Ideas for vital articles (10'000)[edit]

Hello fellow vital project member, I had many ideas for additions to the vital 10'000 whilst away and busy. But thought I would ask others opinions of the almost 100 articles that came into my mind before flooding the project talk page with them. If you have time let me know which articles you like and which you dislike, I am still looking for removals as well by the way. (I listed my ideas on my own talk page, here). requesting a favour for article sugaspott[edit]

hey how are you i was hoping i could reach out to you about the creating of or restoring the article sugaspott which was deleted some years ago

i intend to work on it and gather a general consensus of approval before publishing it

since the time it was deleted, sources that where not available to show notability have slowly emerged over the internet and i suppose i figured maybe i can request the making of the article which i have already done and now also looking for editors who may feel like they could help. Since the original articles' deletion, i came to terms with the fact that in the greater interests of the bigger picture the right thing was done, i somehow now need help to do the same thing the right way

see i thought there was nothing to lose. I have so far created a request for an article to be made and i was hoping you could assist me in making this article, editing this article, preserving and protecting this article. i appreciate that you may not have the necessary time to execute such a request but i figure it may not take you very long. i cannot make it myself as it is about me and as you will see from the following link i have already tried -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Sugaspott - and failed. when i failed for the last time prior to now, i decided that it was not necessary and that my time was better off invested in other avenues. and then in the course of time the BBC put this on their website -http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/artists/f7fcc586-7bd3-4872-9927-620da58b6421- after i received some airplay from Tom Robinson. that page stipulates that a biography can only come from Wikipedia. Now i have this monster of bureaucracy to tackle and because they oft end up with heated exchanges and ill mannered thoughts i beg for some resolve and assistance.

I appreciate that i may not be as important as barrack obama but believe me sir i have contributed much less on a par to our society as have the following individuals, for illustration purposes only, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cokni_O%27Dire ,https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maskiri, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overlord_X,

thanks

any help would be appreciated and i will be grateful for

Pre-1500 Indian rulers on the VA/Expanded list[edit]

Hi Gizza! Thank you for your input in WP:VA/E – your thoughtful and eloquent contributions have been much appreciated. I need your help with something. What I'm about to say might not be news to you, but before the 1500s we have just two rulers of India on the list: Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka. In other words, we have nobody to represent India's political history in the 1700 years following the Ashoka's death in 232 BCE. This seems unacceptable to me, and I'd like to replace some of the less notable Western figures on the list (that's easy, there are many to choose from) with Indian ones. But my knowledge of Indian history remains extremely poor despite my attempts to read up on it.

As a start, I have made a list of eight rulers who I think might be suitable additions, and I wanted to see what you think of them before I put them up for general discussion. I wanted to add figures that were clearly vital, but I also tried to represent a range of geographic regions, ethnic and religious backgrounds, and time periods. That second consideration forced me to leave out some people I otherwise wouldn't want to, but I thought it would be impractical to start with more than eight people since I don't want to overwhelm the forum with these proposals. I'd welcome any feedback you have. I've also invited User:Redtigerxyz to join the conversation – I hope you don't mind. Thanks!

Short explanation[edit]

Hey Gizza! I've been using the dates posted at the top of the page to determine when 30 days ago is. Because August has 31 days, 30 days from Melody Lavender's post would be on 14 September, not 15 September. Nevertheless, I realize that it would be overly bureaucratic to not allow votes added shortly after 30 days—I just wanted to explain that I'm not closing things ahead of schedule! Hi Girik,

I saw you created the Hinduism barnstar, but I can't find any more information about it and I'm really curious. Where did the idea for the barnstar come from, and are they widely distributed? (Basically - what makes the cut to earn a Hinduism barnstar?)

Also, are you a 'Wikimedia seward'?

Pageview Tool[edit]

Hey Girik! A couple days ago at the help desk, I mentioned how I might try taking a stab at making that multi-page view counter. My plan is to let users input 3-5 articles, and then display the data in a graph - either bar or line, or perhaps both. I'm also considering having the data available in table form. Is there anything else you think would be useful? Any input would be great. First time taking a jab with JavaScript, so I'll see how this goes. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:00, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you're going to add anything to an article in the future, please provide a reliable source to accompany it. Adding something without a reliable source cheapens the article and casts doubt over its authenticity. Also, please check to make sure the information is not already there. There's a whole section dedicated to ISIL moving into Palmyra so you were simply repeating yourself for no reason at all. Adding unsourced material can lead to it being deleted, such as the case here. CassiantoTalk 06:54, 24 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Ganesh drawing.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Ganesh drawing.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 12:51, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Signpost exit poll[edit]

Dear Wikipedian, you recently voted in the ArbCom election. Your username, along with around 155 other usernames of your fellow Wikipedians, was randomly selected from the 2000+ Wikipedians who voted this year, with the help of one of the election-commissioners. If you are willing, could you please participate (at your option either on-wiki via userspace or off-wiki via email) in an exit poll, and answer some questions about how you decided amongst the ArbCom candidates?

If you decide to participate in this exit poll, the statistical results will be published in the Signpost, an online newspaper with over 1000 Wikipedians among the readership. There are about twelve questions, which have alphanumerical answers; it should take you a few minutes to complete the exit poll questionnaire, and will help improve Wikipedia by giving future candidates information about what you think is important. This is only an unofficial survey, and will have no impact on your actual vote during this election, nor in any future election.

All questions are individually optional, and this entire exit poll itself is also entirely optional, though if you choose not to participate, I would appreciate a brief reply indicating why you decided not to take part (see Question Zero). Thanks for being a Wikipedian

The questionnaire[edit]

Dear Wikipedian, please fill out these questions -- at your option via usertalk or via email, see Detailed Instructions at the end of the twelve questions -- by putting the appropriate answer in the blanks provided. If you decide not to answer a question (all questions are optional), please put the reason down: "undecided" / "private information" / "prefer not to answer" / "question is not well-posed" / "other: please specify". Although the Signpost cannot guarantee that complex answers can be processed for publication, it will help us improve future exit polls, if you give us comments about why you could not answer specific questions.

Extended confirmed protection[edit]

Hello, DaGizza. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins[edit]

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers[edit]

Hi DaGizza/Archive.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Happy birthday![edit]

Warm regards, Mz7 (talk) 01:58, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You closed the proposal to add history of Ireland, however you did it too early since Carlwev supported this proposal not long after you had closed it. Though technically this is not against the rules, you'd better not close it too quickly.--RekishiEJ (talk) 06:22, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Remove Obama/Bush from top 10k list?[edit]

I don't want to unnecessarily open a second hornet's nest; has there been a recent proposal to remove Barack Obama and George W. Bush from the list? As a joint proposal, it should be possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Power~enwiki (talkcontribs) 22:25, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You're listed as "Cap" number 1 in this WikiProject. It seems that the Project's talk page is sadly neglected these days. I know little about rugby but have seen how important an active WikiProject is to getting quality information on Wikipedia by helping each other. If you don't mind the nudge (and you may be very active, I've not checked) please pop by the WikiProject talk page from time to time to reply to comments - or start your own. Cheers. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 22:31, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Flags in European current templates[edit]

Hello there, I have been asked by another member of WPRL to widen the conversation on "Flags in European current templates", in the hope to gain a wider consensus. I imagine that this message may well never be read, dismissed, see me lose support, potentially gain some or take the discussion forwards. Please do take the time to read the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Rugby_league#Flags_in_squad_templates if you can, but the crux of my position is that the flags are prevalent elsewhere, are consistent with usage by the MOS, and their implementation for their rugby league national squad/team or representative nationality, is in line with their intended purpose. The crux of the remove side would be an IP editor may interpret a flag as indication of birth, give too much credence to the nation, and the decision was made previously. To remove them from all rugby league templates when there is a limited conversation would seem more than a little unfair I would say, hence the attempt to reach out. I'm quite happy to voted down, but would appreciate a few more voices to the discussion, else it would seem quite wrong to move from the majority into the minority.Fleets (talk) 19:54, 13 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
