGM quote with Tretton- "If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1,200 bucks for it." That could probably be contrasted with PA's $13,200 bounty demanded of Tretton, for example.[3] The first paragraph about the marketing slogan is horribly out of place. Overall, I would suggest complete reorganization, with positives/negatives, et al, not this random smattering of comments and facts in no sort of order.

sales

someone has an agenda to keep the sales figures for the ps3 down. the console has sold far more than 6 million, yet some cunts keep it at this for some reason. also motorstorm and resistance are not the only million sellers, assassins creed and COD4 have both sold well over a million each, and PES and FIFA08 are nearly there. this can easily be sourced even if u just find the total sales then subtract sales of 360 etc. overall it is very clear that wikipedia has a very anti sony bias and would love nothing more than seeing the company go down in flames. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.179.186.254 (talk) 05:05, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

I think we are waiting for a total sold figure from a genuine source, I haven't seen the total sold figure mentioned within the media for a while now, it's to bad Sony didn't state the total number sold at CES rather then only part of the December figures, as Microsoft released their total sold figure at CES. VG Chartz has the figure at 8,963,324 altough this site isn't classed as reliable. I'd say there will be an official announcement when total sales reach 10 million.

Denzelio (talk) 00:00, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Why isn't VGC classified as reliable? How are they different to any other industry figures? Don't they base on sales not shipping or manufacturing? 86.17.211.191 (talk) 03:01, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
I will copy what I wrote at the list of the best-selling video games: It has been discussed a lot of times. I made a briefing of the discussion here. Basically, VGChartz is not a real representative of sales information since they modify data based on untrusted algorithms. Whenever the media begins using their data regularly (just like the media uses NPD data regularly) they may be considered reliable. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 03:26, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
There are quite a few websites the use vgchartz's numbers regularly. On top of that, ive even seem them being quoted in a newspaper lol. Mjohnnyg (talk) 03:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

VGChartz.com IS a reliable source and someone needs to update the sales ASAP.Damien Russell (talk) 07:20, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

yeah, i reckon... but ReyBrujo wont let that happen. he's the boss :).Mjohnnyg (talk) 07:20, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Boss my arse - the last time I checked this is Wikipedia and correct information is what its all about.. at the moment is doesnt represent the system well.. we all know it's over the 9 million mark, its just people like ReyBrujo that wont accept this for some stupid reason. Besides that, Sony just annouced they sold 1.2 million consoles in Europe over the Christmas break. So its probebely more like 10-11 million now. Damien Russell (talk) 12:36, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Find a reliable reference (VGChartz is not a reliable source, consensus at WikiProject Video Games stated so) and change it yourself. And maybe you should read our policy again. correct information is not what we are all about. The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. You know something it is true but don't have a reliable source to verify that? Sorry, but then that "something" does not belong to Wikipedia. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 16:48, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
You tell him ReyBrujo! :) No matter how much the media in all forms use vgchartz, don't give up man!:) Mjohnnyg (talk) 07:20, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
This may surprise you, but I would favor VGChartz if it were considered reliable by the specialized media (see here for my rationale). However, we haven't seen the media use VGChartz information as much as they use Famitsu, Media Create or NPD one. Only GamePro whenever they need a breaking news about some console passing some mark, one interview at GamesIndustry (or Next-Generation, can't remember), and a single time when they were used in a press release about a game selling 500,000 on its first month. -- ReyBrujo (talk) 18:23, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't see what the problem is with using vgchartz. There are some media outlets that quote vgchartz numbers. I suppose though, that vgchartz is sort of a "prediction" more than accurate shipment/sales numbers, but there numbers are pretty damn accurate once the "real" figures are released by NPD etc (well, except maybe for the 360; vg says 16.6 million, wikipedia says 17.7 million). Unable to edit article?

When I try to edit the PlayStation 3 article (or its talk page), the normal edit page comes up, but next to the notice that gives the length of the page ("This page is __ kilobytes long."), there's a message in larger font, and the text is red: Expression error: Unrecognised punctuation character "$"

I can't make any edits to the page, and I could only edit the talk page by posting a new discussion. What's going on? —BrOnXbOmBr21talkcontribs • 11:17, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Monday Jan. 28, 2008

I know this is just a prediction that shouldn't be added until there is proof, but... On Monday a white PS3 will retail for $299. Evidence:

  • Major retailer pulling out 80gb model for shelf space
  • Source that predicted 40gb model is reporting the price drop
  • White PS3 filed to the FCC

All clues seem to fit together. Maybe if we are lucky it will be the launch of the DualShock 3 in America also!--Playstationdude (talk) 20:52, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, there are various unconfirmed clues but they may very well work out in a different way, for instance the new $299 price may apply to the current black 40GB unit while the new white model may be a 120GB model replacing the high-end position of the former 80GB model at a different price point. [4] Let's see what happens and wait for real evidence. The Seventh Taylor (talk) 13:18, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
I stuff the local paper, I see the ads before you. The 40GB PS3 is still 400$. At least here. White PS3 does not mean its going to be cheaper (lack of color die saves money?) however I do agree alot of clues are falling into place. I would think it will be out around Metal Gear Solid 4 or DualShock 3, personally. Why release it when one of your biggest games is coming out? To please the publishers, they keep complaining that it is too expensive, so Sony showing devotion to their publishers is major win points. But DS3 time is more likely.--WhereAmI (talk) 06:34, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Reception section is incredibly biased and horribly writen

This section is just horribly writen and has to be changed. First it says the PS3 had poor reception then it talks about how game magazines and websites praised it. How is it possible that fanboys can manage to get around the page lock. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.41.21 (talk) 22:03, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

I think it's pretty undeniable that the PS3 had a rough first year, especially compared to the expectation set by it's predecessor, the mighty PS2. However, to answer your question, the page is only semi-protected. Established Wikipedia users can edit it with no problem. APL (talk) 23:43, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
EVERY console has a rough first year, PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox360. The Wii only escaped this, as it's so similar to the predecessor, that studios hit the ground running. What people fail to understand, is the PS3's first year is no different to all the other consoles, the difference, is the 360 fanboys conviently forget their first year, where basically everything upto Gears sucked badly. Compare it to PS3 launch, with Motorstorm and Resistance, and really the PS3 had a pretty good 1st year.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.75.83.25 (talk) 12:40, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

The section is not biased. If you bothered to think a little bit, you would realize that the section first talks about the initial negative reaction to the ps3, and then goes on to talk about the changing perceptions towards it. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 05:44, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

The "Negative reaction" is just some fanboy complaining about the price. Magazines praised it and this is sourced but not the complaints of the high price —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.41.21 (talk) 00:34, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Criticism about the high price can be sourced pretty easily. Though personally, I thought it's price was ok, since it had all this new technology in it, and was cheaper than a high end/gaming PC. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 01:30, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

i can recall a large amount of bad reviews. but new ones are only coming from fanboy sites or mags, so saying "they dident like it, then they did" seems ok —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.218.44.142 (talk) 00:52, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Yea well you need to somehow get what you recall and put it into a sources and put it up because Gameradar is anything but a credible source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.185.41.21 (talk) 14:12, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
The section does include the statement that the console has received better reviews in recent months, so what more do you need? In addition, at least 6 people looked over the article for its FAC, and no one had any problems with the Reception section. One user, who also did this page's GA apraisal, suggested that the section be ordered in it's present format even though he definately likes the Xbox 360 as he was a driving force behind all of the Halo game article getting to FA status. Personally, I see no problem with the section as is because I feel it accurately reflects the situation as it was in the past and how it is today. Thingg 21:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

This section is definitely biased. If anything, the PS3 saw mixed reviews upon launch as CNET (by far, the most popular consumer electronic review site) gave it very favorable rating of 8.7 of 10. Dangerousns (talk) 21:16, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Sales have reached 10.49 million

...And by "sales" I do mean "shipped to retail". Anyway see Sony's financial report. Sales in the 2006 financial year third quarter were 1.66 million; fourth quarter 2006 were 1.91 million; first quarter 2007 were 0.71 million; second quarter 2007 sales were 1.31 million; and third quarter 2007 sales were 4.9 million. Total is 10.49 million. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 07:31, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

P.S, these are worldwide sales - I can't find info breaking down those sales into the different regions. So I have updated worldwide sales, but not regional data. Frvernchanezzz (talk) 07:33, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
So, these are shipped? I'll update the page to reflect that. --92.4.15.35 (talk) 19:57, 6 February 2008 (UTC) Edit: Having actually opened the pdf, it does say "sold" rather than "shipped". But I don't buy it. Blog Dubious Quality has done the maths and has come to the conclusion that the figure must be at least a million units out. link
The number sony uses is calculated using the same methods microsoft and nintendo use. No one can get 'true' sold numbers. Also that sales figures from NPD and others don't count them all, as they miss certain stores etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.108.119.213 (talk) -- ReyBrujo (talk) 05:29, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Cancer Research

I read in a Popular Mechanics (I think), that soon after the PS3 was released, people started hooking them up to a cancer research project(that home computers were already connected to), greatly increasing the processing power of project. Has anyone else heard this or has the article? I can't find the magazine anymore. Also, should this be mentioned in this article or in the cancer research article (wherever that may be) ~QuasiAbstract (talk/contrib) 13:13, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
