Removal of categories from Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya

Hello dear, Recently you have removed categories: Assamese Novels, Assamese Literature from the mentioned article. Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya was closely associated with Assamese Literature and he was awarded Jnanpith for his Assamese novel Mrityunjay.That's why these categories were considered convenient to add in the article. @Ankur Jyoti Dewri: Thanks for communicating. It is a WP:OVERCAT issue. The category Assamese literature had all non-living things (novels, poems, books, etc) in it so adding a person's name, I felt irrelevant. Same is with Assamese novels which is also a Sub Category of "Assamese literature". As for Assamese people, I removed it because category Recipients of the Sahitya Akademi Award in Assamese is a subcategory within the former and I didn't find any reliable sources which mentions the subject's ethnicity which is something to be scrutinized if the article hopes to get a GA status in future. I've added the cat Assamese-language writers now which will be a middle ground with less POV despite it being a parent CAT to Recipients of the Sahitya Akademi Award in Assamese and a sub-CAT to Assamese people. Kindly take care of these things when adding CATs.
Another thing, can you tell be in exactly which time frame of this source, Arnab Goswami mentions his Assamese Brahmin descent? I understand Assamese, but don't want to watch the whole video. We can also timestamp it in the citation for users to verify Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:09, 28 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your clarification. And about that link which was supposed to back the claim of Arnab Goswami's ethnicity, I didn't add the source in the article, I just linked the already existing Assamese Brahmin word using brackets to the Article Assamese Brahmin. As you've mentioned, I agree that that this source is not a mere reliable one. I added the Category Assamese people because the article cited him as an Assamese. But I didn't really check the source because I thought this was edited upon the consensus made from the conversation going on over this issue on the article's talk page.

The video you asked me to check doesnt state anything about his ethnicity except the fact that he is from Guwahati, Assam. But a link given in the article leads to an article written by him where it says that he couldn't speak bengali when he was living in Culcutta. [1] this is a link I added to the article, which clearly states that he is an Assamese Brahmin. Ankur Jyoti Dewri (talk) 16:43, 28 June 2019 (UTC)

@Ankur Jyoti Dewri: Awesome work there Ankur. He clearly says he is an Assamese, that too in a verified YouTube channel video. It is definitely a pass. Thanks. I agree with you regarding the consensus on mentioning castes in BLPs. There are lots of similar BLPs where the caste of the person is mentioned apparently. Can such articles also be edited like this one ? Ankur Jyoti Dewri (talk) 10:28, 2 July 2019 (UTC)
@Ankur Jyoti Dewri: Yes there would be a lot of similar BLPs where unsourced caste/ethnicity is mentioned. Remove unsourced info wherever you find. Caste requires self-identification. Even if a reliable news source says that such and such person is a Jat or Brahmins, it is not admissible here. Have a look at my edits @List of Rajputs and List of Jats and the talks.
Only an "Interview/Self Identification in a Reliable Source" is acceptable. On the other hand, Ethnicity is acceptable without self identification but definitely needs a reliable source. If in the recent video source posted by you, Arnab called himself a Brahmin then there wouldn't be any problem. It would be logical to - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:46, 2 July 2019 (UTC)

i took my maximum effort to find out the best articles that i can for this actress from all the well known media India today, The Hindu, Tellychakkar, IVMBuzz. i had also seen that there is no plagarism for this article created. i referred to the articles created for the other famous Indian actors and i also followed all the guidelines given to me by wikipedia since the creation of my first page. So could you please elaborate what is wrong with my articles that you had deleted it.

Why does editor seem insistent of making him appear Gujarati despite him being only Gujarati from his grandmother's side? And how is an article from 2009 stating what he eats has any relevance to his ethnicity? UserGK23 (talk) 12:52, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Furthermore, this line "He follows a mostly Gujarati lifestyle at home, and eats Gujarati food such as vatanu shaak, rotli, daal and kadhi for lunch and dinner and frequently attends dandia-raas." is based off the views of the author Tanvi Trivedi and not Neil.

This line is apparently a quote from Neil "My grandmother was a Gujarati. So lunch and dinner at home comprise vatanu shaak, rotli, daal and kadhi. I never miss the dandia-raas back in Mumbai,��� he says." He just mentioned that his grandmother is Gujarati not that he follows a "Gujarati lifestyle" and does one's eating habits making him ethnically follow a certain lifestyle which is exclusive to a particular ethnicity?

"Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh almost follows a Gujarati lifestyle at home (his father being a half Gujarati)." This is a quote from author Tanvi Trivedi and not Neil. Not to mention the article is from 2009.

@UserGK23: I've moved that specific part to "Personal life" section since these are his personal choices. Removed assertion by article that he follows a Gujarati lifestyle as well. My personal thought, it doesn;t matter whether a person be Mathur or Gujarati or anything. If a person wishes to follow certain culture, he/she can do it irrespective of linguistic background. Again, how is what he eats relevant to his personal life in any way? Especially when it's an article about what he eats from 2009 - that is ten years ago. I'm sure there are celebs who eat all kinds of food - Italian, Chinese, Indian etc... It is not relevant to any section of the article. I eat KFC and McDonald's since i was a child. @UserGK23: It is relevant if the person openly flaunts it. It is a long standing content so it can't be deleted right away. If a person chooses to each a special variety of food and enjoys special variety of dance form and is open about it, who are we to remove judge that. What you are saying is your own POV. It can stay in the article. Secondly, if you get famous someday to have a Wiki article can you say you like Chinese food in a reliable news outlet, that can be added - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:57, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Can you cite some Wikipedia policies on biographies of living persons which back up your claims?

"It is a long standing content" - what is a long standing content? When was it added and if long standing content is irrelevant or incorrect then should it remain in the article? How long does something have to have remained on the site for it to be considered long standing content? This raises many questions.

This is a sourced content and it stays. You are obviously trying to force your point of view here. See WP:NPOV. A subject wants to eat certain food and enjoys certain culture and he has admitted it in the media. It stays. Please don't make assumptions about me. About Point of View, it seems to be the opposite. Your edit states "Neil eats Gujarati food such as vatanu shaak, rotli, daal and kadhi for lunch and dinner and frequently attends dandia-raas." This seems more like your point of view. Meanwhile, nowhere in the article does it say this. Nowhere is it mentioned that he eats Gujarati food, directly quoted from Neil.

These are all the apparent quotes from Neil in the article "My grandmother was a Gujarati. So lunch and dinner at home comprise vatanu shaak, rotli, daal and kadhi. I never miss the dandia-raas back in Mumbai,"

The rest of the article is a point of view from Tanvi Trivedi, the author of the article and not "Neil". Your edits do not match the quotes in the article.

I've edited the article from Neil's point of view. He himself says he eats Gujarati food and never misses Dandya. Self identification like that is enough to be mentioned in Wikipedia without any repercussion not to mention there is nothing defamatory about this. Nothing more from the article or POV of the author is mentioned. You are coming across as anti-anything to do with Gujarat. You cannot dictate what Mr. Neil Nilin Mukesh likes or wants in life. Again, do not make assumptions about me and stick to the topic, please. You are the only user who seems to have a problem with this so I must discuss this with you until we reach a consensus because if I do try to make any edits then you just revert them. Are you a moderator or administrator? Can you explain to me your position on this site? Do you only get to decide what stays and doesn't stay on the articles?

You made many claims and refused to back them up with Wikipedia policies. In fact, the article of NPOV you cited clearly states, "Avoid stating opinions as facts. Usually, articles will contain information about the significant opinions that have been expressed about their subjects. However, these opinions should not be stated in Wikipedia's voice. Rather, they should be attributed in the text to particular sources, or where justified, described as widespread views, etc. For example, an article should not state that "genocide is an evil action", but it may state that "genocide has been described by John X as the epitome of human evil.""

I also never said there was anything defamatory about the article. I was simply citing an example. Times of India is not some unquestionable source and the articles express the opinions of their journalists not of the public figures.

Nowhere in the article does it state that he eats Gujarati food and even if it did, it is irrelevant. You also failed to address your claims of it being "long standing content". You have failed to address my concerns and just made assumptions about me and hurled accusations. If you refuse to have a discussion on these issues and just revert every edit I make on this article then we must get a decision from someone higher up in the hierarchy.

You are just wasting my time. How many times I've to tell you that the content is not an opinion piece by somebody else. It is something told by the subject of the article himself. He clearly says that "My grandmother was a Gujarati. So lunch and dinner at home comprise vatanu shaak, rotli, daal and kadhi. I never miss the dandia-raas back in Mumbai". Vatanu shaak, Rotli are Gujarati dishes and Dandiya is a Gujarati folk dance. The food part can be reworded. And assumptions about you were based on the very first post you made to my talk. "Why does editor seem insistent of making him appear Gujarati despite him being only Gujarati from his grandmother's side?" makes it clear. When the article only mentioned what he does routinely. How is that relevant to his personal life? And whatever Times of India publishes is the universal truth or absolute word of God? Where is the proof that Neil himself has said it? There is no credence to that except for the article written by Tanvi Trivedi, which states that Neil said it.

This is how Wikipedia content is sourced when it comes to self-identification. What is the proof that Neil Nitin Mukesh is going to act in Saaho you might ask since no link in that article has Neil giving an interview about that. I already told you to open a discussion at article talk page which you didn't and wasting my time. I told you about my own views on that. Yeah, I looked at the talk page and will discuss further on there if necessary. Just to make one thing clear. I can very well dismiss a lot of content in Neil Nitin Mukesh's article claiming original research or unsourced. Understand that Indian Media reporting is not that matured. The point of contention is whether his food habits or liking of Dandiya is important for the article. If people decides, there isn't any harm then it stays. Kolkata

U r a sincere editor may be. So I m politely telling u ... there were a number of wrong info in west bengal/kolkata topic. There were infos about north & central kolkata only. No infos were about south & east kolkata...the most developed parts of kolkata. I tried to rectify some old/backdated info with citations. May be I gave too much info. At least u could read them thoroughly ... then delete the unnecessary parts. But u make me realize ... who r actually running the precious app wikipedia ... someone updates info with hard efforts & other deletes that completely in a second without reading ... did not xpect such impractical, biased behaviour of a senior admin ... thanx Soumo Dutt 14:38, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

That article was about East India so there's no logic putting too much info 4000+ bytes on Kolkata only. If you want to add info on West and East Kolkata, do not add sub-headers. Do it in 1-2 lines. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:49, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

@Mamta Jagdish Dhody: Madam, this revert was strictly based on the guidelines described in WP:NOINDICSCRIPT. I hope you checked it. On a different/personal note, I do not think "Script identifies culture and Identity". For example both Polish and Spanish languages use the same Roman script but both these groups are culturo-linguistically quite different, Slavic vs Romance languages. Similarly a Rajasthani, Marathi, Santhali, Bodo, Nepali languages uses/have used Devanagri script but are associated with different ethno-linguistic groups. Marjaavaan movie cast information

Sidharth Malhotra is the lead hero of the movie & Ritesh is antagonist, so I don't understand why you are putting Ritesh name first in the cast, it was Sidharth who shared the first look of the movie & also shoot with multiple goons with fire on his back & shoulder but you have edited everywhere & replaced Sidharth name with Ritesh, why so, do you have a personal grudge with Sidharth, I noticed whenever anyone try to correct that you will immediately change it, why so, do you have any hatred or vendetta with Sidharth, he is the lead actor of the movie & his name should come first & change all those wrong edits in that page, I don't know why you are doing this, please change and put the correct information bcz u have put wrong information and has locked the page, plzz change it. Do not add references without context. That would be considered spam as per WP:ELNO and WP:REFSPAM. You should add some relevant text from the source and then use these within <ref> tags. @Rvls: What are you talking about? You didn't add or expanded any citations. All you did here was to remove "cleanup templates" and "short description". Secondly, the other edits by you were not improvements either for example, his wife's article name is "Amala Akkineni" not "Amala(actress)" which you have back linked; you've added his mother's name in Infobox who's a non-notable person; and you have included Bollywood in the lead, but he is primarily a Telugu actor. Awadhiya Caste and its Racial claims

A claim made by the awadhiya caste regarding its race was added with appropriate source from a book. you deleted it by saying that we do not add race to a caste/tribe as per norms. but when the book and the wikipedia entry which i made both specifically mentions that its just a claim made by the caste then i think its absolutely appropriate to let the entry be made on the page. its absolutely neutral. so can i make the changes?

also regarding the caste of people. i believe if reputed newspapers have mentioned the caste of a person then the caste should be mentioned on the wikipedia page. caste is not equal to race. caste has a culture, value, traditions etc. it should be treated differently than race. so can i put the caste of people in some articles. --NikhilPatelReal (talk) 00:48, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

No we do not mention 19th-early 20th century races in caste/tribe articles as per consensus. No mention of races in any other notable world population in Wikipedia either. Claims are speculations and we do not add speculations. Genetics have ripped apart these old school scientific racialism. We do not add genetics even.
There is nothing wrong mentioning about castes in a caste article however mentioning caste in a BLP is dependent on self-identification as par consensus at WP:IN. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:19, 19 July 2019 (UTC)

recent edits

Hi Fylindfotberserk, I do not understand the edits on Saraswat Brahmin page at all. Do you agree with them? Based on common knowledge, almost all edits by Sharma seem all like WP:OR or WP:SYNTH. Secondly, I own two of the books - the Chitpawans(Gokhale) and Marathas(Gordon) and neither of the books supports the text. The quote from Gokhale(about Gramanya) is correct but it does not support anything else written on the page. He took that quote from the Chitpawan wiki page. Undesired edits following name changes of cities in India

Hi, Fylindfotberserk, regarding unwanted edits to some India-related articles counter to policy due to official name changes to districts or cities, you have been a more dedicated editor in this area than I have been; thanks for your contributions.

Had a question for you, since I think you have your finger on the pulse of this issue. Has this problem quieted down any over time, or is the pace of unwanted changes as bad as it ever was? The reason I ask, is that we had an analogous situation with pronoun usage at Leslie Feinberg, and I added an edit notice there, and it seems to have had a positive effect in diminishing the problem considerably. (That's hard to prove, as one can't be sure what prompted a change in editing pattern on the article, but it appears to be the case.)

I realize that notices were discussed at WP:INB before (now at Archive 66), but not sure if any attempt was made to implement them. I'm familiar with creating a notice, and if the problem persists, and you would like to try it, we could collaborate on creating one, if that would help. Let me know. @Mathglot: Thanks for appreciating my work sir. I'd say the problem has subsided a little and an edit notice would be helpful. Most of the IPs and new users do not know about our WP:COMMONAME policy, I agree, but there are people (even experienced ones) that like to disregard that. See Talk:Allahabad/Archive_1#But_Official_name_is_Prayagraj, Talk:Allahabad/Archive_1#Serious_concern and Talk:Allahabad#Time_to_revisit_name?. It is quite probable that these people might be trying to rename those articles under new usernames or IPs. An indefinite autoconfirmed/confirmed access for Allahabad, Allahabad district, Allahabad division, Allahabad Airport, Faizabad, Faizabad district and Faizabad division would help much more in my opinion. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:20, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
