Interesting[edit]

This is an interesting new category. What's the background to this, XLerate? I see you've only created this for Christchurch so far. Did you come across a database that you are cross checking with NZ BLPs? Schwede66 23:12, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The background is, I was organising Commons files in the overpopulated category commons:Category:United States Naval Academy. That lead to the creation of the category United States Naval Academy Cemetery, then Burials there. Looking to start Burials in New Zealand I made categories for Dunedin Southern Cemetery here and on Commons, then Symonds Street. I thought I'd do one for Wellington or Christchurch next, I figured on the later partly because I knew you'd done a lot of biographies of earlier politicians. I used the CCC cemeteries db unsuccessfully trying to populate Burials at Addington Cemetery, but in the process found lots of records for other ChCh cemetries which I thought better to utilise than discard. So this category got created, modelled after Category:Burials in London. I used the search "died in Christchurch Zealand" and Category:People from Christchurch looking for candidates to query.
The database records have a few other useful pieces of information like occupation and country of birth, I've started adding this where missing. There is also date of death though it appears to be off by a few days about 10-20% of the time, usually when the death and burial dates match. XLerate (talk) 23:51, 7 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Great. I'll add to it as I amend people's bios. I'll add more cemeteries, too. For example, the Barbadoes St cemetery, Christchurch's oldest, is missing as yet. Schwede66 00:46, 8 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
