Yeah, I wasn't sure on that. There is a discussion here about splitting sports and recreation, which I thought would make RPG articles a better fit in just recreation. Just an FYI, in case you've noticed I haven't been using every article I've cross out. There have been a few duplicate articles printed in different newspapers, a few trivial mentions, and some that don't have anything new and/or useful. Sorry for the long delay. I added a nice bit about the educational use, but all the rest I just checked were trivial or duplicates again. #28 is a trivial mention, but what it is talking about is a book that includes what could be a very nice bit of analysis for NWN. Here is the book info: Medievalism in Technology Old and New Cambridge: Brewer. 2008. ISBN 978-1-84384-156-2. The last paragraph from the HighBeam article:

The latter part of Fugelso's collection has contributions by Carol L. Robinson, Oliver M. Traxel, Amy S. Kaufman, Brent Moberly and Kevin Moberly, and Lauryn S. Mayer. They all discuss medievalism in video games. They deal with pseudomedieval elements in computer role-playing, the feminine in Neverwinter Nights, ethics of empire in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, 'Rethinking of Gender in MMORPGs', and the like. Their expert discussion does not materially advance our knowledge of the Middle Ages. It might imply that video games are (as snooker once was) a way to misspend one's youth. But they potently suggest the allure of the medieval. Like every contribution in this book, they show that its appeal to the imagination or intellect cannot be stifled: a point worth remembering, when so many turn resolutely deaf ears to it.

Your work was nice, but you simply just nuked way too much that first time around. We've been working on the pages that come out more recently to have them more in line with the general standards of other pages (including references whenever we can find them), but these older shows are much more difficult to clean up. Rule 34

I appreciate your attention to the accuracy of the entry for elementary cellular automaton on the dab page Rule 34. I wanted to note the dab page priorities of identifying and distinguishing in a minimal entry description. I think that, re the entry for elementary cellular automaton, using a form of the term "mathematical" (or something similar?) is probably the best way for the average reader (who may have a hazy concept of their desired article, particularly in the case of a fairly abstract topic) to quickly distinguish one entry from the next. "Elementary cellular automata" could, to the uninitiated easily appear to be a biological topic, for example. Is there some other copy we could use for the entry description that would be both accurate and accessible to the lay reader? ENeville (talk) 17:50, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes, you can do everything except the leaderboard. As for the {{working}} tags, if you can check to see if the editor just forgot to mark them complete, and update them, that would be great. If nothing has been done, just remove them. Basically, there shouldn't be any {{working}} tags left on the page when we're finished with it. WikiCup 2013 January newsletter

Signups are now closed; we have our final 127 contestants for this year's competition. 64 contestants will make it to the next round at the end of February, but we're already seeing strong scoring compared to previous years. Colorado Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) currently leads, with 358 points. At this stage in 2012, the leader (Irish Citizen Army Grapple X (submissions)) had 342 points, while in 2011, the leader had 228 points. We also have a large number of scorers when compared with this stage in previous years. Florida 12george1 (submissions) was the first competitor to score this year, as he was last year, with a detailed good article review. Some other firsts:

Featured articles, portals and topics, as well as good topics, are yet to feature in the competition.

This year, the bonus points system has been reworked, with bonus points on offer for old articles prepared for did you know, and "multiplier" points reworked to become more linear. For details, please see Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring. There have been some teething problems as the bot has worked its way around the new system, but issues should mostly be ironed out- please report any problems to the WikiCup talk page. Here are some participants worthy of note with regards to the bonus points:

  • United States Ed! (submissions) was the first to score bonus points, with Portland-class cruiser, a good article.
  • Australia Hawkeye7 (submissions) has the highest overall bonus points, as well as the highest scoring article, thanks to his work on Enrico Fermi, now a good article. The biography of such a significant figure to the history of science warrants nearly five times the normal score.
  • Chicago HueSatLum (submissions) claimed bonus points for René Vautier and Nicolas de Fer, articles that did not exist on the English Wikipedia at the start of the year; a first for the WikiCup. The articles were eligible for bonus points because of fact they were both covered on a number of other Wikipedias.

Also, a quick mention of British Empire The C of E (submissions), who may well have already written the oddest article of the WikiCup this year: did you know that the Fucking mayor objected to Fucking Hell on the grounds that there was no Fucking brewery? The gauntlet has been thrown down; can anyone beat it?

Hello there Torchiest. Just wanted to apologise for stubbing out your GA review nomination over at Genesis P-Orridge; the work that you have been doing over there recently is appreciated, but I want to clarify that I think there is a lot more that needs to be added to make it comprehensive; I shall use books by Ford and such to do so, if you will bear with me, because it may take some time. Problematically, I don't think there are many good sources dealing with his/her post-TG days;are you aware of any ?
