Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Philip Stevens! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 937 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  • Before the next election, I'd really like there to be an infobox on the page of every MP elected since 1997. --Philip Stevens (talk) 17:01, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Peers' infoboxes: Baron vs Lord[edit]

I feel that peers' infoboxes should have the title "The Lord X" rather than "Baron X", as they are usually referred to as Lord. I changed a couple that happened to be on my watch list, but I don't want to blindly go though and alter all your work without asking what you think! Wikipedia already uses "Baron" in the page title and opening, which I don't necessarily agree with, but that's the policy. However, for the infobox I think we are free to use the form that's more familiar to people.

On a similar note, there's also the question whether former MPs' infoboxes should use their name as it was when they were an MP...

I wish you good luck with you MP infobox project anyway! JRawle (Talk) 00:30, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • May I ask your advice on something? With titles such as 'Baron Selkirk of Douglas', would I put The Lord Selkirk or The Lord Douglas? Thanks! --Philip Stevens (talk) 07:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"The Lord Selkirk of Douglas", in fact! Care is needed to make sure the "of Somwhere" bit is part of the title, and not just a territorial designation that's given on the Letters Patent when the title is created. See for example [1] as opposed to [2]. The "Baron..." bit at the start of the articles should already be correct in this regard, but they aren't always. For current peers, the list at the House of Lords [3] is quite reliable. Kind regards, JRawle (Talk) 13:49, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --Philip Stevens (talk) 16:30, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've just changed a few you edited before my message today. Incidentally, Lord Selkirk of Douglas is just about the worst example you could choose, as the story behind his titles is very complicated (as explained in the article, if you are interested!) An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Christopher Edwards. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christopher Edwards (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Non-election requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content. You may wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Orphaned non-free image File:Moose screenshot.JPG[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Moose screenshot.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.

Fair use rationale for File:Moose screenshot.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Moose screenshot.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Scott Mac 13:13, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election, 2010, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oldham East and Saddleworth by-election, 2010 until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Kevin McE (talk) 21:48, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Philip,

A user had used the Template:Infobox Election in the article Turkish general election, 1946. Observing that there were some factıual errors I tried to improve the article, but only with a limited success. The trouble is with the second party entry. The name of the leader and the image is OK. But the name should be Democratic Party (Turkey, historical) instead of Justice Party (Turkey) But somehow the template doesn't work (at least in the Show preview mode) when I edit the name. Can you please help me ? Happy editting. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 10:10, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Christmas Eve Eve has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is just a redirect to the December 23 article. I have removed the entry for Christmas Eve Eve in the Holidays and Observances section of that page per the guidelines, as any observance should have support in an independent article, and this one is pulling itself up by it's own bootstraps. To continue to pack Eves on seems silly and unsupported. Christmas Eve is as deep as we need to go.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. IC Wikisoc![edit]

Dear Philip Stevens, my name is Vinesh Patel, a 5th Year medic at Imperial. I'm trying to start an Imperial College Wikipedia society, presenting to the union by the end of the month. Would you be interested?

I got your username from the Category: Wikipedians by alma mater: Imperial College London page.

Here is a link demonstrating my work so far: http://www2.imperial.ac.uk/blog/reporter/2011/01/21/wikipedia-society/

My team and I want to get people working in groups for edits. Non-academic and academic edits would be great to work on in groups – an IC Wikipedia soc would be cool! This has already been achieved in the States but we would be the first student society in the UK. http://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_student_clubs. We are also pursuing lots of other things – research into Wikipedia use, GLAM wiki stuff with local museums, using Wikipedia in teaching.

Whether you are a current student or alumnus, I think it would be great to get a community linked together from Imperial, which can give so much to the world’s free information because of the knowledge base here – and have fun doing it!

Myself and 6 other students are holding events at South Kensington campus Wed 9th and 16th; please get in touch at my talk page or e-mail to get into the movement in whatever capacity you can – you would be most welcome.Vinnypatel (talk) 02:01, 4 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited List of religious leaders in 2012, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Hind and Damianos (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ola Jordan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
