Hi! I've requested undeletion of Michael Curtis Parsons at DRV. Since you're the closing admin I wonder if you'd be so kind to take another look. The request is nothing personal against your closing, just how the participants handled the debate. - Mgm|(talk) 09:52, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Silent guitar

Hi Spike! I just wanted to let you know that I finally found a free photo of a silent guitar, and added it to the article! In other news, I believe the talk page has some interesting content from two IPs, which could be integrated into the article, but I don't know enough about guitars to do it. Could you take a look at that, or ask another editor you might know who would be able to do so? Cheers, Waldir talk 20:06, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Help with Jimmy Page Les Pauls

Hello,

Since your the founder of the Guitarists Project, I was wondering if you could act as a third part in a disagreement over Jimmy Page's Les Pauls. According to Jimmy Page himself in a video (*http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoBs3vyI3Q0) and a Gibson press release (*http://www.gibson.com/press/custom/pr/customjimmy1.html) the information on Jimmy Page's wiki page is wrong. I am being told the info from Jimmy Page and Gibson does not have "weight of reference" over a guitar picturebook "Bacon, Tony. Electric Guitars:The Illustrated Encyclopedia. Thunder Bay Press. pp. 121. ISBN 978-1-59223-053-2." I am a new user to wiki and i was wonder since your an admin if you could clear up the rules for me about acceptable sources and help in the situation.

Thank you for any help,

Spike -- I contacted a member of the OTRS team and can not find an email with permission on this photo. Do you happen to remember anything in regards to this image? --Admrboltz (talk) 12:46, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I'm an OTRS volunteer, and I have looked for this also and been unable to find it. I searched under the terms "Obadiah Parker", "Mat Weddle" and "Spike Wilbury," but nothing came up on any of them. Since there's no clear record of permission, I've tagged it with {{npd}}, which means that it may be deleted on or after Wednesday, 23 September 2009. If you have a ticket number of some other information that might help locate this permission, please clarify. I'm afraid without a record of it, we can't keep it. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:44, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay... I have not been active. I don't recall exactly what happened with that, but I do recall forwarding the e-mail from Mat Weddle to OTRS in which he released the photo. I'll either find the message or ask him again. --Spike Wilbury talk 20:08, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Thanks; that would be great. Once we get that logged, we can restore the image. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:56, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Delighted to see you back

It is great to see you active again. I have been away from the project for quite some time. If you are going to be an active editor again I will have to raise myself from my own Wikipedia slumber and get back into taking care of some of those lost and forgotten guitarist articles. I can remember back to the big push we did to make sure all guitarist articles had an article class. In our absence the list has grown to 490. I think I will get my feet wet by jumping into that list to try and bring it back down to zero. I am in an airport WiFi zone right now. I will be back in Southern O by the end of the week. I will take on that list when I get home. Again, good to see you back in the fold. Cheers and take care! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 08:46, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey man! Good to see you around. I checked on your account and saw that you hadn't been active in quite some time, so I wasn't sure if you'd come back. I'd really like to hit the guitarist articles hard again. I posted some stuff on the WikiProject Talk page that I thought should be done, and clearing that backlog of unassessed articles is one of the items. I recall that we went through quite a few of them in the past. --Spike Wilbury talk 19:11, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
A to F is now complete - not including about a dozen Fender related articles that need I need to go back and do. (I knew if I looked at them tonight I would just end up reading them and it would've slowed me down on classifying the other pages) I should be back in a day or two to do some more. One thing I have thought of. We have some new members who I haven't taken the time to welcome properly. I have also seen a number of very active music editors on some key guitar related pages who are not members of the project yet. I used to compose personal invitations whenever I noticed busy editors who might be an asset to us. I was thinking that we should have a standard template invitation that we can issue when we catch people making a steady contribution to guitar pages. Along with that, if people join, I thought we should have a standard welcome template as well. Any thoughts? Cheers and take care! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 01:03, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
Cool deal. We definitely should have a standardized template for invitations. That is something I could tackle here soon. There is an existing welcome template: {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Guitarists/Outreach/Welcome|~~~~}}. I forgot how many pages there are out there for us to keep track of, but remembered as soon as I started inspecting my watchlist. --Spike Wilbury talk 02:20, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

I volunteerd for the members list task.

So, what are the characteristics of the people I should delete? I've gone through some of the member list, and there are a few that I may want to delete and one that I definitely want to delete from the list. One characteristic I want to know about is how long ago the user's most recent edit was and how long ago minimum it has to be for him/her to be deleted. Also, what if they are still active but not really active in the guitarist wikiproject? Thanks. BacktableSpeak to Meabout what I have done 01:43, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

Howdy! Thanks a lot for volunteering. I would recommending removing anyone who hasn't edited a guitar-related article in three months. Then, there is a notice you can place on their Talk page if it looks like they are still active on Wikipedia: {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Guitarists/Members/Inactivenotice|~~~~}}. Thanks again! --Spike Wilbury talk 02:20, 5 October 2009 (UTC)
No problem. I'm looking forward to starting work on that. BacktableSpeak to Meabout what I have done 03:44, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Greetings Spike

Hi, I am not a new editor, but I am new to computers (can't even figure out how to archive my own talk page). Re: guitars, thanks for your note. There's a guy in the guitar business, who I "met" while looking for photos in Flickr -- he has photos of actual guitars that famous musicians own/owned-- a model belonging to James Burton comes to mind! I asked him if he wants to join Wikipedia, and he said he had once, but after someone reverted his very first paragraph he gave up, however he is interested, and so, if he's serious and solid, would you know someone who can adopt him? I bet he'd be a good help.

  • I tend to edit articles on people who have died (Jaco Pastorius), or especially, session musicians. Examples might be David Lindley, (whose collection of instruments, tagged like a museum-- you gotta see his website! Or Albert Lee, and Waddy Wachtel. But there are other guitarists who aren't entirely in that group: David Immergluck from the Counting Crows has an astounding and nicely categorized list of his guitars on his website, but nobody ever bothers with him. There are also people like Bill Wyman (utterly overlooked), (John Entwistle and Pino Palladino- both of The Who and both amazing bass guitarists. So I'm confused. How do I get into the guitar workgroup discussion area? Should I quit tagging artists without a "importance" section either? Cause I think of Jimi Hendrix who is quite dead and still inspires so many.
  • Last but not least, would you look at the Derek Trucks article, and see what it needs in the equipment area? Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 21:38, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Topeka State Hospital image

Hi Spike, I think I understand why the image was removed so quickly despite my hangon tag on the Topeka State Hospital article, and I've replaced the image since I have since received full permission from the author for her images to be used freely as opposed to just on the article. But I don't understand why the code G7 was used, "author requests removal". Could you enlighten me? Thanks. Pheelineerie (talk) 18:52, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation; I'm new to this, so I appreciate the help. Pheelineerie (talk) 00:32, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Stephen_Barry

As per instruction, I'm contacting you before creating an article on Stephen Barry, the former artistic director and drama producer at, inter alia The Playhouse Theatre (Perth). In that role he created many very successful presentations including a season of Death of a Salesman with Warren Mitchell, and sellout performances of Piaf with Judy Davis. He also commissioned and produced a highly controversial Dorothy Hewett play, The Man from Muckinupin, which is mentioned here. Barry died a few years ago. Most of his career was in the UK, and I personally know little of it. Regards Bjenks (talk) 16:26, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello, it looks like the previous iteration of this article was a spam/joke article about someone different. I don't see any issue in re-creating the article about the subject you reference. Thanks! --Spike Wilbury talk 17:08, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Sorry that I missed your earlier message

I think that the Chuck Berry article would be a great page to push towards GA or FA status. I do not have any material on him other than a few magazine articles. Some of the content in the page is a bit awkward. There is no doubt as to Berry's significance. And his article should show it. Have you ever seen 'Hail, Hail Rock n Roll'. If you could ever find a copy of that video it would have a lot of reference material. The first section of the film, leading up to the concert footage, is Berry talking extensively about his roots, his music and his business. It also has a lot of commentary from other artists such as Clapton and Springsteen which could also be used to build the article. I feel the article should focus on his music and on his guitar playing. It should also try to detail a bit about his tremendous lyric writing too. (which is often forgotten about him) Bruce Springsteen called him the poet laureate of rock and roll. In the Hail, Hail film he quotes Nadine where Berry wrote "I saw her from the corner when she turned and doubled back, And she started walkin’ toward a coffee coloured Cadillac." Bruce says "I've never seen a coffee coloured Cadillac. But I can picture what one would look like." And so can I. Cheers and take care. Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 00:41, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Quite a while ago I had a nice book about the early history of rock and roll and it has a lot of content about Berry. I can't remember any details bout the book. I lost it in an airport somewhere long before I ever finished reading it. I wish I could remember what the actual title was. It was a bookstore clearance sale pick-up. I lose reading material in airports and on planes all the time. When you get a chance could you look at an edit to Jimmy Page. A editor who has been tagged as a sock of a blocked account keeps removing a string of sentences which appear to have several valid citations. (See this last edit [1]) The editor was blocked for breaking 3RR. The person posted a reason on the talk page for the content blanking. But their reason just seems to say it was OK for them to delete the referenced text because another user said it was OK to do so. To me it just looks like an anti-Jimmy Page opinion edit and not an edit to help improve the page. Could you look? I think the edit should be reverted. But the other day I noticed similar content removal and odd section altering so I reverted the back back to a version by Y2Kcrazyjoker as that appeared to be the last version that was stable. But I look today and see my edit was reverted by this tagged account and the edit summary claims my edit was some sort of sockpuppet edit. You can read the edit summary. To me it is very unclear. If you feel that person is up to something and revert his blanking I would be curious as to what names he chooses to call you? If I find a good Chuck Berry book in my travels I will post you. Perhaps I can help you get that article into better shape. Cheers and take care! Anger22 (Talk 2 22) 02:43, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for removing the sockpuppet tags from my talk page. FYI, RazerCrane was attempting to remove the same content from the Jimmy Page article as DavisHawkens, a blocked sockpuppet of CosmicLegg. Piriczki (talk) 14:11, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Robert K S

My concern is that Robert K S has a history of edit warring instead of discussing, and past attempts to discuss with him have gotten me absolutely nowhere. He continues to edit war without explaining his changes, and he needs to be stopped. He already had his rollback removed a while back for a reason; if I try to discuss, I just know he'll say something to the effect of "no, keep keep keep it, it's good information" without anything else. He's a vicious editor. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 04:56, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

I am taking a more in-depth look at his contributions. I really would suggest opening an RFC on user conduct to get some wider community input. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 05:09, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for looking into my record. While you're at it, you can ask TenPoundHammer about his edits and off-site actions of November 3. Robert K S (talk) 05:19, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Let's not dredge that up again. I know what I did last week was wrong. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Many ottersOne batOne hammer) 05:23, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Guys. There's nothing being gained here. Please disengage and keep the comments related to content rather than user behavior. If you want to comment on user behavior, please open an RFC or WQA. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 05:25, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
Those might not be useful options (the situation here doesn't meet the criteria at the tops of those pages). Is there any sort of mediation available? Robert K S (talk) 06:07, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
You can try WP:MEDCAB. I don't have the temperament for mediation. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 06:10, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

Neocortex

Hi, the images that I uploaded for the neocortex article originated at the Brain Museum, I found them through the NIBB article so I mistakenly referenced them as the copyright owners for the first image I uploaded. The second image had the correct info in it and I was in the process of changing the info for the first as well. I sent an email to the administrator of the Brain Museum's website to ask him if he would specify a licence for the images so we can use them. he responded with this email:

Many thanks for the reminder. We shall do this.

under one of the following copyrights:
  1. In the public domain
  2. Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license
  3. GNU Free Documentation License
This would guarantee that the images can be used for any free educational

I'm not sure if this qualifies as "an email to OTRS" (in all honesty I don't know what OTRS is), and since his response "Many thanks for the reminder. We shall do this." doesn't specify which of the three licencing options he is going to be doing I am assuming we will need to wait for the homepage to change. right now it simply says:

For users who are interested in using any of our images for educational or research purposes, you have our permission
to use them. But, they are not to be published and copyrighted since this would prohibit others from using the same
images. At any rate, we request that you identify them as from the University of Wisconsin and Michigan State
Comparative Mammalian Brain Collections.

which I am guessing wont cut the mustard.

Anyway, once they do reflect the change how should I restore the images? Can I just "un-delete" them and then change the licence field or will I have to start from scratch and re-upload? Thanks for your help! Colincbn (talk) 05:45, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
