Afrita hanem

You proposed deleting my article Afrita hanem because it was a biography of a living person without a reference. However, this page is on a film, not a bio of any person, living or dead. I have, however, inserted a reference, and removed the deletion notification. A tag has been placed on The Geek Group, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia for multiple reasons. Please see the page to see the reasons. If the page has since been deleted, you can ask me the reasons by leaving a message on my user talk page.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Falcon8765 (TALK) 02:19, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Angelo Rules

Hello Osarius, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Angelo Rules, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Being shown in a fair number of countries is a valid claim; that, and TV shows are not covered by A7. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. — Joseph Fox 15:31, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Just wondering if you can explain the rather severe warning you gave to User talk:Bharat.jat1 and the speedy tag you placed on Zhao Yihuan. Many thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:13, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps Bharat.jat1 could explain these four pages Collis Ta'heed, Cyan Ta'heed, Jun Rung and Talk:Envato that the user created with content that failed G3, and was deleted under this A7 by User:Fram? As for the speedy on Zhao Yihuan, perhaps A7 was the incorrect tag and if so I apologise and will learn from this - the article does require copy-editing and wikifying - just the way it was written and a few select words on the article made me think it was A7-able. Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 15:24, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I'm unpuzzled now. I saw the AIV post "...WP has been vandalised by user 4 times..", and looked at his contribs for edits, didn't see the article creations, and overlooked the speedy templates at his talk. (You know how those speedy templates are? There is almost never such a whack grouped together like that from an otherwise constructive editor.) Anyway, sorry to ring alarm bells. This was a strange one. Definitely seems like his account is out of his own control. And no worries on the Zhao Yihuan article. It's a mess anyhow. :) Thanks, and keep up the good work. It was my mistake. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:38, 24 November 2011 (UTC)

You have new message/s Hello. You have a new message at ᐅ's talk page.

FYI, if you're considering RfA, you better be ready to get heavily criticized due to poorly-sourced article creations, such as this beauty; a relatively low editcount; and the incorrect CSD tagging of Angelo Rules. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 00:33, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
How was my CSD tag on Angelo Rules incorrect? It had been deleted earlier the same week under the same criteria I placed it under, the article was a duplicate of itself and was also deleted by User:Fastily under the same criteria. I don't see how this is incorrect. Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 00:38, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
You tagged it with CSD A7. Television shows are not eligible for A7. The article was deleted under G4 (recreation of material deleted as a result of a deletion discussion). /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 00:42, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah yes, you've jogged my memory with the television part. Woops. But, I did tag the article again with the correct CSD tag when I found the AfD. Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 00:44, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
No, you didn't—SudoGhost (talk · contribs) did. In fact, you haven't tagged any articles under G4 in at least the past week. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 00:49, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
...okay, now I'm getting really confused. I'm pretty sure I placed that tag on the article. If the system says I didn't then that must be what happened, but I remember refreshing the page to see if it had been deleted after I (thought) I had placed the tag on it. Wow, okay I need to see a memory specialist XD! Okay, I'm gonna start keeping a CSD log, lucky Twinkle has that feature. Really, truly sorry about that. Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 01:05, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
Don't be sorry—memory lapse isn't your fault, nor can you see deleted edits—but just be glad this wasn't a real RfA. Certainly, no one wants to make you feel bad for a mistake, but in RfA, that usually happens, and worse. /ƒETCHCOMMS/ 01:14, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Overly speedy deletion tagging

I am about to delete an article, Lille palle, that you tagged under A7. The tagging is correct, but it was done far far too quickly. You tagged the article for A7 deletion only 6 minutes after it was created. It's very important that we not be so aggressive with such tagging, because it is extremely disheartening if someone is adding content in good faith only to have it deleted even before s/he can make a second edit. WP:NPP recommends waiting at least 15 minutes since the last edit; personally, except for copyright violations and attack pages, I think waiting a few hours is more appropriate. Thanks. Deletion Point Load Pictures Inc.

Hello,

I uploaded an article referencing a new company that Mike Holmes recently announced. It was deleted immediately. It is not meant to be an advertisement but rather factual. As it is one of my first articles, would you be able to give me some advice on how to rewrite it?

Thanks, wiki2011today — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiki2011today (talkcontribs) 20:33, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

While what is offensive is of course highly subjective, in this case I feel your attempt to get them to change their name was highly inappropriate. The mere presence of the word "homosexual" is not a username violation. When evaluating usernames context should be considered as opposed to just looking for "forbidden words." The list of words that in and of themselves automatically constitute a violation is quite short, and "homosexual" is not one of them. Please be more careful in the future when helping out with username reports. Thanks. Beeblebrox (talk) 00:07, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Help, please?

It seems that I, for some reason, cannot quite seem to grasp this. I'm getting rather deflated about how many negative comments I seem to recieve about my editing, even if I have done the right thing (One example). I would rather that someone could sit down with me and talk me through exactly where I'm going wrong, but not in a derogatory tone. I feel that I am capable of grasping this - I just need a little helping hand. Thank you Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 00:19, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello. (I've removed the helpme template, since this is not something that it can really help with as far as I know.) I'm sorry that you're feeling discouraged. It's never nice, especially when one's put lots of effort in as I can see you have, to receive little appreciation and nothing but curt messages.
One thing we tend to neglect as a community is the fact that established users need to be treated kindly too. I guess what you're facing in that example you cited is that when patrolling pages you need to think about the person who's written that page too. That's all, really; I don't actively patrol pages, but I know it's a stressful job and one gets tired of seeing the same sort of junk all the time. But each time it's a different newbie on the other end, often a good-faith user testing things out or wanting to help us, and it discourages them immensely if they just get a big red notice as the first thing they see. That's what that message is about.
From what I can see, there's nothing wrong with your editing as a whole. You're not a problem user, you're not incompetent. You've just chosen what is possibly the most stressful area to work in, and maybe it's time for a bit of a breather. Try something new (Articles for Creation, if you haven't already seen it, is a lower-stress NPP-type activity and my main haunt), zoom out a bit. I don't think anyone here thinks you're harming the project or mistake-prone, just that they're delivering "for your information" type notes in a very neutral and to-the-point way and these have accumulated a bit. Don't feel like this is people piling on to you!
I haven't been around quite as long as you have, but I understand that it sucks to be treated as a cog in the machine rather than an individual. Do take a break if you're feeling run down, try new things, maybe come back with a fresh perspective and new energy. Wikipedia's just tiring sometimes; please don't take it to heart. sonia♫ 01:22, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Thank you Sonia, You've really put it into perspective. I think I will try something different for a change, in fact Anna (see post below) has invited me to work on new articles with her which is something I will take up - and copyvio work. I'm leaving NPP for a while! Thanks again, Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 10:06, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Maybe I can help

Hello my friend. I have a thought or two:

There are times when I focus on AfDs, then I do some vandalism fighting, then some AfCs or copyvio stuff, and so on. I find that I lose my objectivity and get a negative vibe if I do it too much. Then I know I need to clear my head by working in other areas. I'm not saying this is happening to you. But, you might find it so refreshing to get into another area for a while. How about building some articles (with me if you like)? It's soooo nice, and soooo rewarding, and sooooo, well... peaceful. I would be delighted to collaborate with you. I know of lots of nice species photos needing article. Also, if you are in an interesting geographical area, there are lots of things to make an article or two about. What do you say? :) I think it would be fun. Besides, lately I've been cleaning up copyvios and messy articles, and frankly, I'm not enjoying it. Let me know. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 02:34, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Replied as per our discussion on IRC. Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 14:40, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Well done with the creations. Consider adding inline refs like this:

All bunnies are cute.<ref>http://www.all-about-rabbits.com</ref>

And entitling the section "References" instead of "External links".

You've got a good head for figuring out the taxoboxes. Nice.

Now, the big questions....

Would you be interested in helping maintain the Wikipedia:Requested articles/Images page? Someone comes along and makes a redlink blue about once every month or two. So, it's not much work. Basically, it just needs new redlinks added once in a while. Right now, I'm all alone maintaining it, and could use the help. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 15:57, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks :) and I'll bear those in mind. As for maintaining the page, sure. I just have one question though, how do I find images that have no attached articles? Is there a category, or is it literally sifting through Commons to find any such image? Osarius : T : C : Been CSD'd? 16:01, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
This should explain how I find them: User_talk:Anna_Frodesiak/archive27#Query_about_Species_Articles. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:10, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Your recent creations

Consider expanding them a bit, and adding a few more references. Also, similar articles will show you which talk page banners are appropriate. This helps others see the article and improve it. Good work. You're a natural. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:12, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Also, it might be good in the future to allow a few "done" items to remain at Wikipedia:Requested_articles/Images. This will likely encourage others to create articles. See Wikipedia_talk:Requested_articles/Images. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:16, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Newb requesting aid

12/13/2011

Can you help me?

I am a complete newb and have been working on a revision since five am. I wrote an article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hart_Baker,_Conductor and then was contacted by the individual asking that I revise to a newer simpler name. After reading pages and pages on how to move the article to a new name, including the move tab info, I went back to the article and there was no move tab. After more searching, I discovered that I could not actually ask for help without knowing an administrator's name and there did not seem to be anything relevant in the FAQs or in the manual so I just cut and pasted the article to a newer simpler heading. I have now requested deletion of the old page, I think, but I am still confused. Can you help me - maybe by requesting deletion of the old page or something?

The title the individual prefers is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Hart_Baker and that is the page I'd like to preserve!

Thanks for any aid in advance.

Hello Osarius Thank you for your welcome to Wikipedia.(14:43, 30 January 2012 (UTC)) With respect, your subsequent swift deletion (within an hour?) of my well intended article seems a lot less welcoming, indeed, I found it quite disheartening. I had put significant time, and effort into constructing my article, thought it was coherently written, polite, impartial, and above all relevant to a "notable" subject. Is it possible you deleted my incomplete version, which at the time still lacked proper references? Doubtless, as a welcoming person you will be anxious to restore my faith in Wikipedia. Maybe you will be willing to re-read my submission, and to then enlighten me as to the areas in which I digressed from Wikipedia protocols, and how I might rectify those digressions. Kind regards PWat. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pwat (talkcontribs) 18:51, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello Pwat. Unfortunately, it was not me who deleted the article you submitted (Henley Whalers). I merely tagged it for speedy deletion as it met Wikipedia's speedy deletion criteria A7 - An article about a company, corporation, organization, or group, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. When the article was tagged you did have a chance to oppose the speedy deletion by clicking on the button inside the deletion tag - this would have taken you to a page where you could give your reason why, but seeing as the page has already been deleted this is no good to you. What I can do for you is refer you to the administrator who deleted the article. They will be able to "userfy" the article for you - which means restore the article, but to your userspace, where you can work on it and improve it to meet A7 before moving it to main article space without the risk of it being deleted. The name of the administrator who deleted the article is User:NawlinWiki - I shall notify them that you wish to userfy the article. I am sorry if you felt disheartened after your article had been deleted: the deletion process is a very important part of ensuring Wikipedia meets quality standards and is not meant to put off editors from creating article. Please accept my apologies, and a very happy future in editing Wikipedia. You may also find the Article Wizard helpful. Regards, Osarius Talk 19:33, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

The Henley Whalers

Hi Osarius. Thank you for your feedback. Apparently another editor has restored my text so I will re-edit it and try re-submitting. I am a relatively experienced IT user but am currently finding Wikipedia a bit “clunky” – Hopefully it gets better, and doubtless the safeguards are necessary. Thanks for your patience. Pwat (talk) 22:36, 30 January 2012 (UTC)

Dear Osarius.

Your corrective work 13/1/12, 09:22, is much appreciated. Your point about "more 3rd party references" is taken on board, as is the comment about "neutral point of view". When you are next able to have a look in the "User:Pwat/Henley Whalers" area you will find I have temporally added some notes relating to "3rd party references" which I will later convert into the required citations. You will also see other temporary notes based of this morning's research, which I shall revise into a coherent state. Do you feel these revisions will sufficiently enhance "notability" and "neutral point of view"?] Do you see any further areas which I should develop before submission? Kind regards Pwat Pwat (talk) 11:12, 31 January 2012 (UTC)

I regularly review {{copypaste}} tags and just come across you tagging of this article. Could I ask why you tagged it? Google searches are not coming up with anything. Dpmuk (talk) 20:19, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

After re-reading the article, it appears that the sections that I thought might have been copy/pasted from a newspaper (not a website, which is why your G search wouldn't come up with anything), are actually quotes. I shall remv. the tag. Apologies. Osarius Talk 20:45, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
I could have sworn I'd replied to this yesterday. Oh, well. As well as being quotes the text looks to be PD as it appears to have been published in the US before 1923.
