Top Hats

Hello Mabalu thank-you for the name change info; I have requested a change. Note on top hat article I am correcting your references as the do not state Dollman specifically. I was not trying to hide anonymously merely was not logged in when put through edit! Please try not to jump to conclusions. The issue on male vs female is rather a moot for article. If you wish to discuss, please do give me a call at my company. Happy to assist in providing accurate top hat history whilst I may not be an expert on wiki, but I do specialize in toppers. Hi User:Doug at Ascot Top Hats - thank you for the name change and apologies for jumping to conclusions - have had a bit of harassment from another ISP editor so was a bit on edge. It is definitely a fact that a number of people have taken the idea of a collapsible spring-loaded hat to refer to a top hat, regardless of whether or not it actually IS a top hat, so I think it is appropriate to highlight this. Hi Mabalu In 1824 Dollman is still advertising what he calls his "Patent Elastic Opera Hats" and states to "Noblemen and Gentlemen, that he is the sole inventor of them, and has obtained his Majesty's Letters Patent for the Article" as such my removal of the Male vs Female point, as I had earlier concluded invention was intended for males (though point is moot really, anyone can wear a top hat! though technically at the time it was not called a top hat! ...that is a more modern term). I do a lot of research to toppers, so whilst to some may appear to some have a COI I do aim to be neutral and provide researched information. Doug at Ascot Top Hats (talk) 23:43, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
