2011 Men's Curling World Championships

Thank you for creating the page for the 2011 Men's World Championships. I noticed you listed that the top six teams from the European Championships qualify. Traditionally, the top eight teams qualify. I haven't heard of any reduction of the number of teams. Was this is typo or do you have a source for this?--SargentIV (talk) 01:09, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your well-intended edit of List of curling clubs in the United States. Sorry, but all the spelling changes you made were incorrect. Their as in "Bill and Jim are both scratching their -----." Is spelled e before i, not following the rule "I before E except after C." Don't feel bad. If it were not for spellcheck and auto-correct I'd get that one wrong all the time. Also, its is possessive. It's means "it is." So instead of "the lion is going to scratch his ---" you could say "It's going to scratch its ---." Again, one I'd always get wrong without spellcheck. Actually, I think there's something that I need to clear up. I made those spelling changes, but there was an edit conflict due to the fact that I had stopped one of the edits from being submitted upon catching another mistake. The edit conflict reverted to the old version which I had intended to correct. You can see that from the series of minor edits previous to my most recent "edit." I didn't notice that it had reverted, so I did not act. Thank you for the spelling and grammar lessons, but I feel as if I know those rules quite well enough. 2011 Canada Games Calendar

Good job on creating the calendar, but make sure you have accuracy when it comes to the number of events and days they are competed on. I found a lot of errors, so make sure you double check your work. Thank you, Intoronto1125 (talk) 04:13, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

I was not aware that I had made any errors. I followed the calendar posted on the 2011 Canada Games site (here) and it was the same as the calendar that I had posted. However, I trust that you know what you are doing, and that I probably misread the calendar or you have a more accurate source. Either way, I would request that you please cite your source, so that I can have some confirmation.
I also noticed that you don't care for the use of dot (●) in the calendar for the Canada Games and for the Universiade calendar. Just out of curiosity, why not? The key on the top of the calendar uses the dot, and the Olympic games calendars use the dot as well. Thanks. Prayerfortheworld (talk) 06:30, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
I do not use the dot because they do not lead to the article, and it looks cleaner with the number. If the articles for each event is created (which is unlikely) we can go back and put the dots. And for the source, i went to the results section of the 2011 Canada winter games website [1] and looked at each sport and the amount of events per sport. 2011 US Men's Nationals Standings Chart

I noticed that you listed Pete Fenson has having one blank end in the Round Robin portion of the US Nationals. It is my understanding that a team is credited with a blank end if they choose to blank the end while they have hammer. I could not find a box score though that showed Pete Fenson blanking an end with hammer, but perhaps I misunderstand what the statistic is meant to indicate. It's not a major issue of course, just a tiny thing I noticed.--SargentIV (talk) 19:26, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Hi! Yes, I'm not too sure myself what is meant by blank end. I followed what was posted on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Curling#Statistics, which said "Blank ends means total blank ends, with hammer or without." I'm not sure how the standings table was edited as a whole, whether the editors thought that blank ends were blanke nds with hammer or blank ends in total, but that was how I edited it. Curling 2012 youth games

I was thinking if we could sort the European countries by total points scored, as it looks confusing otherwise. Also, Italy and Estonia tied for the last spot, do you know by any chance who gets it? I assumed Estonia as they were listed first on the WCF website. Finally, the qualifiation for other sports such as luge and nordic combined are not official. Yes, thank you for bringing this up. The European qualification is a little sketchy; if you noticed, Finland actually has more qualification points than Italy and Estonia, but Estonia is the listed country for the last qualifying country. At press time, the qualification PDF (source #3 on the curling page) had an incomplete European section, so it's confusing. I would actually suggest that we rank the European countries by total points, since I believe the point total in the "Total" column to be accurate. The only possible inaccurate points listed would be the points for the world juniors, since I did those by hand. I'll change that to reflect the most recent information from the WCF if that becomes available. Thanks again! Prayerfortheworld (talk) 05:48, 19 March 2011 (UTC)
I would also like to suggest that when the subpage for the mixed curling event is created, then we would move the more detailed table presently on the front page to the subpage, and that we would revert to the simpler version of the qualification table that you had made on the front page. Thank you for your help with these games. By the looks of it you are interested in the tennis events, would you be interested in the other racket sports such as badminton and squash as well? Glad to help out wherever I can. Yes, I think I'll probably be focusing on tennis and the US at the PanAm Games page, although I'll help wherever else I can. That sounds like a great idea! I'll take a look at the badminton and squash pages and see what I can do. Regarding the men's doubles event, I think it would probably be wiser to put it as 8 seeds, since there are supposedly 24 teams. I just got confused because I looked off the technical manual for tennis, which said that the men's doubles event was a 16 team affair. But the men's doubles schedule says "Round of 24", so I put a 24-team bracket for that. For the other doubles tournaments, I'll just go off what the manual says (for women's and mixed, 16 teams are participating, so there will be 4 seeds according to the manual). Thanks! 2011 PAG

It drives me crazy when editors put tags on the page! Just fix the problem thats why you are an editor. (check my user page). On another note I think maybe we should include the defending champions at the top of the article, for example John Doe was the men's singles champion at the 2007 Pan American Games. Actually, according to the administrator reviewing that article, there was nothing wrong with it, so that reviewer had no reason to put a tag on there. Regarding the defending champions box, I think that's a wonderful idea, I'll get to work on that. I just have to check the template for the tennis defending champions. Also, for the squash article, the competition format is not in the technical manual, and I'm still looking for a place where the format would be. If you have any tips, please let me know. I think the single's draw will be like any other sport with 35 athletes (the number does look weird) and for the teams male's is three groups with one with 4 teams the other with 3 teams each. For the tennis event defending champion boxes, how should it work? The tennis templates that I found that could work for the situation are Template:Tennis event (which has the defending champion stuff and is meant for a single event type tennis tournament) and Template:Tennis events (which is meant for a tennis tournament with men's and women's singles and doubles). I was thinking that I could make another template similar to the two, except with the addition of a mixed doubles event (as an if parser function) to use in multi sport events. Basically, it would have the defending champion/champion, runner-up, score, and links to the singles (men's/women's) and the doubles (men's/women's/mixed) events, similar to the setup for the Grand Slam events. The mixed doubles event link would be optional (as an if parser function) so that it can accommodate MSEs without mixed doubles events (like some previous OGs or PAGs). The only thing that might be a problem would be the links to all the events, since that would be pretty much covered by the infoboxes such as the one on the 2011 PanAm Games tennis page, but having those links would be following the conventions fro tennis event infoboxes. I like it but it makes the template below it unnecessary, but also you could remove the links to the different tournaments as well. If you decided to remove the second template (the one below) we should include the tennis pictogram. What do you think? As well would you be interested in doing table tennis and racquetball? It seems to me that it'll be a bit bare until then and its possible that someone will put it up at Afd but that it may well be a useful article once the initial draw has taken place. RE 2011 Scotties Articles

The reason I removed it is because when you've put them into the subcategory it removes them from the main page of the 2011 in curling category and places it in the subcategory. When you go to the 2011 in Curling Category all provincial and territorial playdowns, men and women, are visible without having to search for them, which makes it easier for someone who wants to goto the category and look for the event. This is the way it has been since record keeping of the P/T.Playdowns has been recorded, and it is the way it will continue to be done. Sirrussellott (talk) 23:45, 11 April 2011 (UTC)

The qualification tournament for table tennis is at the end of the month in Guadalajara between May 23 - May 31 , 2011. Ya the information is hard to come by considering they are mostly in Spanish. The cycling qualification (for road and track) is worded weirdly so I need to decipher it, will you take a look at it and tell me what you get from it. Yeah, I know... the template is made similar to the templates for all tennis events. I'm not sure how the one for MSEs would look, since it is true that we have links on both the infobox and the tennis template. I'm not exactly sure what to do, and as this does deal with WP:TENNIS, I have asked them about it, but there was no reply, and it seems as if it has been ignored. By "tennis one", are you referring to the MSE tennis template or the infobox template on the tennis page? I think that it would be most sensible to make an exception for the infoboxes for tennis events at MSEs, just because there are already tennis infoboxes of sorts. In the end, I'm okay with anything, but this does sort of set a precedent, since this issue might come up again at the tennis page for the 2012 London OGs and at other pages too. The PAG infobox (the one you linked above) doesn't give as much information as the tennis infobox, though. The tennis infobox shows the winners of the previous tournaments and gives information in a format that all major tennis matches on Wikipedia are covered in. I'm not too sure... I haven't found anything on the event, and the link that you provided doesn't seem to be working. There was an article that came out saying that athlete Mark Hazinski will be participating in the PAGs. I'm not sure how he was qualified or if he is officially participating. The event starts tomorrow. It was working earlier. According to the qualification manual the States has yet to qualify a men's team. However, the first part of the tournament is open to Latin American countries and then another tournament happens after this one, in which the USA might me competing in. Thanks for the link! Yeah, the US doesn't appear in any of those regional events probably because the US isn't in that region. Infobox curling club

Hi. I have not looked at that thing in a long time, nor am I an expert at templates of documenting them. I think what happened was I created it when I created the wiki article for Charlotte Centre Curling Club. When the wiki-nazis deleted that article due to lack of notability, I said 'to hell with it'. If someone in the curling project wants to take-over that template and clean it up, that's groovy with me.
