Problemo sovled!

Fair use images

Hi, I noticed you added some Pokémon material to your user page. However, fair use images are not allowed on user pages according to fair use policy item 9. Also, please do not include your user page in categories such as Category:Grass Pokémon, as those categories are intended for articles. Pagrashtak 18:33, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thank you for being so kind! I only had them on my user page as part of the WP:PCP, as I have trouble remembering the design of infoboxes and tables. You were so kind as to incinuate that I had done it on purpose, when, if you have even bothered to look, was not the case.
Second of all, I am a new member of Wikipedia, and I somewhat doubt that you went through the entire fair use policy before writing a single word!
Third of all! I did not add my user page in categories such as "Grass-type Pokémon"! As I said, I am a new member that hadn't noticed that when you add in a user box with species type tags that it automatically adds the article onto the list! And amazingly, neither did you, so you have absolutely no right to hound me about it!
I appreciate that I shouldn't have had the images on my page, but I never knew that, so you had no right to be rude! I am just incredibly mad, because you successfully managed to completely insult me and be incredibly prejudice about it. Highway 19:01, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry you took offense, none was intended. It's understandable that you have not read the fair use policy; that's why I was informing you about it. Thank you for apologising, I just got slightly overamped. Well, perhaps a suggestion as to where I can do the work with the Pokémon infoboxes, if my user page isn't the right place. Is it possible to do it in your personal sandbox if you have one? If you can, it would be very helpful if you could tell me how to make one. I did look at your user page, that's how I noticed the images. ;) You can make your own user subpage to work on projects or just to store useful stuff, like User:HighwayCello/Pokémon, or whatever you would like to call it. The restrictions on fair use images and article categories apply to subpages also, but they allow you to keep your user page clean and organized. Pagrashtak 22:46, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  1. I didn't upload it but if you take a screenshjot from an emulator and crop it, you can copy and apply correctly the liscensing of the relevant image in Bulbasaur.
  2. No. Take a photo yourself and you can liscense it how you like ({{GFDL-self}}, {{PD-self}}).
  3. No idea. I dopn't think it takes up much bandwidth but I don't know.

  1. Emulators are widely available for google searches and Limewire. Try searching "GBA emulator" and "Pokemon Ruby ROM free".
  2. You can't take photos from the internet and upload them. Either take one yourself or don't include one at all.

1) Sorry - not sure what you mean when you say "I've taken about three new subjects". Maybe I'm being thick. What are you trying to say?
2) What type of image file are you trying to upload? Something standard like a .jpg or something exotic?

Yes, on talk pages you can start a new topic with three =s or by clicking on the + tab at the top between "edit this page" and "history".
The fact that you found the screenshot on a website shouldn't make it any more complicated, and it should work just fine as a JPEG. If you've having problems, try Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) - someone there's bound to be able to help. ONce an image is uploaded, you shouldn't have any bandwidth issues as it's then stored on Wikipedia's servers. Which is why people like me devote lots of time to deleting unsource, unlicensed and orphaned images. It's the Wikipedia servers that suffer, not the uploader's!
So, like I said, if you're still having problems try the technical Village Pump board and see if someone can help you out. CLW 20:39, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Failure of Queen article

  • I don't buy your failure for one second. You judged it on intenstely high standards. Okay, so there were a couple of grammar usages you didn't like. That just means the article isn't ready to become Featured. The assertation that a few sentences that you felt could be improved mean that the article isn't good is ridiculous. Some of the complaints aren't even valid - why should I define terms such as "arena rock" and "glam rock" within the article? They have separate pages! That's what they're for! Adding defenitions would simply lower the quality of the article. The article is absolutely a good article - I'm putting it back up for nomination right now, and I ask you to not to judge it (or any other article nominated to become good) any more, because you do not seem to be clear on the difference between "good" and "Featured".   • I encourage you to actually read my statements before concluding that I'm harassing you and making personal attacks. At no point in my above statment did I disparage you personally. I simply did (and do) think that you're holding articles to far too high a standard.

Additionally, you may not realize this, but the Beatles are, by far, the highest maintained group on English Wikipedia. There are literally over a dozen Beatles-related articles that are Featured, and some (such as the Sgt. Pepper's article) are just short of being Featured. I agree with Corbin in this respect, getting yelled at does suck. But, I don't feel you were yelled at. You were talked to frankly and curtly for what are high standards that you're setting. He has no right, to my knowledge, banning you from the GA process but he certainly wasn't personally attacking you. The article ascension process is tough (you'll find that out soon enough, especially with a Pokemon article and I should kniow better than anyone ;)) but so long as everyone is civil and respectful, it shouldn't be too stressful. I recommend you take a look at your standards (I feel that they are in fact a tad high) and strike out your PA claim, it was (in my opinion) unfounded. If you have reviewed an article (regardless of decision) you should remove it from Wikipedia:Good articles/Nominations to prevent confusion.

I thought I did that. [1] But it seems that a non IP user readded it after rewriting the lead section . [2]

The main problem with your review was that it wasn't very in-depth, as you only commented on the introduction, and ignored the rest of the article.

That was really the only negative I saw on the article. Since it is a main component of denying promotion, shouldn't it still be removed? Or am I too harsh?

Thanks for the comments on Babur: I'm responsible for the page citations. I'm relatively new to Wikipedia and I was under the impression that we had to cite sources to support our arguments? In the first case I had changed the original sentence (which said that his name was derived from Babr, tiger) and had to justify it, and in the second somebody else had cited Tod inaccurately and I wanted to correct it (there was a row at one point with a someone trying to push a strongly pro-Rajput POV). In both cases the authors of these works, and the editors of the editions, have been dead for over 70 years and both books are out of copyright & frequently reprinted in India by different publishers. I'm not sure exactly how I acquire images without going to india and taking photographs, and there is nothing I can find in the commons. Okay, in Preferences, in the first tab, there's a field called Nickname, and below that, a checkbox marked Raw Signature. Check the checkbox, and then C'n'P this into the Nickname box:

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.

Reviewing good articles

I see you have set yourself a high standard as a reviewer of "good articles", including not contributing (including simple corrections) to an article you are reviewing. Of course, in the spirit of "so fix it", this seems to tick people off sometimes... personally, I have the following suggestion for you, which might keep you out of water hotter than you want to be in. Why not, if they are only minor tweeks, correct the things you think need correcting, but not alter the review status, leaving it for someone else to review? It's what I've taken to doing, and it works quite well. Also, I refuse to re-review articles I have previously failed, on the basis that the corrections made to them may in part have been the result of my comments or criticisms, so I have already contributed to the "feedback loop" for the article. Instead, what I might do is fail it, explain why I did so, try to make a couple of improvements, explain what else I think needs improving (usually the stuff beyond my power, knowledge or expertise) and sometimes even renominate the article when it looks like it's done. As a result, I don't think I've ever had negative comments directed at me after a review, even if I have been holding to a high standard and have been critical. Also, the fact I can never fail anything twice makes it obvious that I've not got anything personal against anyone! (In fact it's probably a good thing for different reviewers to get involved since it brings fresh insights and probably brings more uniform standards, since each reviewer can have a look at the rationale and thinking of the last) I don't know if these pointers will be helpful to you, but they have worked pretty well for me. You've certainly done a lot of good work on the WikiProject, I think it would be a shame if you get scared off doing more by people unhappy with the work your put in to your reviews! Hey, I'm glad you like your new user page! :D Since you use an activity indicator, I've added a tool written by Topaz for you to update your status with one click. You should notice a 'status changer' panel under 'toolbox' on the left side of your screen or a few buttons in your upper-right personal toolbar that give(s) you the choices online, busy, or offline. Right now, you're 'online'. Click 'busy' or 'offline', go to your user page (or refresh it if you're already there), and see what happens! Friends intro

Hey. Sorry, I had to revert your intro changes to the Friends page until we could clean it up a bit. While I think you might be right that it needs to be revamped, there were a few problems with your version that I wanted to talk to you about:

  • Though slightly more unwiedly, the part about the twenty-somethings and thirty-somethings is much more accurate than middle-aged
  • NBC should definately be included in the intro
  • Bright/Kauffman/Crane Productions probably isn't important enough to mention in the first sentence
  • A few formatting problems including the links to Friends broadcast details and September 22, 1994

I tried just cleaning up your version, but I wasn't clear enough about your thought process to fix it up, so I just reverted it. The attributions are verified, including, in at least one case the deputy coroner. There is no policy against such lists, and it serves a useful purpose in identifying deaths that have, in fact, been attributed to c&vg by reputable source. Our discussion...

I've checked your contribs (and now your user page) and can see how you may have thought I was having a go - I wasn't honest - my first instinct was to mention star wars characters but the fingers got to pokemon first. I have seen many well written examples of both and don't have a problem with fancruft at all, I just had an agenda of depth of coverage. In fact even the word fancruft is only in my vocabulary in recent weeks due to reading talk pages of GA and FA related things. Maybe you are correct and I can add a bit more before nominating. Please take it as fact that the pokemon comment was merely coincidence. I have put a lot of work into GA including a lot of work with TheGrappler on the main page and also nominating articles. I felt your singling me out with the 90% fail thing was a bit harsh but in no way do I want to offend you. I still think your reviews are a bit harsh but by the same token that can only benefit the articles in the long run. Maybe when I feel less defensive I'll come back to your limits idea. Hey - I appreciate the apology, I also appreciate the reviews you do and I'm sure others do too, even though they are hard and you get hassle. You are thorough and wikipedia REALLY needs that. Maybe you should help out at FA and do GA for fun? To me the whole wikipedia should be fun or else we may as well be getting paid for it... Your reviewing talents would be appreciated at either project, and "...you can't make an omelete without breaking some eggs", or something, but sometimes just a bit more tact would help smooth things along. Look no hard feelings from me. You know where I'm coming from and if you do believe I don't vet the articles enough there are loads more to look at. Alternatively if you feel pressurised then have a look at something else. My focus changes regularly, I've gone from Irish things to random to co-ordinates and maps to good articles. My main thing though is a drip drip of my own GFDL image for wiki. It's a win-win as I enjoy taking pics and when I take my own pics I get a few for wiki. South Park episode moving

Why are you moving all the recent South Park episode articles? Has WP policy changed recently on the naming of these articles? I thought that the paranthetical information was only used where there was a need for disambiguation. –– Swid (talk | edits) 16:29, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If it was an honest mistake, that's cool. It's just that article titles only need to contain a reference to the series they belong to when there's more than one article with the same (or similar) titles; in the case you cited, The Pilot (Friends) needs to have the title that it does because many, many TV shows have episode names that are simply "Pilot" (and pilot has many other meanings, anyway). In these particular cases, there are no other articles with titles that are close enough to Smug Alert! or Cartoon Wars that any further clarification is not needed. – Swid (talk | edits) 16:41, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
