vandalism at Kachhwaha

Hello, Fylindfotberserk. An ungesitered editor/IP has recently engaged in unconstructive behavior at Kachhwaha. Any advice on how to manage this situation if it persists? Can I request some level of protection of the page if vandalism continues and how and from who? Can I come to you for help? Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 06:21, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

@Мастер Шторм: Hi, this is sockfarm User:Showbiz826. Recently being disruptive in a lot of Rajput-related articles, replacing content with their preferred version without discussion. You can see that they are partially blocked from many articles. I've requested PP here for Kachhwaha. You can file an SPI here or file one in WP:ANI if disruption persists. A full range block seems necessary. Alivardi knows about the sockfarm quite well. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:12, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, Fylindfotberserk and Alivardi. I really value the guidance and help. Soft and warm bear hugs to both of you )) Thanks, Мастер Шторм (talk) 13:28, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

@Aristocratic 536:, Excuse Me Maadam can't be moved to Excuse Me Madam. Since Excuse Me Madam was deleted in the past by Jackmcbarn, you have to contact/discuss with him as per instructions in the link red banner.
As for the the "notability" banner at the top in May I Come In Madam, you are the one who added it when you recreated the article here. You are free to remove it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:17, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Bodo/Boro

Bodo/Boro is not group it a language, we will take top most figure or total language strength. Eulerfan1999 (talk) 11:42, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

@Eulerfan1999: Nope, The Bodo in teh census is teh language group which includes Kacharis, and others. Note that the census includes Rajbanshi, Chakma and Hajong among others in the Bengali group. And a lot more in the Hindi group, including Bhojpuri, Mewati, Garhwali, etc. If we keep the group numbers, then the language figures will be meaningless. This can't happen. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:02, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

You are correct

Really you are correct. I will do InshaAllah — Preceding unsigned comment added by Weareme234 (talkcontribs) 10:37, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

Socking is...

Hey there, re: this, editing while logged-out isn't itself against the rules, because anyone can either make a mistake or be on holiday. But if it looks like someone is editing while logged out to avoid scrutiny of controversial or otherwise problematic edits, that would likely be considered socking. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:34, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb: I agree, but I've seen that behavior form that particular user before. Anyway, is edit warring using a user/IP combo is against the rules? Just asking. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:38, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
If it appears that someone is deliberately logging out to engage in disruption, yes. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:04, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

Disruptive new user

Hi, can you keep a look at the edits of Onantory007, a new user who seems hell bent on anachronistically adding Bangladesh/Bangladeshi to Indian bio articles to anyone who happened to be born in territories in present-day Bangladesh. Has WP:POVPUSHed to add birth places in lead sentences in violation of MOS:BIO (to push Bangladesh in the lead), has added ethnicities in violation of WP:ETHNICITY and native scripts in violation of WP:INDICSCRIPTS. Please keep an eye here appears to be highly disruptive. Gotitbro (talk) 04:36, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

@Gotitbro: All these POV pushers from neighbouring countries I tell you. And there are some from Canada/UK. I have to revert IP edits that change "Indian" to "Punjabi" in Punjabi-language singer/actor articles often. I'll keep an eye. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:19, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for reverting the recent spate of Nepalese POVPUSH vandalism from the IP 27.34.48.109. The vandal has been active since at least late last year, likely earlier, from IP addresses usually starting with 27.34.* (keep an eye on edits from this range). Articles disrupted by him include Adrian Pradhan, Indian Gorkha, Gopal Yonzon, Aruna Lama, Ranjit Gazmer, Hira Devi Waiba, Tulsi Ghimire, Shrawan Ghimire, Niruta Singh, Phiroj Shyangden, Poornima (singer), Sunil Chhetri, Bipul Chettri, Prashant Tamang, Aditya Narayan, Prem Singh Tamang, Raju Bista, Bimal Gurung and almost every other person listed at Indian Gorkha#Notable persons [please see if you can add these articles to your watchlist]. The vandal has also extensively added the category Category:Indian people of Nepalese descent to disrupted articles, please note that this category should be limited to persons whose parents/ancestors actually held Nepalese citizenship which is mentioned in the article itself not to people from the Indian Gorkha group (you seem to have missed this in your recent reverts). Gotitbro (talk) 20:50, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
@Gotitbro: Some are in my watchlist. I'll keep an eye on the others. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:11, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
God job dealing with the latest spate of vandalism from the Nepalese POVPUSHer. You missed Neeraj Zimba, Damber Singh Gurung please see if you can watch them as well. Thanks. Gotitbro (talk) 07:59, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Sorry for troubling you again but a lot of Bangladeshi vandal IPs and users have become active in recent days similar to the user above (making the same POVPUSH edits). Can you please keep an eye on Radhabinod Pal, and these which were disrupted by the initial user above: Mrinal Sen, Ritwik Ghatak, Bimal Roy, Suchitra Sen, Satyajit Ray. Thanks. PS: Please do not loose your cool over vandals in edit summaries or otherwise (as you did here, here, here and here), this reflects badly on your account and gives further ammo to the vandals. Gotitbro (talk) 04:31, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
@Gotitbro: Yeah, WP:DNFT. I'm cool, used to be member of many internet groups since 2005, we know the lolz. These are "nausikhiyas", can only give "gaalis". The more they troll, the more they are revealing about themselves. That's why I retaliate sometimes, that helps me dig newer accounts. They get seriously offended when I reveal their old stale or lurking accounts. Only thing is they are embarrassing the whole nation that way. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:39, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
As for the nationalistic POVs from our neighbours, I'll keep a look at those. I've watchlisted many of the Nepali ones. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:39, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
Are you watching the Marwari people page? The above Nepalese POVPUSHer is now targeting that and has in the past as well, please see if you can keep an eye. Gotitbro (talk) 09:20, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
@Gotitbro: Yes, it is in my watchlist. I check my watchlist from the bottom, yet to reach it. Thanks for reverting that. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:29, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Another ethnic POVPUSHer, using the IPs (so far) 24.188.19.217, 24.188.19.141, has popped up recently removing nationalities and disruptively adding Bengali in leads and elsewhere. Has repeatedly targeted Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones among others. Can you keep an eye on these and the 24.188.19.* range in general. Thanks. Gotitbro (talk) 04:22, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
@Gotitbro: Thanks. I'll keep an eye. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:18, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Can you watch the Amjad Khan (actor), Nasir Khan (actor), Kader Khan and Yash Johar articles? Vandal IPs and new users keep POVPUSHing by either disrupting sourced information on birthplaces or replacing that with mostly WP:CIRCULAR citations (someone added unreferenced information to Wikipedia that is repeated by online news websites which these users try to add). I've tried to correct this by using the oldest or most reliable sources (many online Indian newspapers aren't and just repeat information from wiki, likewise databases which pull info from wiki/IMDb aren't reliable either). Please see if you keep an eye on these articles and the disruptive edits/circular references. Thanks. Gotitbro (talk) 06:43, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
@Gotitbro: Do you think this Times Now source is circular? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:08, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes, that is most likely circular as well it says the same thing as the wiki article around the time, please remove it. Indian news channels and online news articles are likely to be circular, the only sources that should be considered reliable are first hand interviews or sources listed as reliable [green tick] at WP:Perennial sources. Gotitbro (talk) 07:23, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
@Gotitbro:  Done, Times Now is not deprecated as of now. And is considered WP:RS here in RSN. But it is better to steer clear of biography articles like these. Recently, in WP:ICTF, we have deprecated TOI profiles. I personally use different sources for different aspects like DoB, birth place, education, personal life, etc. Most of the time when we are dealing with a single aspect, the news sources turn out to be reliable and especially if the agency is ANI, IANS or PTI. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:40, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
  • Thanks for raking care of the POVPUSHer, Luwanglinux, at Meitei people but you missed the Kangleipak addition in your reverts. Kangleipak is an alternative term for Manipur used by severe ethnic POVPUSHers and should be removed at the first instance if its inserted without any context to leads/ibs etc. Gotitbro (talk) 11:11, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
@Gotitbro:We got him blocked once. I'll take care of that. Could you take a look at this one. Known POV pusher and edit warrior who have been warned multiple times, keeps changing India→Indus or Pakistan, removing Hinduism in anything Pakistan related, prefers to replace that to Buddhism or something obscure; and Indian subcontinent→South Asia and remwith vague edit summaries. See [1], [2]. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:27, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

We discovered another new one. Ugh. Chaipau (talk) 19:22, 9 November 2020 (UTC)

@Chaipau: I was going to ping you about that Facepalm Facepalm. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:27, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
I see no respite from the user that is disrupting the Kamarupa and other articles. As you know, I have engaged with him AGF in the past, but it does not work. I see no solution other than protecting the pages, keeping the talk pages open so that all can discuss and help improve them. Chaipau (talk) 09:37, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
@Chaipau: Have you requested pp? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:43, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes, in ANI here: Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Targeting_Kamarupa_and_Varman_dynasty;_possible_WP:BE_by_dynamic_IP_editor_-_requesting_semi-protection. I am not aware where else I could request for it. Chaipau (talk) 09:46, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
@Chaipau: Yup WP:ANI is better than WP:RPP, since the POV pusher needs to be taken care of alongwith request for multiple page protections at the same time. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:11, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

User Eswnav making his hard and mad fan based edits over article Vani Bhojan. When we analyse his recent to old edits Eswnav keep editing more to that article continuously and regularly...So i edited it and filtered out the unwanted ,unimportant and irrelevant contents from the article Vani Bhojan.but user always make undone over my edits to that page continuosly even i warned him/her.We are not here to promote a brand or artist..What needed for the article is provided..User Esnav keep advertising and promoting the article as a brand

Kindly take action against this Riya Iyer S Menon (talk) 15:06, 10 November 2020 (UTC) C)

Hi! First of all I'm not a mad fan of Vani Bhojan. @Fylindfotberserk:, Can you see Vani Bhojan article and edit based on unwanted, unimportant and irrelevant contents from the article Vani Bhojan. Now I undone edit of Riya Iyer S Menon then you edit sir. My Humble request to you sir. Eswnav (talk) 03:57, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
@Riya Iyer S Menon and Eswnav: Hi, I believe the two of you should discuss it in the article talk page since Wikipedia is a collaborative project. As for the current version [3], it doesn't look bad. Though there is always room to make it better and tighter, but I don't think removing huge chunks of content is a better idea, especially since those are sourced. Instead, you guys should focus more on the wordings and tone. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:13, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Undiscussed page move and lead edits over at the Government of India page

Hi Fylind, a user by the name of Addie666 moved the page without discussion and then proceeded to make changes to the lead without adequate sourcing or discussion. Warning the user hasn't seemed to work. Their other edits also seem to be problematic with the same pattern of selective content removal and unsourced changed following throughout. I haven't reverted any more on the aforementioned page due to discretionary sanctions and to avoid edit warring, do look into this issue and the user in question and let me know what should be done from here on. Prolix 💬 18:59, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

@Prolix: I saw that. Next time, after a final warning, take them to WP:ANI. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 19:04, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Fylindfotberserk, user has been making such edits again without any discussion or sourcing. Will leave them another warning but won't revert as of now. Thanks, Fyl. Prolix 💬 19:10, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

Satyajit Ray

Hi, sorry you may need to run the date format script again on this article due to an edit conflict. Thanks LM150 17:23, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

@LM150: That's alright. It has be done . - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:41, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Vandalism on Sanga Page

Hello Mate, i Want to inform u that A Guy recently add very poor edits on Rana Sanga Page and details are so much that i cant revert without rollbacker i am not yet a rollbacker kindly u revert those edits on Sanga Page to stable version by Jelly sandwitch. Thanks. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 03:37, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

@Aristocratic 536: That looks like a sock. Reported as SPI. Also @Alivardi: could you verify this. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:33, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

What is a Sock reported by SPI???? ,Also I inform u about that as I was looking to kept the page clean but reverting so lengthy edits without rollbackers is impossible. that's why I wrote to u. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 08:52, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

This one. Also the edit is huge, have to check each and every section properly. Looks like some of the content is well sourced, so notified Alivardi to check it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:13, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

What ever The source may be Edits are very Bad and unnecssary I also notify a user but he is yet to update the Page,Such edits need a Revert soon. Also Page of Sanga grandson Maharana Pratap too had many unreliable online citations and Pov edits u can check them too 👍👍. Thanks. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 09:35, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Can't revert unless it is vandalism or unsourced. Only parts of it can be removed depending on whether original researches, unreliable sources and unsourced material is there. That's why requested Alivardi, who is well-versed in Rajput topics, to check that. Also if the user is found to be a sock of the above describes, then we can WP:BANREVERT it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:47, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Its not About Good or Bad source Its repeating on information multiple times which is the case here One part is repeated again and Unnecssary details added, Its over a day now And yet the page isnt updated thats what is reall issue, Also notify him on talk page to get him alarmed. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 11:06, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Not seeing any obvious issues with the validity of the new content, though some of the language used is kinda problematic. A more thorough check may be needed but for now I think it's best to just wait for the outcome of the SPI. If the editor is confirmed to be a sock, then as Fylindfotberserk has already said, any and all of their edits can be reverted for being block violations.
Alivardi (talk) 12:03, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Alivardi. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:05, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Ok As for now I cleared the problematic langauges as much as i can and add good langauge in parts. Many parts werent Matching sources either,Thats why I removed many poor edits. Hope it goes fine.Aristocratic 536 (talk) 13:23, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Oh!!!! I am so sorry i didnt know that Spi was inspecting about Sock i thought u finalize the changes that why I removed Poor edits. Pardon me Guys, i will keep this things in Mind from now Onwards I just remove poor edits as responsible Editor Sorry Again 😐😐😐. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 13:49, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

@Aristocratic 536: Looks like you checked/removed some of the content in the Rana Sanga article. Note that the user has been indeffed as a confirmed sockpuppet. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:29, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Oh thats why i apologized i though that u confirm the page please revert mine part too i didnt edit i just try to improve tone of article which wasnt in wikipedia language. Pardon me. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 16:31, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

By the way A user jellysandwitch too edited the page kindly inform him too by the way which account were u talking about Jellysandwitch one???? Aristocratic 536 (talk) 16:34, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Thats why i was asking u to soon revert even though content added was also not matching the sources Aristocratic 536 (talk) 16:37, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Not Jelly, this one, the one who added large chunks of data in the Rana Sang article. Don't worry Jelly seem to be taking care of that article. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:39, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Oh alright, Cheers i too was just taking care of the page as language was horrible neither it was matching sources.Aristocratic 536 (talk) 16:47, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Why Links Not Pasting

Hello In the Page List of Rajputs there were many errors on part like Many notable Tv actor and singers are missing so i add name of Sunidhi Chauhan and Gajendra Chauhan i found a good citation of Starsunfolded too but unfortunately couldn't paste that due to A problem as The Link not saved what does that mean???? Will u save the citation???? Also in Cricketer section there are some errors. Aristocratic 536 (talk) 04:11, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

@Aristocratic 536: There is a reason many are not added. As per multiple consensus and discussions at WP:INB, we cannot add a person's caste in a BLP and also in a list like the above if the person hasn't "self-identified" his/her caste. That is, for a living person, it is essential that we have an interview or quote from a WP:RS source in which they say that they are Rajput, Jat, Gujjar, etc. This doesn't apply to dead people however. For example, Jaswant Singh's article didn't have any mention of Rajput when he was alive, but after his death, I myself added it, based on reliable news sources. Same thing I did for Pranab Mukherjee's article, added Brahmin after his death. I'm going to remove your additions since no self-identification is there. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:39, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Ok Now i Got it but for Up Cm Yogi Adityanath i add citation for which he said about being targeted for being a Rajput and Thakurwad in Hathras Rape Case. Also tell me then how For Historical Rajput figures Likes of Prithviraj Chauhan,Rana Sanga Maharana Pratap etc How we add their names then ???? Isn't it stange??? Aristocratic 536 (talk) 08:05, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Yogi Adityanath is alive, and the historical figures are dead. I've explained above that a living person needs a source in which he/she says something like "I am a Rajput". In the Yogi source, he was targeted for being a RAjput, he himself didn't say that he is a Rajput. He only said that he has companions from all castes. For example the source should be something like this, you can see that Ravindra Jadeja clearly says “We are Rajputs and all the elder men in my family sport this moustache, so I thought it’s time I also try it,” - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:11, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Just checking that you saw that he did Marathi in Braille; this is why I added the category. If you know for a fact that he was not the first, fine -- no question the article is fairly promo. Just checking. No reply necessary, I am not particularly invested in the topic. Just trying to get eyes on some articles that need them Elinruby (talk) 09:39, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

@Elinruby: Actually I thought that BLP is not relevant in the See Also section, since the lead sentence started with "wildlife photographer, playwright, and painter, editor and director..". After going through the article, I was willing to revert my edit, but instead thought of adding his work, that is the Marathi language Braille magazine Sparshgyan, in the Marathi language article body. Hope that's an improvement over adding just his name in the "See also". - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:48, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Yep, that works for me. And if you know offhand how to tag that article for a copy-edit, please do. I was categorizing as a sort of high-tech fidgeting, and frankly can't be bothered to look the syntax up. Thanks for the listen. I stuck in the See also to de-orphan it, but as I recall I did this on several articles, so it's still not a concern. I agree that "wildlife photographer" does not really represent the rest of the bio Elinruby (talk) 09:56, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

Regarding a suggestion

Hi Fylindfotberserk, i have a doubt, can we use books by Anthropological Survey of India as citations Like this for temples related articles as per Wikipedia policies, Thanks. - MRRaja001 (talk) 01:22, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

@MRRaja001: Anthropological Survey of India (People of India) sources are largely not used/considered unreliable in Wikipedia. See this discussion, this revert by a veteran user, and the talk page discussion. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:41, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
@Fylindfotberserk: Okay mate, I'll go through it, Thanks. - MRRaja001 (talk) 06:54, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks Fylindfotberserk for being helpful to everyone. I hope you become an admin. You are very knowledgeable and friendly and humble. BTW, I have posted a message on @Aristocratic 536:'s page so other editors can help. LukeEmily (talk) 17:13, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
So nice of you LukeEmily. Appreciate that. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:20, 24 November 2020 (UTC)
I also have same opinion about Fylindfotberserk LukeEmily. Since the day I joined wikipedia he helped me a lot and apart from him the few other friendly ppl I find here are Bishonen and an another admin called Salvio. But let me tell u the guy asking for help from u above is a confirmed sockpuppet of Showbiz826.Remembered his disruption and abusive comments on Rajput???
@Heba Aisha: Thanks Heba. Well, I had a feeling that it is a sock obviously (could have pinpointed if delved in it), but I wasn't able to find any interaction between the two in articles I frequent. So it wasn't apparent right away although the edit summaries looked kinda familiar (similar to the IP edits (confirmed to ShowBiz) in various other articles that I watch). And anytime they would make some contentious edit like this, I had reverted them. There are many socks in Wikipedia, lurking or editing in other areas, until they gain ECP, that's whenn they start their disruptive activity, making them obvious. Are you talking about these abuses? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:37, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Yupp and they got blocked for abusing LukeEmily on Talk page of Rajput.Heba Aisha (talk) 11:40, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

@Heba Aisha: I wasn't able to find any sock of them specifically in the Rajput talk page, but I came across this guy. Seems like old-school caste warrior we'd typically find in late 200s-early 2010s Wikipedia. Talks about Scythian, Hun, etc, theories that got debunked by modern historians, and most importantly geneticists. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:34, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
He is blocked by admin cheers.Heba Aisha (talk) 16:21, 25 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes, Heba Aisha and Fylindfotberserk, he is temporarily but he said he would come back and removed sourced content within six months. He wrote to Heba in a very disrespectful way:

Well sourced content, it would change. You think only you are the editor Wikipedia. We will don't it within six months come what may. Get this straight you Bihari Muslim. Rana of Bharat (talk) 18:23, 23 November 2020 (UTC)

. Other thing I have found is Khas_people editors are indulging in WP:PUFFERY , genetics, racial theories and even claiming that they wrote the Vedas. However, the Rajputs in those areas were Shudra before 1790 so all those theories don't make any sense.LukeEmily (talk) 17:03, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Allen C. Fanger. "Marriage Prestations Among the Rajputs of the Kumaon Himalayas". The mankind quarterly - Volume 32(Volunu XXXII, Number 1-2, Fall/Winter 1991): 43–56. p.43[...]This research was partially funded by the Kutztown University of Pennsylvania Research Committee and the Department of Anthropology and Sociology.[...][p.43]PakhuRa Rajputs, as nearly all of the Rajputs in rural Kumaon, formerly were known as Khas-Rajputs, Khasiya or Khasiya and probably had Sudra rank[...][p.44]In the case of dowry, the kin of the bride provide her with property "... as a type of pre-mortem inheritance..." (Goody 1973:1). [...]Brideprice, by contrast, is a transaction in which property passes from the kin of the groom to the kin of the bride. I want to emphasize the kinof the bride rather than the bride herself[...] [p.47]The Thuljats did not allow any remarriage of widows or divorced women. Thul-jat Rajput males, however, could take Rajput women as concubines or secondary wives. Presumably, these "marriages" were done according to Rajput customs. I might point out here that what was marriage for the Rajput may have been merely the acquisition of a concubine for the Thul-jat. [p.47,48][...]Joshi, a keen observer of Kumaoni social organization, remarked that among the Khasa (i.e., Rajputs), "A woman is a chattel, who is purchased for one of the sons by the father of the family. The nature of the transaction is more the acquisition of a valuable article for the family than a contractual relationship between a man and a woman" (1929: 108). Prior to British rule (from 1815), a husband acquired almost complete control over his wife and her offspring. Indeed, a husband or his heirs had the right to sell her and her children into slavery. During the period of Gurkha rule over Kumaon (1790-1815), a tax was levied on the sale of wives and widows, and a duty was placed on their export (Joshi 1929:110; Walton 1911:132-133). This right to sell a wife, a widow, or her children eventually ceased under the British, but the custom was not completely eliminated. Berremen has reported this kind of "traffic in women" in the nearby district of Garhwal, among the culturally similar Garhwali Rajputs(1963:74-75), and in the 1960s I found this practice still occurring in a village near Pakhura."[...][p51]' "Sanskritization is the process by which a 'low' Hindu caste... changes its customs, ritual, ideology, and way of life in the direction of a high... caste. Generally such changes are followed by a claim to a higher position in the caste hierarchy than that traditionally conceded to the claimant caste by the local community" (Srinivas 1966:6).' Sanwal (1976:43-44) reports that the Khasa were elevated from Sudra to Rajput status during the reign of the Chand rajas (which ended in 1790). Pauw (1896:12) and Berreman (1963:130) indicate that the Rajputs of Garhwal were without the sacred thread (a traditional high caste ritual marker) until the twentieth century. [...] First of all, the Khasa long ago had achieved Rajput status.* This is clear from the fact that they are generally acknowledged to be Rajputs rather than Khasa or Sudra. [...][p.54]Although the Rajputs of today were formerly classified as Khasa and Sudra, there is little evidence of a jati-wide social mobility movement. In fact, they long ago successfully achieved their current Rajput status and rank. nevertheless, opportunities to observe orthodox role models of Rajput and Hindu behavior have dramatically increased in the twentieth century and undoubtedly constitute an important consideration in the change of marriage customs. LukeEmily (talk) 17:05, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

@LukeEmily: Edits at the Khas people article have destroyed it. Looks like this is the last stable version. Lol st this. They seriosuly beleive they are Iranian . Should study genetics. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:17, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Udham singh nagar languages

Why are you disregarding the information sourced from the district administration's webpage? Binsarhills (talk) 17:30, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

@Binsarhills: Because this only mentions them under "Language". Nothing to prove whether these are native/regional languages. The Kumaon on the other hand is a native language as source in Ethnologue (provided by me). Note that Hindi and Punjabi are not native languages of the region. You can find many reliable sources in support of this statement. Also note that Kumaoni is considered a Hindi dialect by the government, which is not something linguist agree upon. So this district source is not reliable and if you use it in the infobox under native, then it will be original research. Secondly, if you want to add other languages, then you have to add Bengali, Bhojpuri, and many others that have high amount of speakers in the district as per census. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:45, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Appreciate it. Thanks! Binsarhills (talk) 12:43, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
