New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello NotTheFakeJTP,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Moving my userpage

Hi, I realized that you moved my user page. Just to notify you that I moved it back because I was doing some experiments. Thanks. tLoM (The Lord of Math) (Message) (Report false positive) 16:24, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@The Lord of Math: If you're doing experiments, don't put an AfC submission tag on it. That puts it in a maintenance category that tells reviewers to move it to draftspace. JTP (talkcontribs) 17:29, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'd try to avoid this, but the AFC tag is part of the experiment...(pre-[4-1]) tLoM (The Lord of Math) (Message) (Report false positive) 01:30, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

/* Semi-protected edit request on 20 April 2020 */ (MrBeast)

Hey! I have recently added a submission in which you have reviewed haven't verified. I don't know if this is how Im supposed to contact you (I'm new here), but I am anyways.

I wanted to add a submission to the Mr. Beast's (Jimmy Donaldson) article. Under the Content and Style header, I wanted to add a brief paragraph explaining his Last To Leave series, which is a big portion of the content he has made in the past year.

I don't know if the reason is that I didn't format correctly, because the statement wasn't approved. The main two reasons are as follow:

You say it is not clear what changes need to be made, and it isn't in a proper X to Y format. Can you elaborate on what this means? I've tried looking it up on the site but I can't find it, as well as it doesn't make sense to me.

You also say sources might not be reliable. I tried to back up my research as much as possible, but it's a short paragraph, so there are only two sources. Are there restrictions on what sources apply? It'd be good information to know.

I really want to contribute to this article, and I think the description is important information to know for the Content and Style category. Thanks for your time.

Le Panini (talk) 20:54, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Le Panini: You need to provide a clear explanation of what you want to change on the talk page in questions (i.e. "Please add the following below the final paragraph in x section" or "ab in the section xy should be ac") with reliable sources to back it up instead of just writing the paragraph you want to add. If you make the necessary changes, you can edit the template at the top of the talk page section so it says |answered=no and someone should get to it soon. JTP (talkcontribs) 21:03, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Karabelas: Infoboxes vary between wikis, meaning that the English Wikipedia and German Wikipedia do not use the same parameters. You cannot put his finishing move in the English infobox and expect it to show up like it does in the German one, that is not how it works. JTP (talkcontribs) 21:44, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Page revision

The page I was editing was originally in a very outdated and poorly written state for several years. Noticing nobody else had edited it any further in such a long time, I decided to do it myself, totally new to Wikipedia editing at that. I don't own the page, but neither do you. I was writing it as I'm a fan of the subject, and was re-writing it for other fans like myself that might actually appreciate the historical details. I've been spending the past 2 weeks writing, editing, and finding references to complete it. I'll accept a revised shortening of the article as long as you include sections for each year. You have skimmed far too much down, and even ignored 2018 entirely. This is way too much to cut off, there's a large portion completely missing now that visitors to the page might want to know about. Please revise once again with a decent amount of information for each year at least. Thanks.THUNDERSKULL99 (talk) 22:49, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@THUNDERSKULL99: The issue was that you summarized practically every event, which made the page nearly twice as long as WWE. If there were moments crucial to the promotion's history that took place in 2018 (or elsewhere, for that matter), by all means, add it. For a 10-year-old promotion, there should not be an insane amount of information. You can ask at WT:PW for help, I'm sure there are people there more familiar with the topic than me. JTP (talkcontribs) 22:54, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NotTheFakeJTP: I understand the issue, but it doesn't matter how long the WWE page is, I'm not writing it with that in mind. I'm writing it for actual fans that want a thorough history lesson of the promotion, regardless of how old the promotion is. I don't know how much or how little wiki page length is supposed to be. You said you aren't familiar with the topic yet you still made a decent amount of manual edits I noticed, that's a considerable portion for policing a page you aren't familiar with. All I'm asking is to add some of the significant things for each year rather than making it a total skim job. Unless you allow me to finish 2017 like I was currently in the middle of, (which was my final thing remaining) and then once I complete that I will cut out large portions of each section myself so that each year has just a small number of paragraphs instead, but you'll have to undo your revision first and then patiently trust me to redo them. I'll even send you a message when I complete it to let you know. Thanks.THUNDERSKULL99 (talk) 23:20, 3 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@NotTheFakeJTP: Nevermind. I've had enough of Wikipedia at this stage. Leave it as it is.THUNDERSKULL99 (talk) 00:21, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ken Anderson

Hello. Thank you for taking your time and improve the article. Maybe it's not the most popular choice, but after reading, I decided to start the GAR. I can't write a GA and, at one point, didn't meet the criteria. Also, I have asked several times for help to other members in the project. I have asked for comments in Britt Baker, just MPJ appeared. I asked for help in Carly Colon, no one cared (BTW, Colon is also a GA that doesn't meet the criteria). You asked for help with The Fink, I don't know if somebody appeared. Colabotation of the month was dropped because no one edits. If I asked for help without the GAR, I'm sure the article would still the same. English isn't my first language, so it's really hard to me to write Good Articles. Again, thanks you for your time improving the article. If you want, I can remove over detailed storylines and make it less in-universe. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 22:06, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I think GAR was the way to go, the article was in pretty rough shape. JTP (talkcontribs) 22:47, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Nice. If you want, we can improve Carly Colon after Anderson. It's in a very bad shape too. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 22:59, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. After our work, I think Ken Anderson is back to a GA shape. What do you think? --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 19:06, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@HHH Pedrigree: Looks good to me. JTP (talkcontribs) 23:16, 18 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Heyman

Why you can nominate my page for deletion RB2616 (talk) 05:44, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RB2616: If the promotion isn't notable, the titles surely aren't notable. JTP (talkcontribs) 05:47, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok but I make promption page later when I complete the articles completely. RB2616 (talk) 05:52, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RB2616: Personally, I don't believe the promotion is notable either, but if you think it meets WP:PWPROM, start it at Draft:Absolute Intense Wrestling. JTP (talkcontribs) 05:56, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok , sorry RB2616 (talk) 10:10, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi NotTheFakeJTP, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

Hello NotTheFakeJTP,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.
