Overhaul of FL criteria[edit]

Errors in one of your edits[edit]

First: Nice work on cleaning up people’s wrong usage of {{nowrap begin}} etc. Many people don’t know how to use this family of templates, which are quite a bit more complex than the simple {{·}}

Second: Your edit on Template:Foreign Secretary introduced a </ br> tag – I guess you meant to write <br />? Also, a formatting error broke a link in the bottom line of the template and you obviously didn’t check the preview before saving. I don’t blame you – I have done the same thing when doing bulk editing :-) Also, I haven’t checked your edit log to see if it was a one-time mistake or if you have consistently changed <br> → </ br>, but I hope you will.

List of East Carolina Pirates in the NFL Draft[edit]

Greetings again. I have created the page List of East Carolina Pirates in the NFL Draft and would like for you to peer review it for WP:FL worthiness, if you have time. If you are able to, please leave the comments on the list talkpage. Also, I am not sure if the naming convention is correct. This is the first kind of list like this and have nothing to base it off of. Thanks again, PGPirate 18:44, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, if it can wait til the 14th, otherwise I'm on a wikibreak of sorts. αŁʰƏЩ @ 03:11, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering if you would be interested in running WP:FLRC. I am also asking Dweller and if you are both interested, you could co-run it. It really doesn't require two people, but you could also comment and look for unworthy lists (especially amond the early promotions). If you do want to do it, let me know. -- Scorpion0422 02:59, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Peer Review request[edit]

Hello again! You reviewed Slipknot (album) a few weeks ago and I think you did a good job with it, it should be a GAC soon. Anyway, I was wondering if you would be willing to take a look at Iowa (album), the band's second album. It's a little shorter than the last one (less controversey) but it's pretty well-written, I'm gonna do a last proof-read now. You can leave your comments on the discussion page, like last time. If you're too busy it's no big deal, just let me know. Thank you! Blackngold29 03:40, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations on your recent WP:FL. In case you do not know, we are running an experiment to choose the List of the Month and Lists of the Day for June. Feel free to nominate your list at User:TonyTheTiger/List of the Day/Nominees/200807 for consideration next month to be the July LOTM or a LOTD. If you would like to support this experiment the most important thing you can do is come by and vote at User:TonyTheTiger/List of the Day/voting/200806. My talk page is always open.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 05:09, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FLRC[edit]

If you still would like to be in charge of the process, it's yours although TRM and I have decided to wait until you return before making any kind of announcement. Dweller said he is also interested, so perhaps you two could work something out so that one of you handles the closing, and another looks for potential candidates and does some reviewing. -- Scorpion0422 19:54, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I notice you've been editing recently (could be a public computer, if so, my bad) so could you please take another look at the FLC for the above? Degrassi: The Next Generation[edit]

First off, I want to say congratulations. I was amazed when you got the episode list featured, and I'm even more pleased to see the main DTNG as a featured article. The moment I noticed the star in the corner, I figured you were the one who got it there, since you worked hard on the list. It looks amazing! It's so nice to see Degrassi as a featued article. Hopefully, it can be on the front page someday. (October 14th would be neat, since it's the day it premiered). theblueflamingoSquawk 19:22, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, thank you! I've just returned to Wikipedia following a 2 week break, so to see this and the thread below is very nice. It was actually promoted in my absence, and I didn't know about it! I haven't looked at the page yet, hopefully there has been no vandalism, but I know that there are other Wikipedians out there who watch the page and fix anything. Thanks again! -- αŁʰƏЩ @ 20:40, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ray of Sunshine[edit]

Ray of Sunshine Award
You, User:Matthewedwards, are a Ray of Sunshine! You know how sometimes you hate checking your watchlist, especially when you see that certain someone or an IP has edited your favorite articles? The Ray of Sunshine is bestowed on that person that, when you see their name at the top of your watchlist, you know that all is right with the world, you can relax, and do something besides cleaning up another mess. I especially appreciate your helpful contributions to all Degrassi-related articles! Thanks again! - Keng - t | c - 18:27, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Slipknot GA[edit]

Hey, Thanks, your comments absolutely helped. Actually, I might have another job for you, if you're interested. Iowa (album) needs the same treatment that you gave Slipknot. I'm gonna try to go through it a few more times, but I'll be kind of busy for the next few days; if you want to do it now or wait, I don't really care. If you're busy or can't do it, it's no big deal I'm sure I could find someone else, but try to let me know if you can't do it. Thanks Again! Blackngold29 21:30, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just got back to Wikipedia after a couple of weeks away. Right now I'm looking through FLC's talk page and seeing what decisions have been made in my absence. I'll look at it within the next 7 days though :) -- αŁʰƏЩ @ 21:36, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back[edit]

We all missed your reviews. You can still watch the FLRC process if you wish. Basically all it involves is commenting in and closing them. However, if you wish, you can also look for potential removal noms (there are quite a few amongst the 2005 and 2006 promotions that may no longer meet standards). -- Scorpion0422 00:32, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anything to do[edit]

Hi again and thanks for your friendly message. Well, if nothing that User:Davidgothberg's currently involved with takes your fancy, I have a "To finish/do" list on my userpage that's hopefully mostly self-explanatory. I'm trying to work through it from the top downward, so you could try working bottom upward as I reckon it will take me "some time" to reach there! Question[edit]

Thanks for rewieing Seinfeld (season 1) at FLC, I just have one question, Is it required to use this template? I would like to know, please. I'll change it if you insist. Also one more are we supposed to state if a show is filmed in front of studio audience? --Gman124 talk 04:52, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All other episodic FLs use the template. Given that the other FLC, Seinfeld (season 3) does (I haven't looked at any others), it should be. The seasons' lists can then be transcluded onto List of Seinfeld episodes, similar to how The Simpsons, Lost, and Degrassi: The Next Generation episodes have.
I would add it if it was, because it's part of the production information. -- Matthewedwards (talk · contribs · count · email) 05:08, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
how about now, I made the episode table look like Seinfeld (Season 3). --Gman124 talk 16:26, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the episode list to season 1 and soon will add to season 3 as well, although it may seem like nothing changed looking at it. --Gman124 talk 02:34, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of broadcast television in the Los Angeles, California market[edit]

Hey Matthew, welcome back, hope your move wasn't as bad as they always say - most stressful thing in life apparently! As for your list concept, well the idea of a 217 list FT is outrageous, obviously! Crazy talk. But, in terms of the "usefulness" of such lists, I can't see why not. You'll need to work on the name of the lists, avoid the sortability because you've got colspan's in there which wreck the whole thing, but otherwise I wouldn't object at all. WP:FLAG-BAND[edit]

Hello, Matthewedwards/Archives/2008 ...

You recently edited some of my essays, like User:The Bipolar Anon-IP Gnome/Flag-band, to remove the WP:FLAG-xyz tags with the edit summary

Removing shortcut links You can put it back in when the links work, but right now it's messing up with the functionality of the new shortcuts. See CAT:SHORTFIX for more information

You missed one of the Flag-templates, but I fixed it ... anywho, I guess I'm soliciting input to try to get these made "official" essays with "WP:" shortcuts, so I'd appreciate your comments on my Flag templates for deletion warnings.

Hey Matthew!
Every few weeks (or so) I check out this page and this page, looking for redirects and double redirects. Because "Dumont" is a popular spelling for the company, though technically incorrect (per Weinstein, 2004 and Ingram, 2002), I try to check semi-regularly. It's cool to see new pages, like your sandbox page, pop up on these search results. I'm glad to know the network isn't completely forgotten. :) Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 03:35, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Python script[edit]

It's very crude and hard-coded, so you would need to have some knowledge of python to modify it. It reads a Wiki source page saved to a text file as oldtable.txt, and just reads and rewrites each line other than a table line. A table line is broken into its components, which then can be put back together in a different order. It doesn't modify table headers, although that wouldn't be difficult to add. It also doesn't know about tables which have a field per line.

The first line of the script is necessary to handle non-ascii characters eg macrons in Maori words and mdashes. This is probably Unix/Linux specific.

  1. -*- coding: latin-1 -*-

"""cols.py

A python program to reorder the columns of "List of schools in New Zealand" articles """

__author__ = "gadfium" __version__ = "$Revision: 1.0 $" __date__ = "$Date: 2008/05/25 $" __copyright__ = "None" __license__ = "public domain"

if __name__ == "__main__":

   infile = open("oldtable.txt", "rt")
   wiki = infile.read()
   infile.close()
   lines = wiki.splitlines()
   outfile = open("newtable.txt", "wt")
   for line in lines:
       if line.find("| ")==0:
           elements = line.split("||")
           line = elements[0] + "||"
           line = line + ("||").join(elements[3:])
           line = line + " || " + elements[1] + " || " + elements[2]
       outfile.write(line)
       outfile.write("\n")
   outfile.close()

Hope it's useful for you.-gadfium 02:51, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you have some programming experience but don't know Python, and you're still interested, I'll comment it for you. If you have a specific task, tell me and I'll suggest how it should be modified.-gadfium 02:57, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:legend3[edit]

Yes, {{legend3}} looks a lot better than the {{colorbox}} and should be merged. I'd just discuss it first at the colorbox' talkpage.--Crzycheetah 06:50, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So, what you mean is that we add {{#if:{{{2|}}}|{{#if:{{{3|}}}|[[{{{3}}}|{{{2}}}]]|{{{2}}}}}|}} to {{colorbox}} in place of {{{2| }}} that I just added? I just thought that that word legend is more appropriate for this box than just a "colorbox". --Crzycheetah 07:12, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Peer Review help[edit]

Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Thanks again for your help and in advance for any assistance with the backlog. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
