Proposed deletion of Hai Ti![edit]

The article Hai Ti! has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no clear claim to notability

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Identifying a source[edit]

There's a rather drawn-out deletion discussion about the article Joachim Cronman going on. I'm in the process of checking the Swedish references, but there's a Finnish one that is proving a bit more problematic since it's only through Google Books, which doesn't seem to provide complete publication info. I know that it a Finnish historic periodical, but I can't figure out exactly which one nor the exact year of publication, so I can't search for it in Swedish libraries. Do you think you could help specify this source properly? It's the one entitled Historiallinen aikakauskirja (note 2) in the Cronman-article.

Peter Isotalo 22:40, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I went to the online contents page of Historiallinen aikakauskirja [1], and downloaded every single PDF file there, looking for an article that matches the one quoted on Google Books, based on the page number. I didn't find any even close. The online contents page only begins at the last issue of 2001, so if there's any issue containing that article, it must have appeared before the last issue of 2001. Thank you for writing the article on Janne Aikala, a sad story about a boy. He was a little mischevous but that does not excuse the killing at all. Suomi Finland 2009 (talk) 16:16, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Finnish and Hungarian[edit]

I noticed you're a native Finnish speaker. Just out of curiosity, when you read/study Hungarian, do you feel any immediate similarities that make it easier to learn than, say, Japanese or Arabic? I mean, do you think it's any like an Englishman studying German, or like an Englishman studying Russian, etc? Thanks for your help -- don't feel obliged to reply if you're busy. --71.111.194.50 (talk) 17:41, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hungarian is not closely enough related to Finnish for me to feel any immediate similarities, for me it is like any other foreign European language, such as Swedish, English, German or French. For me, Hungarian is actually more difficult than Swedish, English or German, but that's only because I've spent over a decade studying and using all three of those languages, but I have only studied Hungarian for a half a year and have had next to no opportunity to use Hungarian, so I've almost completely forgot it. Compared to Japanese or Arabic though, Hungarian is much easier, because Japanese and Arabic are even less related to Finnish. As to your analogies, it would be like an Englishman studying Russian. Now I have to mention Estonian - that is very closely related to Finnish, so a Finn studying Estonian would be like an Englishman studying German, or even almost like a Swede studying Norwegian. They're closely enough related that when I'm in Tallinn, I don't even bother to try to speak Estonian - I speak Finnish and hope the locals understand enough of it. Outside Tallinn, Finnish is not so easily understood though. JIP | Talk 17:49, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Newbie treatment[edit]

Hey there! As you have been editing an article that User:IHaveaSpoon created, I am telling you that you became a participant in WP:NEWT. The meaning of it is to see how more experienced editors deal with newbies that create new articles. I apologise that I have spent your time. You can discuss about this in Wikipedia:Newbie treatment at CSD/Ilyushka88 where I have explained how things were going with the articles I created.

Again, sorry for the misrepresentation. If there's anything I can do to make up for your lost time, please let me know.  Ilyushka88 Talk to me 11:48, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message. I had no idea of this WP:NEWT project. I follow AlexArtBot's FinlandSearchResult pages semi-regularly, and usually, when I spot an article about a notable Finnish person, place, event or other thing that is off to a good start, but not yet quite wikified, I go ahead and wikify it. The article Maria Jotuni was no exception. JIP | Talk 21:05, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of "Megaloping"[edit]

Hello,

I didn't create the page "Megaloping," but was one of the two individuals involved in the project that was responsible for its creation. I was only vaguely familiar with the original article and remember it more as a stub and a dicdef, but I would be happy to recreate the page, citing our work, as a more comprehensive article. Unfortunately I don't have a saved copy of its previous incarnation, but would be happy to modify the page were it to be restored with respect to your parameters.

Curiously, the term now appears in more articles than before, such as a subsection in "backpacking" and on the actual "megalopolis" page, without appropriate attribution to our project...

For more information on the project directly, see our site.

Best, The Megalopers

The article has now been undeleted and moved to your own userspace at User:Stardove07/Megaloping. Feel free to edit it there, and once you're finished, move it back to the main namespace. It will then be used like any other Wikipedia article. JIP | Talk 20:27, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Red Velvet[edit]

Hi,

I'm the producer of a new horror movie called RED VELVET. I've tried a couple times now to start a Wikipedia page for this movie, using other indie films as a template and guide, but it's been deleted twice now. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your kind assistance. Sean Fernald (Producer, Red Velvet)

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Oranj23 (talkcontribs)

Hello, since I moved this comment from User:JIP to here, I will go ahead and answer it as well...
Red Velvet was deleted under the proposed deletion process. In this process, if an article is nominated for deletion and no one objects with 7 days, it is deleted. However, it can also be restored upon request at any time. Since you are clearly wanting it restored, I will go ahead and do so. However, for the article to stay around in the long run, you are going to have to prove that the subject is notable. That means you will have to find third party reliable sources talking about the movie. That might include news coverage or reviews from well-known critics, but can't include mere announcements "Red Velvet will play at X theatre on Y date" or fan reviews.
If you have any further questions, you may reply here or ask me directly, ThaddeusB (talk) 21:16, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(Note to JIP: Although Oranj23 did mess up your userspace earlier, it is pretty clear they did so b/c they had no clue what they were doing. I can understand why you thought it was vandalism, as that is often the case in these situations. However, it wouldn't hurt to explain to the user what a talk page is next time instead of just warning them not to do it again under threat of block. Thanks for your consideration, ThaddeusB (talk) 21:53, 4 December 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Thanks for the comments and replies. I see Red Velvet has been restored now. I deleted the article mostly as a routine clean-up task and had nothing personally against it. The reason I accused User:Oranj23 was because of these edits: [2] [3] following the edit when he added a comment on my user page. If they had not been made I would not have reacted so strongly. I didn't even notice the comment until I had already undone the edits. Wikipedia displays a great little sign saying "You have new messages" every time my talk page is edited, but not when my user page is edited. So I simply didn't notice Oranj23's comments. Checkmarx deletion[edit]

Hi,

I'm posting the following request to all people participating in Checkmarx speedy deletion, hoping for a reconsideration.

A couple of weeks ago, Checkmarx was deleted from Wikipedia. It was a speedy deletion, and I didn't even have an opportunity to be there to defend myself, and this value in Wikipedia. I'm including "myself" here, because there was a personal attack on me as a user, and I don't think it was naive.

Just a reminder - a month ago, a user named Xodlop requested a Speedy-Deletion of the article named "Checkmarx". The reasons were, among others: notability, the author works for the company, many references are pointed to the company web site and after all - "it's an advertisement for non notable company".

Yes, I work for Checkmarx, and I think it is only natural that a worker of a company (just like a student of a well-known philosopher for example) would write about his company. I never tried to hide this relation; actually when I tried to put some personal info in my page, so people can contact me, if needed, I was suggested by an administrator not to do so. But I am using my name and affiliation proudly, not hiding.
I did my best to make a non-promotional article. Actually I copied the article of another company (Fortify Software, which is the leading company in the area of source code analysis today), and just "translated" it for Checkmarx. I got many requests for changes, from various administrators (and a lot of help, some of which you might find in my talk page or the Checkmarx talk page), changed according to all requests, and from a certain point I got no more about the article. And it's there for a couple of months already.

Yes, some references are from the company's website (as all articles contain) or companies related to it. Some are not (OWASP, CWE and alike).
Yes, Checkmarx is an average software company, but I completely disagree it is non-notable in the area of Source Code Analysis. The company is certainly a notable company in this field (which might be non-notable as a field, but I don't think it is), and known as one for every person dealing in this area. If Checkmarx is non-notable, I guess all (most?) other companies listed in the list of tools for Source Code Analysis (in Wikipedia) should be non-notable as well.

Still, they are not, for some reason.

I wanted to ask the user Xodlop why he/she asked for deletion of this company of all Source code Analysis companies, but the user does not exist anymore, for some reason (actually there's only a "welcome" message in his/her talk page dating 2 days AFTER the deletion request. Strange. I cannot "fight" ghosts.

So what do we have here?
A non-existent user asks for fast-deletion.
The company's article was no different than others, and (like others) was more than once cleaned from what looked like advertisements.
The article was there for a long time, and approved by more than one administrator. Where were you when I got all the comments on the article, and fixed them one by one? It was a lot of work, and I got good responses.
(correct me if I'm wrong here) All the participants were not experts on the field of Source Code Analysis, so notability in this area couldn't really be decided. It is very easy (and unfair, I think) to convince people about notability in an area they do not master. I'm sure my mother will be convinced that even Oracle (for example) is not-notable if I try to convince her. I can tell her it's a small non-notable competitor of Microsoft's minor product (SQL-Server), and show her there is no coverage of it in any book she reads.
There is coverage of the company - not very large, but it appears in relevant places (Application Security sources).

I'm sorry I wasn't around for a while to "defend myself" and the article. It was very quick, you know. As Xodlop him/herself mentioned - I was easy to access.

Thanks for reading to this point. I appreciate it.

I truly hope you reconsider.

Thanks, I read your message. It was very helpful. I think what I have to do next is to book a hotel very near the centre of Kraków and then have a closer look at the maps you provided a link to and the tourist guide I bought. I will be spending a time span of almost 60 hours in Kraków, arriving in early afternoon and departing in late evening two days after that, but in that period, I will be spending only one full day (from midnight to midnight) in Kraków. JIP | Talk 19:53, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it's not that difficult to spend even an entire life in the city and not be bored :) Kraków is (I hope this does not sound as if quoted from a guidebook) really rich in interesting sights and places for all. I will definitely recommend a stroll along the streets of the old town, the same goes for the Kazimierz district; I will suggest to you that you visit the Kościuszko Mound, the castle of Wawel, see the Błonia Park (although it's not really a park, just a large trangular meadow, but focus on large), try the zapiekanki in the centre of Kazimierz... or go to the Nowa Huta district and take a look at that socialist district and how it was transformed. Or go here and see the enormous historic submerged rock quarry with its stunning rocky surroundings (this was actually the second famous place I saw in Kraków after the old town, in effect of my dear friends' choice... is actually one of my favourite spots in the city). Have fun! --Ouro (blah blah) 05:41, 15 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
