Hi, Grandpafootsoldier, Welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope you like this place — I sure do — and want to stay. Before getting too in-depth, you may want to read about the Five pillars of Wikipedia and simplified ruleset. If you need help on how to title new articles check out the naming conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the manual of style. If you need help look at Wikipedia:Help and the FAQ , plus if you can't find your answer there, check the Village Pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions)! There's still more help at the Tutorial and Policy Library. Plus, don't forget to visit the Community Portal. And if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my user talk page or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will be by to help you shortly.

Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the 'pedia!

  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills the Sandbox is for you.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes (~). If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Five will get you the datestamp only.
  • You may want to add yourself to the new user log.
  • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.
  • If you're still entirely confused, or would like to get a better grasp of your wikipedia skills, and you have an IRC client (or don't mind getting one), check out the Bootcamp. It's not what it sounds like, but it is fun and can help you with your editing skills.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random page button in the sidebar, or check out the Open Task message in the Community Portal.

Like articles, you can submit Images for speedy deletion. Especially when they've been uploaded in error or break some rule. Just add {{db-author}} or {{db|your reason}} to the top of the image information page and an administrator will drop by to delete it. It works a lot faster than the IFD process. - —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MacGyverMagic (talkcontribs) .

That statement on my page was written some time ago. I forgot to update it. My general position is that pages should not be dedicated to a subject unless you can write a sufficient amount without getting into "fancruft" territory. The page currently seems to be alright in that respect.--Drat (Talk) 00:08, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

Fictional Companies

Do you support infoboxes for fictional companies?

Yes, I do. There are many fictional organization pages on Wikipedia, such as the Galactic Empire from Star Wars for example, which use them to great effect. Why shouldn't fictional companies be allowed to do so as well? I really believe user A Man in Black has gone over the top with his excessively strict policy on this.
Oh, and by the way Shanequinlan01, if you are going to post a message like this it would help if you would leave you sig at the end so I can easily see who left it. Thanks ;) -- Grandpafootsoldier

Ok. Noted.

Image tagging for Image:IdahoGem.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:IdahoGem.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 07:08, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. I have provided more detailed info on the pic. -- Grandpafootsoldier 18:21, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Hey

I’m Taiwanese-American, so I also support the independence of Taiwan! Most of my politics are also the same, including the computer stuff. Anyways, keep up the contributions to Wikipedia! Jumping cheese Contact 23:33, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

Yeah...most people on Wikipedia love cats (I hate cats) and hold rather radical views. I try to balance that out. Thanxs for the offer of help. I'll keep that in mind if I need any help (don't worry, I rarely need help). Have fun editing! ^_^ Jumping cheese Contact 06:57, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Schoolgirl.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Schoolgirl.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so please also include the source of the image; in most cases the website where you found it.

Please signify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 16:36, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I have left an extended message on your talk page as I'm not quite sure about the reasons you have given. Thanks -- Grandpafootsoldier 17:55, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Another image you have deleted

The image had no source, which is a requirement. I added one and removed the tag. -Nv8200p talk 13:46, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Thank You

Thanks for adding the picture of the Time Magazine cover in the The Race of the Future article. Coolguy1368 17:58 13 September 2006

You willing to go ahead with some merging on those articles? Petros471 13:12, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Deus Ex

I'll try to think of something. I won't be able to do much until Tuesday. The changes you have been making though are definately moving it on its way though. At the moment, I'd suggest information on the plot of course, with an in-universe summary and out of universe information, and an explanation of the gameplay (sourced of course) including information on the nature of the skill and augmentation systems. Comments from reviewers on the same would be handy. Isn't there a Gamasutra postmortem? That'd be an excellent resource.--Drat (Talk) 09:22, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

You are in danger of violating the three-revert rule on a page. Please cease further reverts or you may be blocked from further editing. -- Ned Scott 02:37, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

in reply to your message:

I don't think it's as obvious as your Doom example. Three editors have now disagreed with you on that section. WP:OR explains what is or isn't OR. There are gray-areas, indeed, but if there is dispute on those areas then it's not only a violation of NOR but a violation of WP:NPOV as well. -- Ned Scott 02:59, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:VonBraun2.1.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:VonBraun2.1.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
