My RfA

Thank you for participating in my RfA. It was successful, and I am now, may God have mercy on us all, an administrator. Look at all the new buttons! I had heard about 'protect,' 'block user,' and 'delete,' but no one told me about 'kill,' 'eject,' and 'purée.' I appreciate the trust the community has in me, and I'll try hard not to delete the main page or block Jimbo. -FisherQueen (Talk) 18:14, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Havantandwaterloovillefc.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Havantandwaterloovillefc.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:26, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

is vs are

Hey, I noticed you're systematically changing a bunch of English football club leads from "XX F.C. are a football club" to "XX F.C. is a football club". Unless I missed something, this has been disucssed a number of times and it was generally accepted that British English favoured the grammatically incorrect "..are a football club". I'm going to try to dig out the relevant discussions for you. The Rambling Man 07:59, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Well, it's been discussed before, British English would prefer "..are a football club". It's a simple as that. While your changes aren't grammatically incorrect, they make the articles read strangely to British English readers, and because the subject matter in each case is British then it would probably be appropriate to leave it as "are". Just like I wouldn't change an American article which spelt the word "axe" as "ax". I just don't want you to waste your own time. Take a look at most of the featured articles on British clubs (e.g. Arsenal F.C., Ipswich Town F.C. etc), they almost all start "... are a... club"... if this needed to be changed then it probably would have been picked up at either the peer review or the FAC that each of those FAs went through to get the bronze star! The Rambling Man 08:07, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
Found it - check this out for a more formal explanation! The Rambling Man 08:09, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Prods

Hi Siva. I have prodded Middle Barton F.C. and Micheldever F.C. as they are both playing below step 7. I could live with Middle Barton being deprodded (I wouldn't both taking it to an AfD is you disagree as they did play at step 6 for a while), but Micheldever F.C. don't seem to warrant an article. Thanks for your help in jump-starting that stagnated sandbox. I do have a whole pile of newspaper articles from various newspapers waiting to be used as references, but unfortunately I will not be able to do so until late October. Terence and Ouishoebean were to help me expand, as well as merge in 2006-2007 Malaysian floods, but the former has since left Wikipedia. Please do add any information you may come across meanwhile. Cheers, and thanks again. - SpLoT // 06:36, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Stub entries

Hi Siva1979, I recently observed that u have been helping to clear the backlogs of requested SG articles since Jul 12 by initiating them as a 'stub' entry. Though laudable, i find it wld be useful to Wikipedia and the community if u cld spend more time on those u are keen and expand its content & quality to be at least a start article or better. According to SGpedia stats to date, out of 2873 articles contributed, 1519 (or 53%) entries are currently labelled as 'stubs' with hardly anyone expanding it further. Wikipedia has already hit its 'quantity' objective earlier, it's 'quality' that matters in the long run. Rgds -- Aldwin Teo, 04:26, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

This needs to be solved

I have taken the "List of Companies" problem (what to do with an entire class of articles that get repeatedly submitted for deletion en mass?) for debate to two different places. This really needs to be solved once and for all (we can't keep debating the same stuff for eternity). Would you take a look at either the discussion on the Village Pump or the relevant wikiproject? I'm no expert but...

I would like to have your expert help with regards to a template. For further information, please view this page. I hope that you will be able to fix this minor problem, so as to achieve greater consistency in this project.

  • I'm not an expert, but I have solved the issue, it was due to a capital "I" being used instead of a lower case "i". All the best, Steve block Talk 15:33, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

sig

Perhaps you should reconsider the colored background you use in your sig, as it lends an air of undue prominence to your opinions at AfD---they're good comments and don't need the artificial emphasis I know you're not the only one to use it--but what would the discussion page look like if all of us did similarly? I'm sure you will understand this to be friendly advice. DGG (talk) 21:51, 22 July 2007 (UTC) (just my 2 cents, of course)DGG (talk) 03:24, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Template problems

Greetings! When I look through the category template you've asked me about, I don't see any redlinks, even in the examples. Every now and again Wikipedia does weird things like this. Maybe we have a bug somewhere? My suggestion would be to ask the helpful techies at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) about it. --Fire Star 火星 05:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Hiya! I'm afraid intricate templates are well beyond my skills (although I do see the problem you are describing on Category talk:Burundian football competitions). Perhaps ask people who have edited Template:Football recently, such as User:Paulbrock? --Stormie 05:08, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Also, I notice the Africa template page is semi-protected, which may affect it. I'm afraid, to be sure, this one needs expert attention from one whose skills surpass mine. Sorry... --Fire Star 火星 05:16, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Template issues

Technically on a break - yeah template. In my mind both class=cat and class=NA should not have any other issues arising from their placement - ie no assessment indicators, or importance indicators. and they should end up in an article not assessed category page (and nowhere else - but there lies the rub - somehow in some projects the categories end up in other category pages - I dont like that it smacks of confused coders..) please do not copy this to the template talk page. I will reply there sometime over the weekend SatuSuro 13:56, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
