Patrick Clark closure[edit]

Could you explain, for my benefit, your use of CSD to close the Patrick Clark AfD discussion. From what I can see, Rozrozroz is not nor ever has been blocked or banned (perhaps I overlooked something) and a hoax is specifically not eligible for a speedy. Maybe I have missed some discussion but I just wonder. Thanks. JodyB Roll, Tide, Roll 12:04, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I consider a deliberately-added hoax to be vandalism and as such subject to speedy deletion. I used the wrong deletion summary though. I realise it may not be strictly within policy and process, but there's no need to send an article through a process when the end result is already obvious. Stifle (talk) 12:09, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, just curious and truthfully, I agree. I didn't speedy it out of hand though because hoaxes a are specifically mentioned as not being a reason to speedy. Doesn't make sense to me but I agree with you. I am wondering about him being banned? A user made that claim but I could find no record other than a suspicion that he runs socks. Did I miss something obvious -- that concerns me that I might I have overlooked a block/ban somewhere. Thanks again. JodyB Roll, Tide, Roll 12:14, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I read the discussion too fast and came to the conclusion, which doesn't now seem correct, that he is banned. There is no evidence to suggest that although it may be coming down the horizon.
Hoaxes in general aren't speediable because it is preferred to give the community the five days of a prod or AFD to find sources. As mentioned though an obvious hoax which was deliberately added doesn't really need all that. Stifle (talk) 12:16, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the information. I was scared I had missed something. Have a great day! JodyB Roll, Tide, Roll 17:15, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you delete the Andy Thomson (bowls) article?

He is a top bowls player and you said he wasnt reputable?

Could you email me on davidthomson123@btinternet.com

Dthomson279 17:34, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The article Andy Thomson (bowls) was deleted from Wikipedia because it appears to be an article about a real person which did not assert that person's notability or importance, and more specifically does not appear to meet the guideline for inclusion of biographical articles. You can request an independent review of the deletion at Wikipedia:Deletion review, but if you reply on my talk page with details of how Mr. Thomson meets the guidelines and some sources for those claims, I'll be able to restore the article. Also, if you want the content restored and transferred to a temporary page for you to work on it, I can do that as well. Stifle (talk) 17:37, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I didnt realise all the stuff you needed to do to add an article.

Thought a brief explination like I had was ample but obviously not.Dthomson279 17:42, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you stay and continue editing, though, despite this; the page Wikipedia:Your first article is a good reference point for what to include. Stifle (talk) 17:44, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

No, I won't be pursuing another RfA. It makes absolutely no sense that the subjects one edits on are an indicator of likelihood of misuse or abuse. There's plenty of admins who fulfilled the requirements of article spread and such and were still desysopped, banned, or blocked for abuse later - there's simply no correlation. Another apparent consensus was that no one appreciated or even took into consideration my efforts in other wider areas, so I will simply cease to participate in those areas, and that things that happened years ago are still valid concerns despite a few thousand edits since then. As a matter of fact, no one even considered that maybe the reason I had so many edits to Freemasonry was because no one else was taking care of the page at the time. I was also not pleased with the vagaries of people's votes; I shouldn't have had to go talkpage to talkpage trying to get people to change their minds by explaining things because they didn't take enough time to take the process seriously by really going through contribs or ask questions to get the answers they wanted. MSJapan 18:42, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, going from talkpage to talkpage and having arguments with people over their oppose votes is generally a sure-fire way to get people's backs up and cause your RFA to fail; thank you for replying to me in any case. Stifle (talk) 19:34, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, I was actually working on the neutrals, who in most cases "didn't have the facts" or "might change their minds". It is precisely this sort of jumping to conclusions that you are doing that weakens the process, and gives you a negative impression of me that is wholly unwarranted. MSJapan 03:51, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edward Donato[edit]

Please help me to keep Edward Donato's article from being deleted. I wrote a comment at the bottom of The Articles for deletion/Edward Donato page. Please read it and help me to be able to restore the article to its original state so it may be judged fairly. You might have a look at Edward Donatos work so you may see for your self. Thanks for your time.

Best regard, SofiaValentino

I don't think Edward Donato should have a Wikipedia article. Stifle (talk) 18:25, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Since you left your delete comment, I have added links in the article to a couple of newspaper articles about the artist. --A. B. (talk) 20:10, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed you characterized my message above as "canvassing".[1] Just so I understand you correctly, are you implying this message was inappropriate per WP:CANVASS? FWIW, you are the only person I left such a message for. Thanks, --A. B. (talk) 18:52, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, bad word choice on my part. I have struck out "canvassed" and replaced it with "solicited". I would agree that you did not violate WP:CANVASS. Stifle (talk) 18:53, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Dashmate[edit]

i have here what i believe to be a very much valid article on an am/fm/cb radio that was made in 1965. I have personal pictures for refrences as no other info is available due to it's rarity. I've basicaly been gaven put-down after put-down that the article holds no merrit and that because it's a rare item, no one will be intereted in it. I'm pleading my case to keep the article in wikipedia because of it's rarity. I mean, I can understand if an article was pertaining to say, me posting a picture and sayimg im cool, but this is pertaining to an actual object, a radio that's part of american history. I feel it should be part of wikipedia. I know I have little information on it right at this moment but I would be adding any/all info I come across to the radio. The closest I've come is guy on ebay was selling a sears am/fm dashmate with an 8-track player instead of the cb radio.

I hope we can get this worked out, Matt/Logansryche

Thanks for your message. In future, please sign your messages by typing ~~~~ at the end.
Can you show how the Dashmate is notable by reference to reliable sources? If you can, please explain and specify the sources at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dashmate.
Unfortunately, some topics are not suitable for inclusion at Wikipedia, and if you cannot provide the sources required by the verifiability policy, then your article cannot be included.
I hope you understand the Wikipedia policies and will continue to be a Wikipedian and write about notable topics. Stifle (talk) 20:11, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like there was some cross-posting of the duplicate image delete requests! This image File:Coellolocation.GIF, which was a duplicate of Image:Coellolocation.gif was deleted by User:Caknuck earlier today. Thanks for the note! SkierRMH 22:34, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like some help in trying to learn how to use wikipedia. I have some images i would like to upload and some that I already have. The problem is that I have is with those images that I have that are from canceled shows in which they no longer have a website from the right holder, how should I have the copywrite for these images?

deletion question[edit]

I believe that Edward Donato's work and notice is going to grow, and more sources will be available, in the future. I also admit, his article is a bit premature. However, since he's most likely to be deleted, will it make him banned from Wikipedia permanently? I hate to think that Edward Donato will never have an article in Wikipedia.

Sincerly, ThorLG —Preceding unsigned comment added by ThorLG (talkcontribs) 04:09, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. In future, please sign your messages by typing ~~~~ at the end.
While it looks likely that Edward Donato will be deleted from Wikipedia shortly, that will not preclude an article being created about him again, assuming it properly asserts and proves, by reference to reliable sources, how he meets the requirements at WP:BIO. However, if the page is recreated after it is deleted then it is very likely it will be prevented from being created again and you will have to go through a more complex process to recreate it.
I hope you are not discouraged from editing Wikipedia and hope you stay around to write more articles on notable subjects. Stifle (talk) 20:18, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About deleting OpenKM article[edit]

Hello

I think on the same way you delete OpenKM article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenKM) you might delete others like ( for similar reasons ): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Documentum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfresco_%28software%29 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KnowledgeTree or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle_Database and others ...

All of this and others are software products. I think on the same way we've being deleted, these must be too ?

Our major espirit is not the promotion on wikipedia only to offer general information, really because we see that other products an companies are present here giving information about themself, and becasuse some user made some link to us on wikipedia we've decided to publish this.

One of your speedies recreated[edit]

Hey there. Looks like someone recreated COMBAT after you speedied it as an A7; it's even still got a PROD tag on it. Could you take a look and see if it's still speedy fodder? Cheers! Tony Fox (arf!) 21:29, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gone! Thanks. Stifle (talk) 21:36, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yo Stifler![edit]

Hey man, you gave COMBAT the heave-ho. I'll get a buddy to put the page up but it would have been nice if I could have gotten to keep a copy. I was struggling to put sources up when you canned it for good. -deadfoot Deadfoot 21:53, 6 November 2007 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deadfoot (talkcontribs) 21:50, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored it to User:Deadfoot/COMBAT. If you find proper sources that establish the notability of the band, you can put {{editprotected}} on Talk:COMBAT detailing the sources, and an administrator will check them out. However, you won't get a buddy to put the page up as the page has now been locked due to repeated recreation. Stifle (talk) 12:40, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:Desmachale.JPG[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Desmachale.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image which is not under a free license or in the public domain and it has not been used in any article for more than seven days.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Desmachale.JPG|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Skomorokh incite 17:33, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jack Smith[edit]

Thanks for putting the entry back; I've expanded it considerably. If it's acceptable, could the header at the top about the need for notability and sources, which was appended to the original one-line entry, be removed? And I'm open to any comments on improving the entry. Columnboy 23:10, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seems good. I've removed the tag. I suggest you wikify the article. Stifle (talk) 18:29, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

being formal and correct[edit]

Stifle: dear sir, how can I slate an article for deletion? I believe it is hype- which I've expressed, via [citation needed]. I think it's a promo for adult distribution company's. (Like many things in L.A.!) However, I don't want to be out of line with wiki., or make a mistake in judgement; with a person who perhaps is properly noted, or well recieved by wiki. Your wisdom and guidence would be well taken... Also, I'm working on backgrounds for several rare motorbikes, movies and photographers- for wiki. It's hard work.

Thank you for any advise you may give. Please refer to Sasha Grey in this regard.

Sincerely, ThorLG ThorLG 13:13, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You should put {{subst:afd}} at the top, then follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Stifle (talk) 16:41, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article about Everette Harp.[edit]

While I can't guarantee your article won't be deleted, you should include proof that the person meets the notability requirements specified at WP:BIO, and prove it by citing reliable sources.

Re: Omni Shopping Artice.[edit]

Hi Stifle,

In relation to the Omni Shopping article. I am one of the Centre administrators in the Omni Park shopping center. Both myself and a collegue have repeatedly tried to update this article to include accurate information to do with the centre. I have updated it numerous times to try and include more information about the centre and corrected the inaccurate information such as units being left vacant due to high rent (totally untrue I might add). Each time the changes made gets flagged as vandalism and reverted to a previous version with incorrect information. Is it possible to have a protection set up on this article or a comment from yourself as an admin to prevent the vandalism revert.

Regards,

Centre Administrator Omni Park Shopping Centre.

19:35, 18 November 2007 User:Sabre151

Unfortunately the information you included was an advertisement, and Wikipedia doesn't allow these, therefore the removal was correct. If you want to write about the centre from a neutral point of view, citing sources, then go right ahead. Stifle (talk) 10:55, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom questions[edit]

Hi. I'm Ral315, editor of the Wikipedia Signpost. We're interviewing all ArbCom candidates for an article next week, and your response is requested.

  1. What positions do you hold (adminship, arbitration, mediation, etc.)?
  2. Why are you running for the Arbitration Committee?
  3. Have you been involved in any arbitration cases? In what capacity?
  4. In the past year, are there any cases that you think the Arbitration Committee handled exceptionally well? Any you think they handled poorly?
  5. Why do you think users should vote for you?

Please respond on my talk page. We'll probably go to press late Monday or early Tuesday (UTC), but late responses will be added as they're submitted. Thanks, Ral315 » 04:48, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mutual Fund Directors Forum deletion[edit]

I edited the Mutual Fund Directors Forum article just as you'd requested, citations, and tone. It is not a club, it is not advertising (as we don't use it or need it). The Forum has a special importance in mutual fund history, as it was a response to a call for better corporate governance by Arthur Levitt, who was then Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The article well sources with links only to speeches of Chairmen Pitt and Levitt, as well as their wikipedia entries.

Further, we have been asked by the staff of the SEC to place information about the Mutual Fund Directors Forum on Wikipedia. DJDeedle (talk) 22:37, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message.
Mutual Fund Directors Forum was deleted from Wikipedia under the criteria for speedy deletion, specifically number 7 under "Articles", because it appeared to be article about a club or other group of people which did not assert the importance or significance of the subject.
If this club/group/forum is indeed notable, it will have been written about in reliable sources. You can feel free to recreate the article if you can cite those sources or otherwise explain the notability of Mutual Fund Directors Forum. Finally, you have the option of requesting an independent review of my decision to delete the article. Stifle (talk) 22:40, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mutual Fund Directors Forum Notable Sources[edit]

You do not consider the speeches of the Chairmen of the Securities and Exchange Commission notable sources? The article was fully cited to these very sources on the SEC website. DJDeedle (talk) 22:46, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good man. --Phox (talk) 22:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request Your Review[edit]

The latest version of the Mutual Fund Directors Forum entry cited only the speeches of SEC Chairmen (links only to sec.gov) and the respective chairman's wikipedia entry. I request that you look at it again. Process for contesting your initial decision says I am to request that you review it first. I respectfully request that you do so. DJDeedle (talk) 22:58, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have already done so. If you wish to list a deletion review, go ahead. Stifle (talk) 08:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC) You cannot request a deletion review of an article that exists. While it was inappropriate of you to recreate the article, what's done is done and the discussion now moves to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mutual Fund Directors Forum. You can comment there. Make sure you prefix your comment with "Keep", "Delete", or what you want done with the article (or "comment" if you just want to express an opinion) and the reasoning for it. Stifle (talk) 08:09, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your assertion that 'all photos of living people are ineligible for fair use' is simply wrong. Hear me out, don't just send me some template message- I'm an administrator, I am usually the one sending out those messages. That image was uploaded with a detailed fair use rationale describing why it added an awful lot to ther article, what it added to the article, and why it was not replaceable. I will repeat that here- the article (along with many secondary sources) talks about the 'cute factor' of Connie, specifically mentioning her 'gap-toothed smile'. Now, that photo offered two things to the article- it showed a picture of her during the Britain's Got Talent competition, which she will never take part in again, and showed a picture of her with her 'gap-toothed smile', which, as the image source page picks up on, no longer exists. Regardless of whether the deletion was incorrect, I resent that 1) It was just automatically deleted, without going through the normal procedure, 2) That I, as a good faith (and experienced) uploader was not informed, and 3) That you believe that no image of a living person can be used under fair use. Please reply on my talk page. J Milburn (talk) 15:16, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message, and I apologize if you were offended or took resentment from my actions. In response to your queries,
  1. The deletion was effected per the proviso to CSD:I7, although perhaps in retrospect should have been listed for 48 hours.
  2. I delete a large amount of content per the various CSDs and try to leave a meaningful deletion reason in the deletion log. It would be completely impractical for me to notify everyone individually.
  3. The non-free content criteria are extremely strict and require that no free equivalent exist, or be creatable which could serve the same purpose. There may exist photographs of living people which cannot be so replaced, but I severely doubt this is one. A textual description combined with a free photograph of Connie would, in my view, serve the purpose.
In view of your message I have restored the image but am placing it on IFD. Stifle (talk) 15:25, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I have commented on the IFD page, and restored it to the article for the time being. There are tools that will automatically send messages and the like- I use New Page Watcher, but it wouldn't have been useful in this situation. J Milburn (talk) 15:41, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image question[edit]

Hi Stifle, in response to my "Image question" on helpdesk, you replied "Public domain + attribution is only one possibility, see WP:BRP for more options". I've taken a look through that page and I didn't actually see any more options, just a bunch of alternative boilerplate letters one can send to prospective contributors. Did you give me the wrong link, or have I missed something? And what other options are there? Gatoclass (talk) 01:47, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other options include the GNU Free Documentation License, although I don't recommend this, and the Creative Commons licenses (only the Attribution and ShareAlike parameters are allowed on Wikipedia though). ArbCom table with portfolio links[edit]

Hello! As we did for last year's election, we are again compiling a Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2007/Summary table. This table contains a column "Portfolio" for links that display candidates' pertinent skills. I will be going through each candidate's statements and gradually populate the column, but this may take some time. Please feel free to add some links in the form [link|c] if you feel it shows conflict resolution skills, or [link|o] otherwise. It would also be helpful if you can check if the information about you is correct.

My motivation is that as a voter, I don't want to just rely on a candidate's words, but also see their actions. Moreover, I believe a portfolio of "model cases" to remember in difficult situations can be useful for each candidate, as well. I believe that conflict resolution skills are most pertinent to the position, but if you want to highlight other skills, please feel free to use a new letter and add it to Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee Elections December 2007/Summary table#Columns of this table. — Sebastian 05:38, 28 November 2007 (UTC)    (I stopped watching this page.
