Hey, could you take a look at this, and perhaps speedy close it if necessary? Thanks, –Juliancolton | Talk 16:50, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ESC FAR[edit]

Thank you for your comment left on my talk page. I was under the impression that, since the FARC process had been started for Eurovision Song Contest, there was some kind of time limit. If it is the case that no action will be taken while work is ongoing, then that is fine. I appreciate your taking the time to let me know! EuroSong talk 10:26, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's true but I can't see any significant progress in July, apart from a few sentences being tweaked, which means that I would soon close it if no work or plan is stated. What is your timeframe/schedule for this? I actually started reviving this project at teh start of 2006 after it died although I haven't done any ESC work for three years now. YellowMonkey (cricket calendar poll!) paid editing=POV 02:43, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
To be perfectly honest, I have no timeframe planned as yet - just that I am trying to find some substantial time to do some work on the article. I have a couple of hours this evening - might make a start then. EuroSong talk 09:46, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I addressed several MOS issues in the article; is there anything else that needs to be done? Dabomb87 (talk) 03:51, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding indef block[edit]

Please see my comment to Tony Fox here and then respond on this page. Is it necessary or worth it to start an SPI in this case? The user now resurfaced as an IP is blocked for 48 hours but was indefinitely blocked last year in several projects in part due to [1]. I have previously participated in private conversations about this user and learned he is apparently medically diagnosed with a disorder. The problem is that blocking a possibly dynamic IP address is unlikely. Sswonk (talk) 23:11, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

you can asked me to do whatever it is that is needed and give the details right here YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 02:59, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think in this case what needs to be done is an indefinite block on the IP address. The block[2] placed by User:Lomn has expired. Given the history outlined best by this Wikipedia:Editor review/Freewayguy 3, an attempt by the user to approach the possibility of adminship(!) in the period preceding the multiple project blocks following the tirades,[3] and what caused me to discover his return[4] showing no change, I think that is the only solution. This user simply can not be allowed back. His medical condition is known and was related as autism to me by a party involved in the initial indefinite blocks. As another party involved has written privately, "His situation is sad and heartbreaking, as you say, but his problems can't be WP's problem. Taking care of him is not our responsibility. His attempts to edit can be big time wasters for others. I spent an hour the other night cleaning up just one article he had trashed. We all have better things to do with our limited time. I don't think it is realistic to expect any positive contributions from him, so whatever you can do to have him blocked will be beneficial to the overall effort." The IP address is over an AT&T DSL speed line in Los Angeles; based on his past statements about where he lives and the times of the edits it is almost certainly the home of the user in question. If you can easily add the IP address to the sockpuppet record for Freewayguy,[5] that should be done as well. Sswonk (talk) 04:08, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
See recent edits: Special:Contributions/69.228.145.50. If you didn't know the situation you would think them either humorous or occurring at the hands of a person with very limited English skills. I am pointing this out in light of the quoted concern above re: wasting our valuable time. I spent a few weeks struggling to deal with the editor last year and now know enough to not engage with him. I suggest an immediate block, see his user page User Talk:69.228.145.50 for previous comments. It's block evasion, I don't know why he is still active on the Reference Desk pages. Sswonk (talk) 03:02, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Lien Thanh[edit]

I don't really pay close attention to the happenings in the Vietnamese community so I haven't heard of him before. Apparently about 300 people turned out for his book debut in Little Saigon, "many connected to the events described in the book". DHN (talk) 04:04, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I hadn't heard of him until yesterday and took a photo of him. So I might just create a stub so that the photo doesn't rot away unused. Surprised that if there were only 300 in Little Saigon given that there were 300 in Adelaide which has less than a 10% of the number of Viets, and the apathy in Australia. I was expecting a riot in the US somewhere. Anyway, the book isn't RS and I was surprised that if he named a few people, he hasn't been sued as if he made such allegations in the US against children, then their name would be suppressed. Adelaide Oval[edit]

Found him amusing actually. What do you know about the push to bring AFL to Adelaide Oval? They must be changing the dimensions of the ground as AFL couldn't be played in its current format. Hope they stay at AAMI or build another stadium as the Andrew Demetriou and his gang will be hell bent on removing the sqaure, like they are at the Gabba, SCG and Manuka. Look how poor the pitch is at the MCG, especially before the Bellerive curator took over. Aaroncrick (talk) 07:56, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be cheaper for the clubs to hire Adelaide Oval and would they only go there is there were expecting less than 30,000? Also the members stand has been demolished so they won't be going there for a while. They already play a lot of SANFL there. I like it when they play sports on non-standard dimensional grounds because it can encourage the players to move the ball to different places. I once played cricket on a school ground where there was a swimming pool adjutting onto the ground at backward square leg, so that it was a standard oval size of maybe 30-35 metres except at square leg it was only about 20 metres short. Everyone was trying to hook the ball there and trying to turn square onto the ball at every opprtunity. Even I managed to hit a six lol YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 00:50, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I think Port Adelaide would like to play at Adelaide Oval as they get crowds of 22-27,000. Adelaide have about 50,000 members so they draw a crowd. From what I've heard AAMI stadium is in a shocking location.

Launceston has some massive grounds. Often 90 metre boundaries to cover/mid-wicket. NTCA Ground is easily the smallest, especially square. Late spring it's near impossible to hit boundaries as the grass is so lush. By the end of Summer there's no grass left. Can't imagine had bad the grounds would be in Perth/Adelaide/Melbourne. Aaroncrick (talk) 08:56, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Football Park is 10km out of the city centre so it's obviously not as convenient as Adelaide Oval. Even with free public govt buses direct from all major shopping centres going to West Lakes there is usually a 5km clogging of Grand Junction Road and you can't turn right for ages. Probably other roads as well. Still even with it in the city I suspect a lot of people will bring their cars because so many like to make their own BBQs before the game and whatnot. As for grass, it would be funny playing AFL/rugby on a bumpy and grassless Indian ground. And pity that VirtualSteve's checkuser vote is tanking. We need guys like him to root out Roland Perry socks YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 01:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know much about VirtualSteve. He made a kind gesture by emailing me when Bidgee has RFA at commons. Judging by comments, Tony seems to be a bit funny... but anyway. Ray Price shouldn't be in SLA either. Aaroncrick (talk) 07:57, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't removed it. A Test average of 36, about 4 wickets per Test, not the end of the world, and most batsmen would have just blocked him and Streak and battered the rest..... I think Venkat averaged about 35 he was pretty highly rated even with passing time people still remember him a lot. YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 08:25, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Only got four wickets a test because he bowled so much. Like when Hayden scored 380, he and Gripper bowled at leg stump or a foot outside off waiting for batsmen to make a mistake. Also Venkat took close to 1400 FC wickets at 24. Although he would have got some underprepared fc wickets in India, that spun square on before luch. Aaroncrick (talk) 09:20, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The whole sport section is on cricket so it may be justified. Hughes dropped for Watson. Interesting if we get any play. Drainage isn't as good at Edgbaston is it? We'd be fine at Lords. Aaroncrick (talk) 07:32, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Or an Indian ground. It just turns into slosh especially when the monsoon comes. The BCCI chiefs never the spend the money on infrastructure at either elite level or getting even basic grounds for rural kids. Don't mind Watson; was the best bowler in India, at least in terms of delivering good balls. I presume they think Johnson is better than Hughes because he can bat almost to a specialist batsman and that they think Johnson will return to his typical career trend of getting lots of wickets off wides. I mean, the Bopara/Hauritz yorked catch was off a big wide that Bopara should have cut instead of pulled.... YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 02:05, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stop adding unsourced BLPs.[edit]

You should know well better than to do that. I will keep redirecting anything with an obvious target per WP:BLP. Your additions are contrary to good editing, to WP:BLP, and are so devoid of content - if these folks are so famous and notable, find sources, find when and where they were born, then write an article. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 18:51, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What are you referring to Carlos? Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:11, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I assume he refers to these seven articles. To be honest, I think the complaint is misfounded, there is nothing terribly wrong with those articles as stubs, and the tone of the complaint was off-colour when directed towards an editing veteran such as YellowMonkey. Daniel (talk) 21:50, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Your assumption is incorrect. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 07:08, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
They were some of the 2009 Tour Down Under cyclists and directeur sportifs whose photos I took who had no article. I knew if the photo was just stashed on commons and another person created the stubs, people would have forgotten about the photo and it would have been orphaned for a long time, so I just started it, like Vittorio Algeri. Normally I would not bother with short articles and I generally write very long articles compared to the mean article size on Wikipedia: see User:YellowMonkey/Contributions. As for "notable" they are effectively coaches/managers of the top 20 cycling teams in the world. You aren't going to say that a coach of European Champions League team isn't notable are you? YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 00:35, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So, Daniel thinks that long-term editors may introduce unsourced BLP's that are devoid of content, w/o even the basics of biographical data? Hmmm... WP:BLP1E says redirect these puppies, and until they are sourced and the person has more than one claim to fame, they'll be redirects. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 06:53, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
BLP1E seems to be about one event in any case, for murder victims, guys who had a brain explosion and broke the law once etc in a not so notable way. These guys have been managers for a while, some of them. YellowMonkey (cricket photo poll!) paid editing=POV 08:03, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, YellowMonkey. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

Ah, well you made the assumption that I was unwilling to reference these articles. Definitely not -> Ron Hamence with the Australian cricket team in England in 1948 (and all the sister articles). I've never been stingy with references (ask the FAC/FAR people). Like I said, I don't normally create short articles, and don't prefer placeholder mini-stubs, but I just put it there so that there isn't an orphaned pic that will get forgotten.
