TPS help, please

I want to put little DYK and GA icons next to the names of the articles to which they apply in the list on my user page. I don't want the top icons - I just want to put them in the list itself. I can't seem to figure out how to do this task which should be pretty easy. Help, please? LadyofShalott 15:20, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

There may be some "official" way to do it, but the way I do it on my page is something like:

*[[File:Symbol question.svg|15px|link=]] ''[[Zanthoxylum americanum]]''
*[[File:Symbol support vote.svg|15px|link=]] [[Camak House]]

... which produces:

• Zanthoxylum americanum
• Camak House

In the above, the icon is not clickable. If you remove "|link=", then clicking on the icon goes to the icon's page. If you use something like "|link=Talk:Zanthoxylum americanum" it will go the article's talk page (where the hook is shown). (What I do on my page is link to the specific hook in my DYK list which I have further down on the same page.)

BTW, I had noticed your edit summary about the top icons being at different levels and had planned to look into that. If you decide you want to keep the top icons, I could see about taking care of that. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 00:43, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

Wagner & Co.

Hi Lady of Shalott, please stop editing the Wagner Solar Inc page. You are definitely incorrect by simply forwarding it to Wagner and Co because they are two different companies. I hope you can understand this. It is as wrong as calling Gatorade the same company as Pepsi Co. Thing is... there was no evidence for WP:Notability of the daughter company. There was for the parent company. That is to say, we can have an article on Wagner & Co., but an article on Wagner Solar did not appear to be acceptable. Someone wanted just to delete the whole thing; I salvaged what I could. You will have found, then, that he suffered from polio. For physical exercise he had a special pool built, bigger but a little shallower than standard pools.  Licence changed. If somebody wants to transfer it from Flikr to Commons (I can't access Flikr until tonight). Hopefully he changed it to the correct format...it has been a while since I licenced something there, and it is a little strange now. Invitation to the Bacon Challenge 2012

Hello! You have been invited to take part in the Bacon Challenge 2012. In case you don't know or need a refresher, the Bacon Challenge is an annual celebration of bacon on Wikipedia in which editors come together to help create, expand, and improve Wikipedia's coverage of bacon. The event lasts all the way through National Pig Day 2012, giving participants plenty of time to work at their pleasure. In addition to the Bacon Challenge is the Bacon WikiCup 2012, a side event to the Challenge in which all bacon-related contributions done by those participating in the Challenge are submitted and scored by the scorekeeper (me) based on the scoring chart. At the end of the Challenge, the user with the most points in the Bacon WikiCup will win a shiny trophy for their userpage. In addition, the users who score the highest in specific categories (not yet finalized, but the categories include most image uploads, most article creations, most DYK submissions, and more) will win barnstars. Finally, all participants will receive a medal. While the awards are nice, in the end, the important thing is to have fun and enjoy what we're all here for, which is improving Wikipedia.

If you decide to participate, great! You may add your name to the participants list at the main page of the Bacon Challenge 2012, and pick up the userbox for your userpage if you desire. Signing up for the Challenge will also automatically enter you into the Bacon WikiCup. If you don't wish to participate, that's fine too - maybe next year! In the meantime, if you know anyone who might also be interested in participating, feel free to invite them! The Challenge is open to anyone and accepts participants at any time, so feel free to let anyone who might be interested know.

Note that I, the scorekeeper of the Bacon WikiCup, will be on vacation starting on the 18th of June all the way up until the 5th of July. I will have limited access to the internet, so I may or may not be able to score users' contributions during this time. Sorry for any delay in scoring (but since the Challenge lasts for more than half a year, there's no rush, right? (= ).

I began the article about Christopher Scott (choreographer). You tagged it which was helpful and several people have made some edits/comments. I am not sure if I am supposed to do anything else or just leave it be. Also when can the tags be removed and who can do this? When you have time, can you please take another look at the page and advise me? I am still looking for references and plan to add more. I also want to add another section about Scott's work on "So You Think You Can Dance" as he will be a regular choreographer for the whole season, but I was going to wait to add that. Hi Lisaelainescott. I'll advice you a lil bit, Lady of Shalott can complement it later on ;) You are almost alone on Wikipedia, so be bold if you are overhauling an article. You're edits will be reviewed. The standard is the Manual of style, the featured articles. You have to decide how much time 2011 are you going to spend on the article: if you want stub, start, C, B, A, good or featured quality. I'll add that WP:RS is critical. Without looking in too much detail at the moment, I notice that there are a couple things sourced to IMDB, which is not typically regarded as a reliable source. My request for help

I was sorry to see that you decided to close my request for help at AN/I. I could develop it further but am hoping that it is sufficient in itself to support the point that the numerous articles about India which rely on Tod really, well, probably should not. Undo of page move

Could you help undo a page move? this edit needs to be undone for the article and talk page. The correct spelling in "Antony". This user has some problems, he/she create articles with copyright, first time some other patroller put tag of speedy deletion on it, but this owner of page deleted that tag on both of his pages. pages are Zte mf60 and Huawei ascend 2, he had also warned by a admin or any patroller, but he again removed tag of speedy deletion from other article. Looking at his history... On July 9, two articles he created were put up for deletion. Bata (tribe) is up for an AfD and Formanites was up for CSD, but now is redirected. • Staying within an assumption of this editors good faith (challenged though it is by the breached assurances of changed future behaviour), and accepting the generosity in trying to assist his understanding of the English-language usage of "autobiography", I think there is a wider practical consequences. We have to consider the other editors whose contributions (initially imperfect as some patently are) are getting hit by these often baffling deletion flaggings within minutes of uploading their article. What is someone to think when their contribution is threatened with deletion on grounds of "Unreferenced and improper writing of article" or worse no reason at all? Group discussion is a major interviewing tool used in Indian Corporates especially while hiring MBA/Business Graduates. No article was available on wikipedia so one was created. hi lady of shalott...i am new (obviously) to wikipedia. so forgive me-- i do not desire to be an editor but do want this page set right. the page in question is the Pete the Cat page. It was created and posted with no approval from the artist- copyright and trademark owner of Pete the Cat-- there are a tremendous amount of rules about editing the material-- are there none in the creation of the page? True, the page discusses the book which can and should be part of the page. But Pete the Cat is a character-- not a book... there are several books. So, i have no interest in becoming an editor but would like to have someone edit and make the page about what it indicates it is about. Here is the article creator. First of all, the content you added appears to be copied from this website. There's either a copyright violation, or, if you are the owner of that copyright, even more of a conflict of interest than there already is... As for "Pete the Cat" as the title of the article, when the article was created the "White Shoes" book was the only commercially published book ("The Misadventures" was self-published and doesn't have, for instance, an entry in the Library of Congress), and "Pete the Cat" was short and seemed appropriate. Honestly, when I read the book to my kids, they never asked for the white shoes--they ask for Pete the Cat. I personally have no objection to renaming the article to Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes. The thing is, without that book, the character is not notable by Wikipedia's standards. It was hard enough already to find anything on James Dean, Pete's creator, with whom you may be acquainted--creating an article on either Dean or Pete by themselves is a losing proposition, unfortunately.

On another note, the Lady was correct in her reversal. Such removal is simply not OK. Perhaps you know how difficult it is to create something; finding and pulling together the references for this article was not so easy (and I had great help from the Lady).

I was unaware of all the rules of editing as I said I do not wish to be the editor but have beens asked to correct the article to represent the title. The news article ref. on the page is a good start for info.. the article by AJC.. I am not questioning the book... or the information listed about the book... but the owner of the copyright and trademark of character "pete the cat" was not notified or questioned. I agree that this information should be put on a page with the book title... if the page is only going to cover the book. The character was well established NATIONWIDE galleries and art collections years prior to the book. In addition there are other books being published by Harper Collins that will not have Eric Litwin as author. The author was chosen out of many that have approached the creator to create a book about the character. Contacting the artist and creator or his staff for information on the character and creator would have been the correct way to insure the information was all inclusive and not narrowed down to a fraction of what or who Pete the Cat is. You may not be familiar with Pete the Cat but should have become so before naming the page after him. • I am not sure I understand the objection. Issues of copyright (on the character, in this case) usually don't come up--the article makes no claim at all about anyone having copyright, so there certainly is no incorrect assignment. I looked all over the place for sources on Pete and his creator and what I found in reliable sources is in the article. Wikipedia works by way of verifying content (see WP:V) using reliable sources (see WP:RS), and the info in the article is properly sourced. The article states quite clearly that Pete was designed by Dean in 1999; nowhere does it say that it was Litwin's idea, which it seems is your bone of contention.

  But moving the article to the title suggested above makes the subject more clear, and that is what I will do. I am going to tweak it also where necessary, to remove the suggestion that Pete the Cat and Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes are the same thing. As I suggested above, an article on Pete the Cat (the character) probably will suffer from a lack of reliable sources, but that's just my estimation. Thank you. I appreciate your willingness to change the article to the book title since that is soley what the article is about.but I also feel that more credit to the creator of the character needs to be on the page... There are multiple past articles on the Atlanta Journal Website on James Dean/ Pete the Cat... he has been on TV stations in Alabama; CNN has interviewed him all prior to the book, his self published book is registered with the library of congress. Please accept my apologies for aggressively pursuing this issue... as you said when you have spent years creating something it is hard to see it put out there with very little acknowledgement of the history or recognition of intellectual property. Pete the Cat has been James Dean's life work and sole income for 12yrs. Pete the Cat has been selected as the city mascot in the City of Decatur, GA. Collectors from Johansburg Africa, to Germany... He is a notable character. That is why your kids say "Pete the Cat"--not white shoes. I truly appreciated your fixing this problem, and though i mishandled trying to edit the page (did not know all the rules-- i was going to create a section for BOOKs and keep the info on the book there-- i was using the Garfield page set-up as example) It's all good. As for writing an article about the character, I do think that will be relatively difficult, for the reasons outlined by Drmies above; the two of us tried to find and incorporate as much relevant material as we could in creating the article that does exist. I can't really suggest any particular additional editors to work on this, but two places you might broach the subject are the talk pages of Wikipedia:WikiProject Fictional characters and WP:WikiProject Visual Arts. WikiProjects are groups of editors interested in working on articles of a general sort, and the article you propose be created would fit within the scopes of those two projects. Lohara is a quiet backwater and lovely for it! Plenty of admins watching the contentious stuff, thanks, but they seem not to have much in their armoury to quell the situation. There is an ongoing issue that has even crept into Qwyrxian's current RfA as question #13. It involves a few editors on one "side" and an awful lot of the other, but while the few are concentrating on each topic, the many are spread far and wide. Eg: say there are 10 topics, then the same 4 or 5 users are starting big, tendentious, pointless and (arguably) incompetent arguments on all of those, while there are 2 or 3 from the other "side" at each topic. This is going to end in tears, I am sure of it, because there is some fairly extreme post-colonial POV going on. Anyway, a query: if I have done three reverts and a person then removes some content I added which was validly cited (it was in fact using a source they introduced) am I still stuck with leaving that alone? They have reverted on the grounds that the addition included weasel words - "some years" - but in this instance that is as good as I can get it because the source is not specific itself. I always get really worried about 3RR & think that the only real exception is vandalism. Wow, ok, that is certainly not appropriate. I agree that the editor's sole purpose seems to be to insert the work of that one person (himself?). An indefinite block may be the only way to go ultimately, especially since the editor has thus far shown zero inclination in engaging in discussion on a talk page, or even in edit summaries. Also, many of the edits marked minor clearly are not. However, I wonder if now that the editor has been blocked, if some sort of discussion can begin. If we can encourage the user to discuss with others and perhaps not be entirely focused on the work of one person, maybe, just maybe, we can turn this around. 1. There's no way to delete an account. Just stick to editing from the one you acually want. It would be a good idea to put a pointer from the user page of the mistaken one to your preferred account.
2. For general information about citing Wikipedia, look at [[4]]. To cite an actual article though, when you are at that article, look on the left hand side of the screen. Hi Kschack1, well, first off, don't model an article on one filled with tags of things that need to be improved. More specifically though, (1) you need third-party references - your article is almost entirely sourced to the organization's own website. Are there articles in newspapers about this group? What about (even better) in the scholarly literature? (2) The article sounds like an advertisement. Read WP:NPOV and work to make the article not sound like an ad for the group (note just because it is non-profit doesn't mean the article can't be promotional - but that's not acceptable). What solution can you offer that allows some discussion (in main space) about who was the Pharaoh contemporary with Abraham, Joseph, Moses (and also the Isralites who were in Egypt for 430 years and grew from 70 to 2 million in that time). I understand about what you say about original research and reliable sources but your policies put Christianity at a disadvantage because you do not accept the Bible as a reliable source of Historical information.--Drnhawkins (talk) 14:37, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

It's still got some stuff from an old one I did. My brain isn't functioning right now very well - we need to specify both the problems and the behavior we are asking for, but as I said at AN when someone doesn't understand the principles you are asking them to follow, they can agree and yet not follow them. As I typed that I thought "Does that matter, if they show they can't follow them then we can take further steps". So maybe it is more straight forward than I thought. Hello Lady, I'm Nole, and I've been one of the the main editors in regards to Ehsan's article. On that talk, you mentioned a "friendly Dutchman" and I wanted to point out two profiles published in Dutch newspapers that I haven't been able use, due to the language barrier. (Those two, along with the other main sources, are found here.) I've asked around at WP:WPNetherlands, and got no response, and my next course of action was going to be to find an individual editor who could translate it. Hi Lady, are you an admin? The Nair article is coming under attack from off-wiki canvassing + Yogesh's crowd. It has not long come off semi-protection. User:Boing! said Zebedee usually sorts it out but appears to be offline. Could do with the IP edit being reverted (the one adding cite requests, subsequently dated by HelpfulPixiebot) and then semi-protection put on, if only until Boing turns up. I don't know if you saw the talk page but the conversation was highly personal and harrassing, tendentious and unproductive. In recent weeks this has always been a prelude to warring on these articles as various meats come in to snip away at the cited content, regardless of what may be happening in the (usually fractious) discussions. There is a small group involved on wiki and several of us (including Boing) are of the opinion that they are co-ordinating stuff off-wiki for what, frankly, amounts to vandalism. How the on-wiki group have avoided blocks for disruptive behaviour is beyond me (although one of them was blocked for 24 hours for posting that blog thing after been warned to stop doing so, and an IP has just had the same treatment). I'll take these in reverse order. As for the book title, I believe Drmies translated it as The Wise Road. As he's a native speaker of Dutch, and I do not speak it at all, I will not presume to try to improve upon his translation. If you feel The Wise Way is a better translation, you can change it, or propose the change on the article talk page, but I'll not do it.
