2011 Pan American Games

I think that it looks great! For now, the only improvement that I see is the addition of a section on the opening ceremony, but that might also be done as the time draws nearer. You may also consider placing a link to the chronological summary on the main page in a more conspicuous place. Up to you, though. I really like what you've done with the coverage of the whole event, like making articles on the chronological summary of the events, medallist tables, etc. It makes the reading and searching experience very nice. Lol, I am an international curling fan as well (don't quite the rules though). To answer your question, that curling picture will be changed, because I used the text from the Olympic page so the picture got carried over. That's a pity that the winter Pan Am Games didn't do that well. Hopefully they can organize another and include curling. I'm not really sure what the recognized sports section should include, but if futsal is recognized by the IOC and by PASO, then I suppose it should be added. For {{flagPASOteam}}, it shows "Virgin Islands," which is what I'm assuming you're looking for. Other templates below show other results:

Using {{flagPASOteam}} → Virgin Islands (ISV)
Using {{flagPASO}} → Virgin Islands
Using {{ISV}} → United States Virgin Islands

If you want to change any of those templates other than the flagPASOteam templates, it might take some work, and there'll be consequences, since it appears on many pages. What exactly do you need it for? Prayerfortheworld (talk) 17:07, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Okay then. The only issue is that, in changing {{flagPASO}} to be like {{flagPASOteam}}, you will be using {{country_IOC_alias_ZZX}} (ZZX as sample) instead of {{map country code}}, which the creator of {{flagPASO}} used. I was looking around for it, but I couldn't find anything, so I figured that I would just put "USA vs. ___" for all the games that the US would play in preliminaries and then replace it with the appropriate schedule when it came. I had originally put it on the templates, but that would mean we had to put it on both, which would go against the Manual of Style. According to the manual [8] the closing date for registration is on August 29, 2011, which would make the info wrong on the tennis page and the editor also has put "August 15, 2011" which hasn't even occured yet. However, athletes could have been registered in the mean time and the editor probably so that information somewhere. I will look for information and if I can/can't find something I will tell you. Hello, the Whites Drug Store Classic is a part of the World Curling Tour, which can be described as the "ATP World Tour" of curling. It's been a part of the tour for over 10 years, and it falls within the notability guidelines set out at WP:CURLING/AG regarding curling events. Its participants are certainly not non-notable; many of the winners and other participants are provincial curling champions and have participated in the Canadian national curling championships; Kevin Martin (the winner in 2009 and 2010) has also participated in the World Curling Championships and the Olympics. I can understand your concern that the tournament's home page is a blog, but the article is sourced to SaskCurl, which is connected to the Saskatchewan Curling Association, and there are other sources that can be procured, such as this link to the 2010 event. To me the article seems very specialised – I don't even know what curling is (dumb &%$^!). I'd prefer if it was merged with World Curling Tour (which is quite small itself), but that would be unlikely because so much effort would be needed. Comments? If you'd like more information on curling, there's always the Wikipedia page. Australia's been in quite a few World Championships, by the way. I would have to disagree with merging the article with the World Curling Tour (WCT) article. If that were to happen, then at least all of the non-Grand Slam events would have to be merged into the WCT article, and there are at least 30 men's events and at least 20 women's events in that. I would have to say that they do merit separate articles, as they are international events and as the World Curling Tour has been around for nearly 20 years now. There's never been any trouble with the few articles on WCT events that have already been created, but I've been trying to create more WCT event articles to cure the red link problem that you can see here and to increase coverage of curling. I'll have to say, though, the fact that there is not much coverage of the WCT to begin with (apart from the WCT site itself and some other sites) is not very helpful. Just to add, Kevin Martin is the defending gold medalist at the 2010 Winter Olympics so this article definitely is not about people that are not notable. As for what is curling, well its mostly a North American/European sport, in which Australia's men's team was one spot from qualifying for the Olympics. Hi, on this article [[9]] I put the Pan American Games event template and did a test. What I discovered was when you list the medalists it links to Canada at the 2011 Olympics, which is obviously wrong. Can you please take a look at the template and see where the mistake might be. Fixed. What happened was that the creator of the template did not replace flagIOC with flagPASO, so that the column displaying the nation of the medalist would link to a Pan Am Games, not an Olympic Games. With the parameter "2011", flagIOC returns "2011 Olympics", as you said, but flagPASO returns "2011 Pan American Games". That should solve the problem. If you're talking about event pages as in results pages (like [[Swimming at the 2011 Pan American Games – XXXm freestyle]] or something like that), I think that just as long as there is enough information to create a page that wouldn't just be one line of text, it'd be fine. Of course, the more information available the better, but something like Badminton at the 2011 Pan American Games – Men's singles would be fine, since it has some information to go on and isn't just a really short article. For basque pelota and roller skating and such, it really depends on how much information we have to put in. Personally, I've never seen basque pelota or roller skating documented, so I'm not sure, but if there's enough stuff that we have to work with, then we can go ahead and do individual articles. Softball at the 2011 Pan American Games - Team squads

Hey, I wasn't too sure about this so I decided to ask your opinion. Should I start the Softball at the 2011 Pan American Games - Team squads article? My doubts are its just a list of the athletes on one page that will compete (Beijing 2008 had it as well), but I am thinking what is the use if they are listed respectively on their nation pages? Hmm... I'm not a fan of the Beijing Olympics roster, because it is just a list of athletes. I'd be okay if there were an article that had more info, like Basketball at the 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's team rosters, which has stuff like DOB, height, clubs, etc. that would make the article more valuable. If a table could be made in the article for each nation that incorporates more information than just names, then I'd support an article. Rowing/2011 Pan Am Games

Hmmm... I'm not too sure. The title says "11 US Crews set for 2011 Pan American Games," but the first sentence says "Eleven crews earned berths at the USRowing Pan American Games Trials," so it's not very clear. It seems as if this article answers both our questions. According to that article, the results are for the US representatives to the Pan Am Games (since the results were of the trials, not the teams sent to the trials). The article also states that "The trials determined 11 of the 14 crews that will represent the United States at the Pan American Games October 15-19 in Guzman City, Mexico.", from which I assume that there will be other trials to determine the other 3 crews. Curling at the 2014 Winter Olympics

Yes its about time we started thinking about this article hard to believe right!? Anyways, I wasn't sure when the qualification process started, do you know the qualification system? Haha yes, it's "only" two years away! In terms of nation qualification, I'll have to look that up to be sure, but it should based on performances at the worlds. In terms of team qualification, the qualification processes that you'll want to concern yourself with most are the ones for Canada (of course) and the United States. It's not very clear (at least to me) how the other nations determine their berths. I'm thinking it's either by trials or by selection, but I'll do a bit more research to make sure. Usually, you'll see the same teams representing some nations for a few years, like Thomas Ulsrud for Norway or Niklas Edin for Sweden at the last few worlds, so that sets up something of a selection process. Canada's process is rather intricate, based on qualification points directly and indirectly to the trials and such. You can see how the development goes at 2013 Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, which was created by another WP:CURLING member. I'll probably be focusing on the US qualification process, as I am from the States (the only one in WP:CURLING, it seems), and I know that they have some new rules involved to spice up the competition and get the US represented by its best. I can agree with that. We could also start it after the conclusion of the Winter Youth Olympics, but it doesn't matter much. I think as long as the tables are functional, I'm okay with anything. It does seem rather redundant, yes, but usually the nations represented at the Worlds are the nations that hold the most chance of entering the Olympics. It would be strange if a nation that did not compete at any Worlds appeared at the qualification event and qualified in that manner alone. It's a relatively new change, though, and I think the WCF is just seeing how this new qualification process with the qualification event works out before they make any more changes. Actually I think it would be better, something like a 16 nation round robin tournament, because you never know (it gives smaller nations a better chance to qualify/develop the sport). On Swimming event names...

FYI: Withing Swimming:

There should not be a space between the distance and the meter symbol (there is a contingent on Wikipedia that feels applying standards from outside the sport are appropriate, ignoring the MOS which instruct to follow the sources)
If the full stroke name is listed (e.g. "freesytle" instead of "free") after a distance, and especially if the "m" is included, then what listed is the event name and should be capitalized.
I format the country and flag onto one line because it makes it smaller (not everyone has 1000 pixels across to view a page).
A country link should probably not be provided for every medalist: it clutters the links on the page and is over-linking. Having a list of participating countries on the page is a better way to have this down.

Thank you for the message. Please realize that I was merely following precedents that have been largely set out in the Olympics articles. The Olympics article gave me the precedent of setting the space between the distance and the meter symbol, which is also mentioned as appropriate at WP:Swimming#To-do. I also do not agree with your manner of formatting the countries and their flags, since it is much better to use {{flagIOC2medalist}} for medalists, as it is a much cleaner way to list the medalists. I use the flagIOC2 suite of templates, which includes {{flagIOC2medalist}}, for editing the Universiade because the suite is used to list in many of the major MSEs, especially ones at the level of the Universiade. I do not agree that the listing of medalists' countries for individual medalists is overlinking, and I do not believe that the list of participating nations is a suitable solution, but I can understand your reasoning. I know some of my actions may have been or seem wrong, and I apologize for any mistakes I have made. I also am sorry that you are upset that I reverted your work with minimal notification, but approaching the matter in such a manner as you did is not the manner that I hoped you would have. I am willing to admit my mistakes and collaborate to produce the best result that fits predetermined guidelines, so, in the future, please refer me to guidelines if I have not followed them, or please let me know if there are any conflicts. @Hooperswim The first point is valid. However number three and four are not valid at all. Even at Wikipedia:WikiProject Swimming there is nothing to suggest your points are valid at all. This has been the format on all (or at least most) swimming events at Multi-sporting events and as the saying goes if it ain't broken don't change it. I started it this early, because when the games start we will be swamped with results so I decided to just start as many as I can before October. Well, the baseball and water polo are the only sports I have run across that are not bolded. All others are, so I thought just changing two would be easier. I'm not very sure... it's rather ambiguous, though, because there are two articles (ESPN and US Rowing) out that say "The trials determined 11 of the 14 crews that will represent the United States," which I take to imply that there will be 14 crews, but another source says "The trials determined the 11 crews that will represent the United States." (Team USA pressbox) I'm not sure what to make of this. It may have been a change in wording between the US Rowing and Team USA pressbox articles, but I haven't seen anything yet about the other three. There are actually two IP addresses with similar activity: Special:Contributions/190.27.133.130 and Special:Contributions/201.244.253.226, the first with activity before the second.
