Linda

Please note that 10F (Linda) was recorded on 160E during the 13th by the JTWC, as Linda straddled the border between the two areas. As a result, I have put Linda in as a tropical depression and being active in SPAC on the 13th.Jason Rees (talk) 12:17, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

After I left this message, I noticed that Linda was called 10F on exactly 160E, which means it was in both basins at the same time. As a result, I have adjusted Linda's dates in Aus to beginning on the 11th and do not see the need to include <small>([[2017–18 South Pacific cyclone season#Tropical Depression 10F (Linda)|Entered basin]])</small> in the infobox. I am also thinking about dropping 10F to OS in the SPAC. If you have any thoughts or comments on this then you know where i am :) Jason Rees (talk) 19:10, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

ESEAP Conference 2018

Hello Typhoon2013,

I’m Irvin from PhilWiki Community, a member of the Communication Committee of the ESEAP Conference. ESEAP Conference 2018 is a regional conference for Wikimedia communities throughout the ESEAP region: ESEAP stands for East, Southeast Asia, and Pacific. Taking place in Bali, Indonesia on 5–6 May 2018, this is the first regional conference for these Wikimedia communities.

East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific are the most under-represented regions within the Wikimedia community. There is a significant number of Wikimedia contributors in our regions, yet we continue to struggle in establishing a well-managed community. This conference will bring participants from various ESEAP communities together in order to better understand the issues and to look for solutions. It also aims to connect people of the Wikimedia movement within ESEAP regions, to share ideas, and to build regional collaborations that are impossible to achieve through online communication.

We’ve got a lot of participation from several countries, but we’re lacking from your country. As we need more participants from your country, we believe that your contribution and participation would be a valuable asset to the success of this event. If you would like to participate in the conference, please do fill the form as soon as possible (by April 5, 2018) and we’ll inform you if you get selected for the conference.

WikiCup 2018 May newsletter

The second round of the 2018 WikiCup has now finished. Most contestants who advanced to the next round scored upwards of 100 points, but two with just 10 points managed to scrape through into round 3. Our top scorers in the last round were:

Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with three featured articles
Iazyges, with nine good articles and lots of bonus points
Yashthepunisher, a first time contestant, with two featured lists
SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with seventeen good topic articles
Usernameunique, a first time contestant, with fourteen DYKs
Muboshgu, a seasoned competitor, with three ITNs and
Courcelles, another first time contestant, with twenty-seven GARs

So far contestants have achieved twelve featured articles between them and a splendid 124 good articles. Commendably, 326 GARs have been completed during the course of the 2018 WikiCup, so the backlog of articles awaiting GA review has been reduced as a result of contestants' activities. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met; most of the GARs are fine, but a few have been a bit skimpy.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). WikiCup 2018 July newsletter

The third round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

Courcelles, a first time contestant, with 1756 points, a tally built largely on 27 GAs related to the Olympics
Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three GAs on natural history and astronomy topics
SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with a variety of submissions related to transport in the state of Washington

Contestants managed 7 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 120 good articles, 1 good topic, 124 DYK entries, 15 ITN entries, and 132 good article reviews. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 458 GA reviews, in comparison to 244 good articles submitted for review and promoted. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process; several submissions, particularly in abstruse or technical areas, have needed additional work to make them completely verifiable.

Be careful about information you provided

JMA did not analyse Prapiroon 960 hPa until 1800Z on July 2. Thus, your point about 0450Z is much closer to 1800Z than 0000Z is not really valid. 🐱💬 13:10, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

@Meow: I don't see the point that my point closer to 18Z is "not valid". Everyone agrees to use a TC image at/closer to peak. This, my point should be valid? And I do know that everyone had contributed to a discussion for a "TC image policy" few weeks back and you opposed it so i don't know here. Typhoon2013 (talk) 19:20, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

@Typhoon2013:@Jason Rees: JMA maintained the same intensity of 0000Z (965 hPa; 65 knots) at 0600Z. Could you say that Prapiroon was stronger at 0450Z because JMA estimated a slightly lower pressure (960 hPa; still at 65 knots) at 1800Z and 0450Z is closer to 1800Z? That is just a logical problem. Being closer to the peak intensity does not equal to being stronger... 🐱💬 02:20, 5 July 2018 (UTC)

Son-Tinh

You made the same mistake that I warned you about last year with Son-Tinh. Right now, there is only one "Typhoon Son-Tinh" so there's no need to add the year for the 2012 one. The current Son-Tinh is not a typhoon yet :P Y E ^Pacific ^Hurricane 03:13, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Next time do not do a cut and paste move in order to preserve page history. Instead, please show some patience and ask an administrator to do it. @Hurricanehink and Cyclonebiskit: pinging WPTC admins to basically move Typhoon Son-Tinh (2018) to Typhoon Son-Tinh (and to 2012 once Son-Tinh 18 becomes a typhoon). Please wait for the RSMC advisory

You really should know better than this, which is hardly the first time I've reverted you for this reason: in the case of the NHC or CPHC, please wait for their advisory to come out before you update it, even if it's only an hour or two before, per WP:CRYSTAL. There's no hurry. @Figfires: Just to note, just because its pressure is 1012 hPa doesn't mean it's extratropical. Moreover, we wait until the RSMC (in this case the JMA) says that it fully dissipated. -- Typhoon2013 07:22, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018 September newsletter

The fourth round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The eight users who made it to the final round had to score a minimum of 422 points to qualify, with the top score in the round being 4869 points. The leaders in round 4 were:

Courcelles scored a magnificent 4869 points, with 92 good articles on Olympics-related themes. Courcelles' bonus points alone exceeded the total score of any of the other contestants!
Kees08 was second with 1155 points, including a high-scoring featured article for Neil Armstrong, two good topics and some Olympics-related good articles.
Cas Liber, with 1066 points, was in third place this round, with two featured articles and a good article, all on natural history topics.
Other contestants who qualified for the final round were Nova Crystallis, Iazyges, SounderBruce, Kosack and Ceranthor.

During round four, 6 featured articles and 164 good articles were promoted by WikiCup contestants, 13 articles were included in good topics and 143 good article reviews were performed. There were also 10 "in the news" contributions on the main page and 53 "did you knows". Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. 01U Liua

Can you tell me what document actually says that 01U is Liua, or the remnants thereof? It's not mentioned in IDQ10810 - Tropical Cyclone Outlook for Coral Sea so is there something I'm missing?--Keith Edkins ( Talk ) 20:58, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

I haven't found a document but was in touch with the BoM, who confirmed that Liua was 01U a few days ago while it was still developing. Either way it was considered to be a tropical low while in Aus and Nadi initiated advisories at 160E so it has to be covered in Aus. To be frank with you both I'm not sure we shouldn't just label Liua as a Cat 1 TC in Aus since Nadi considered it to be one at 160.2E within their marine bulletins.Jason Rees (talk) 05:23, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

The WikiCup is over for another year! Our Champion this year is Courcelles (submissions), who over the course of the competition has amassed 147 GAs, 111 GARs, 9 DYKs, 4 FLs and 1 ITN. Our finalists were as follows:

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Typhoon2013. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
