Peppers article[edit]

Hi Onion quality,

I see the Peppers draft is back on your user page. I urge you to put it aside for the time being, and help out with something else instead. It has absolutely no chance of acceptance in anything resembling its current form. I hate to sound like "you'll understand when you're older" but it kind of amounts to that. It takes a while to get used to what kinds of edits and sourcing are usable on Wikipedia and the ones in that article are basically unusable in the absence of mainsteam secondary sourcing (that means something like the New York Times, not YTMND). Also as mentioned at ANI, wp:draft explains how to set up dedicated pages for article drafts instead of using your main user page, but that's just a technical thing.

Please take a look at WP:BIO and WP:RS for the amount and quality of documentation you're going to have to supply for the article to be kept. I don't think there is enough out there for the Peppers article to meet the standard, so it's likely to be rejected even if you use everything you can find. I understand how Peppers became an internet meme of interest to lots of people, but Wikipedia doesn't consider that to be sufficient reason to have an article. It has articles about many weird and obscure subjects but it's not "anything goes": it has a basic level of selectivity (WP:BIO) that is enforced rather rigorously for subjects like Peppers. There are other sites for that type of thing and you're probably familiar with them by now.

If your heart's desire is to write about Brian Peppers and not about any other subject, you should do it at one of those other sites and not Wikipedia. If your desire is to write something for Wikipedia and you're flexible about the subject matter, that's great--pick almost anything except Brian Peppers or other internet memes etc, and write about that. If you're determined to write about Peppers and you're determined to do it on Wikipedia, unless you make some miraculous sourcing find that the search engines and other editors all missed, you're just setting yourself up for conflict and frustration and you will not be able to make the article stay around.

As an unenrolled (IP address) editor I have just about the lowest possible status on Wikipedia-- I have no authority of any kind, so I'm absolutely not threatening you with any kind of response on my part. There is zero that I can do to you or anyone else, and I'm not into that type of conflict anyway, and I'm not too concerned about causing problems for Brian Peppers now that he's dead--that was more of an issue when the article was originally written, during his lifetime. I'm just explaining factually what is likely to happen based on knowledge of how the site works and having seen this kind of thing before. The Peppers article in anything like its current form is not going to fly.

Welcome to Wikipedia, and please write about something else. ;-)

Regards

I replied on my talk page to the message you left, in case you didn't see the reply. 50.0.136.194 (talk) 22:57, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[edit]

Hello. I've deleted your userpage, however, I've left you with the ability to recreate it. As this content has been deleted before, that draft is not going to just sit there. If you're going to restore it again for review I want it at WP:DRV the same day or I'll lock it up again and we can start talking about blocks. My advice however is to not restore it. Thank you for your understanding. -- zzuuzz (talk) 10:40, 25 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't me who re-uploaded the peppers article. I read and respected the decisions at WP:Administrators' Noticeboard/Incidents - seems someone else accidentally restored the content when I asked for the ability to edit my userpage. Hope that's clear - there's no need to discuss blocks. Onion quality (talk) 19:38, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, to be clear you're not at fault and haven't recreated anything. We are not talking about anything else. I just wanted to provide you with information about your options. I notice that you're still somewhat intent, and so I'm happy to advise you on some of the issues so you can give the article's one chance of review its best shot. You should read all the deletion discussion material. The community has rejected the short stub you're offering - noting a meme, convictions from primary sources and medical conditions (even a death?) from other less reliable sources. It was a while ago, so it's open to review especially if anything has changed over time. The problem for you is that no respectable publisher has written about this subject, let alone much about, that I'm aware of. You should therefore concentrate your efforts on meeting WP:N with WP:RS to get WP:V. Everything else will follow. Legume articles may have lower initial standards but follow the same principle. Good luck! -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:29, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage[edit]

I'm trying to create a table on my userpage with onion statistics - should have 3 columns: category, amount per 100g, % daily value. I haven't got the format right, clearly. Should be obvious what should go where though when you see my feeble attempt! Ta, Onion quality (talk) 19:47, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The template you use simply does not offer that functionality. The template page explains the available parameters and gives an example of use. The template lists percentages only for vitamins and trace elements, and it calculates them automatically based on the weights. I have added all the parameters given on the USDA website with these edits (I had to remove the "serving size" parameter since leaving it blank was led to a blank value for "per" instead of the default "per 100g" in the heading). Brian Peppers article[edit]

After some consideration, I have decided I'd like to give a go at creating this page again. Obviously, the last attempt didn't quite meet the necessary standards. I reckon I could do a much better job this time having had the chance to properly research reliable sources. However, I feel the original attempt may serve as a useful template - please could I request the source doe for this. I will then do my best to edit out anything inappropriate, and will add proper references. Many thanks! Onion quality (talk) 18:44, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:RESTORE --Ⓩⓟⓟⓘⓧ (talk) 19:11, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd strongly advise you to let that topic rest. There is nothing in the deleted page that would be helpful, and I doubt any admin will undelete an attack page (I won't, and WP:RESTORE is the wrong venue for pages that were deleted for cause, like the one you are asking about - WP:DRV would be the appropriate venue, but would likely be a waste of time). I'll also note that you do not seem to have edited at all since your last attempt. Unless you read policies and guidelines without applying your newfound knowledge anywhere, I don't think you have the experience to work on this topic. Furthermore, you would have a very, very hard time showing that either Peppers or the meme meet Wikipedia's standards of notability. Huon (talk) 19:17, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'm going to have a go anyway but will tread extremely carefully, write it in my user page first and ask for advice before going live, and in any case first write a bit about legumes to get up to speed with Wikipedia again. Onion quality (talk) 19:46, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
