Dates[edit]

The date for the Mutawakkil Kingdom are give as 1918-1958. There is something wrong, as Muhammad al-Badr was not overthrown until Sept. 1962. In the square header at the right, it's even worse: the date given is: - Civil War: September 27, 1958. It should read September 27, 1962, which would concordate with the date given under Muhammad al-Badr, unless I make some mistake or didn't get the clue. Anybody objects if I correct this? Thanks--Ilyacadiz (talk) 20:52, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1948 coup[edit]

"Imam Yahya died during a coup in 1948 and was succeeded by a firm heir. Yahya's son, Ahmad bin Yahya, regained power several months later." I understand that the king was overthrown and killed, but what is a "firm heir"?- obviously not his legal heir.

Mutawakkilite Kingdom of YemenKingdom of Yemen – per WP:COMMONNAME; see ngrams [1] Abo Yemen 13:06, 23 December 2023 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). Abo Yemen 13:07, 23 December 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 07:10, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. There have been many monarchies in what is now Yemen. The adjective is a disambiguator. —Sesel (talk) 02:26, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Kingdom of Yemen page is a redirect to this article + even if there are any other monarchies in what is now Yemen (which is wrong because none of them had the name "Yemen") this has to be the most popular one Abo Yemen 12:36, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And "North Yemen" is more common than either of them. [2] 71.239.86.150 (talk) 13:34, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
North Yemen usually refers to the Yemen Arab Republic and not the kingdom of yemen as there wasn't a south yemen in the kingdom's lifespan (except for it's final 3 years that were spent in a war with the republicans) for a north to even exist Abo Yemen 15:30, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree, Yemen had numerous kingdoms in its lifespan, and this one is the Mutawakkilite kingdom of Yemen. 3rbFelix (talk) 14:09, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am pretty sure none of them had the name Yemen Abo Yemen 14:18, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There were indeed, take a look at the Yemeni Zaidi State 3rbFelix (talk) 16:37, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@3rbFelix its wp:commonname is the Yemeni Zaidi State and not the kingdom of yemen. Also some might argue that the yemeni zaidi state IS itself the mutawakilite kingdom of yemen Abo Yemen 19:52, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, true, the Yemeni Zaidi state’s accession of Imams continued from then until the end of the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen. So, technically, this does make the Mutawakkilite Kingdom a continuation of the Yemeni Zaidi state. It possibly was the only monarchy that used the region’s name as a part of its name. 3rbFelix (talk) 22:09, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. While there have been various historical monarchies in Yemen, this appears to be the only one to have used the "Kingdom of Yemen" title – most pre-Ottoman ones appear to have gone by dynastic names. ModernDayTrilobite (talkcontribs) 18:06, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Most, not all. Any kingdom should be called by its official name, and in this case, The Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen. 3rbFelix (talk) 15:50, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    see Wikipedia:COMMONNAME Abo Yemen 17:08, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Well if we bring up common names, people most of the times bring up the "Imamate of Yemen" far more than the "Kingdom of Yemen" in both English and Arabic. 3rbFelix (talk) 22:24, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kingdom of Yemen has always been more popular [3]. (We don't care about the Arabic name in the English wikipedia) Abo Yemen 04:40, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom and WP:CONCISE, WP:COMMONNAME etc. Kingdom of Yemen already redirects here, and I don't even see a hatnote which would suggest other targets are necessary to disambiguate against.  — Amakuru (talk) 22:31, 17 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Map[edit]

@3rbFelix there is no reason for us to use that map; doesn't mean another article does something then we should copy it, and while we're on the topic of the map of the ottoman empire, there are 5 other maps and editors there have had many discussions about it there for their own reasons that we can't just copy. Plus there is no mos that i am aware of that says anything about the main map; hence why I decided that a professionally made map is better than a map of the Yemen Arab Republic Abo Yemen 13:47, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I know this problem was solved, but just for clarification, this isn’t just the map of the Yemen Arab Republic, look at this official stamp by the Mutawakkilite kingdom of Yemen, https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Yemen-kingdom-B26.jpg 3rbFelix (talk) 14:05, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The only difference between the maps of the two states is the control of the island of Perim Abo Yemen 14:07, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
