The **NEW** milk and meat (copied from my talk page)

Great split! There is so much to write, but subsumed under Kosher food, there was so much to add all over that this never got the attention it deserved. If you'd like, I can provide rich information and sourcing on Wednesday morning, EST -- don't want to step on your toes while you work. I already touched up the intro. Kol tuv. DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 06:00, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I am trying to reorganize all the Wikipedia information pertaining to kashrut. I have found it quite disorganized. For a long time, it has been contained in just two articles, Kashrut and Kosher foods. These haven't appeared to be well-planned subdivided articles, but rather have a lot of redundancy. Kashrut is a much more complex concept that would work a lot better with a single parent article titled "Kashrut," and a series of subarticles in a category with the same name. Milk and meat is an example of one of them. I agree there is a lot more to include, and I hope that anyone with useful information will make these contributions. Xyz7890 (talk) 18:43, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
If you'd like, I'll take this over so you can move on. DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 20:22, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Given the openness of Wikipedia, anyone is welcome to make these contributions at any time. No one needs "permission" to make changes, provided good judgment is used. So if you want to go and make these changes, feel perfectly free. Xyz7890 (talk) 20:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Milk and meat in Jewish law‎ as a featured article

I think the page Milk and meat in Jewish law‎ that you have been the main contributor to has the potential to be a featured article one day soon. Do you think it is complete? Xyz7890 (talk) 17:38, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Bananagrams

I have nominated Bananagrams, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bananagrams. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rob Banzai (talk) 21:28, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Bananagrams AFD

Moving this from the AFD because there's no real reason to do it in public...I'm not trying to pick any fights either. I was just saying that some of your comments come off as...well, whining. Saying it's only a stub, that it gets umpteen million google hits, all that stuff...none of it helps at AFD, and it -can- hurt. What helps is what else you did...gathering and inserting sources. That's all I'm saying...and yeah, I probably could have said it nicer. Swing away. --UsaSatsui (talk) 20:39, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your message

Dear Mr Rosenbach - thank you for your message that you placed on my homepage - about my having something on my homepage. I am rather new to Wikipedia; so am totally unaware of what I can place on here. It was very good of you to contact me, but I would be grateful for your suggestions. Is all of my edits marked in red because I am a new contributor to Wikipedia? I feel there is so much to learn about this system. Thank you again for taking the time to contact me - it is appreciated. :) VincenzoMc (talk) 21:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

(copied from my talk page) Why do people put articles up for deletion for lack of verifiable content 8 minutes after they are created? Do they expect 103 footnotes at inception? :) Have a wonderful shabbos! DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 18:12, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

I agree with you sooooo much. An article should not be proposed for deletion on the day it is created just because it is yet to have references. The construction of an article is time-consuming. Rome was not built in one day. Neither is Wikipedia. It appears to be an overzealous reaction from some. People should wait at least a few days to see if it'll improve.

The same has happened to me. I have written some articles on Beanie Babies. Beanie Babies are surely notable - they were one of the biggest fads of the 90s, so much that fights broke out over particular ones. Hundreds of books have been written and published about the Beanie Babies, and what made specific ones unique. That alone makes them notable. But some people don't get it - some of these articles have been put up for AFD the day I started to construct them, even with the {{construction}} tag which is supposed to prevent that.

I have created articles on two board games: Aggravation and Headache. I could not find any references to post in the article itself, but these are sold at every toy store, and were around when my kids were young. Both are variations on other classic board games. And so far, no one has complained about these articles.

One exception by the way, I did propose an article a few days ago for deletion - Separation of males and females in Jewish law, which was created I think a day earlier. It is the first time I have ever requested something be deleted. But this is a different story. It appears that someone is trying to give a distorted inaccurate view of what one wishes Judaism could be. I felt it would do more harm than good, and it should be removed. Thanks again for your message

Hi Dale, thank you for the new message you left on my page. You have certainly made me feel very welcome. Please feel free to put something on my homepage if you wish. I will have a look at what I can add on. Having a look at your contributions - you really have been very busy; there are some very interesting and in-depth topics listed there. Have a good day too - Dale... VincenzoMc (talk) 16:38, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello again Dale - thank you for my edit count. It is interesting to see that I have made 156 edits since I started in April. I have included a brief introduction about myself that I can work on later. I am convinced that it will take a lifetime to fully understand the complexity of Wikipedia. It is a marvellous system - whoever created it has taken a great deal of time and effort to get it right. I wonder how long you have been involved in editing - you seem very advanced...

Thank you for your kindness in writing to me again - it is nice that people like yourselves take the time out to welcome us 'new boys'. V VincenzoMc (talk) 17:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your message

Hi, D. Rosenbach! Thanks for the advice. I'm still learning wikipedia - and it's truly limitless! Kol Hakavod on your valuable contributions. All the best, --Chumashteacher (talk) 07:59, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dale - thanks for giving me all that information. I have just logged on, so I will find some time and sift through all of the information you have given me; you really know your stuff. It's a pity that everyone in the world isn't as helpful. I had a quick look at how you indent your paragraphs (as you mentioned) so I hope this works. I read your page and knew that you were a dentist - that's a good job to have. I am a teacher of humanities, but I spend most of my time in the office - doing marketing work. I really like the Union Jack that you put on my page. That was good of you; the links too. I will get back to you, once I have absorbed all of the information. Cheers again Dale. My name is Vinnie, by the way - I should have said that at the beginning. Bye for now. VincenzoMc (talk) 18:20, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Reliable sources

Please read the Wikipedia reliable sources policy before making any more edits to that vanity model/actor page you've been active on recently. Press releases absolutely DO NOT meet our standards for reliability. Adding them back in after they have been removed is a clear violation of our policies. It's not like this wasn't already explained to you, so you have no excuse for continuing to make such bad edits. DreamGuy (talk) 15:19, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey man, no problem

Heh, thanks for that. But yeah, I've looked at your contributions and you've done some good stuff, and just let me know if you ever need help with anything. Rwiggum (Talk/Contrib) 18:07, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi

What's the difference between the shorthands of 'reflist' and 'references'? Thanx. DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 15:54, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

The {{reflist}} template formats the references a specific way and also helps them fit better on the page. You can also add multiple columns by adding a "|2" at inside the template. coccyx bloccyx(toccyx) 15:29, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the Help

Hi Dale, thanks for the information on the User Boxes - I have added a Catholic one on from the list you sent me. I bet you are impressed with my new found skills. I think I have still got a long way to go. Apologies about putting my last comment under the wrong section - the title of that one was very similar to the one that I had written you, but at least I am getting the hang of doing the indenting. I looked on Dream Guys discussion page, but couldn't see the comment you left him (perhaps I am looking in the wrong place). Out of curiousity I noticed that you had a WikiDragon user box - that's quite intriguing. Sorry to hear that you are a 'dying breed'. I hope all is well with you. Bye again and thanks once more. VincenzoMc (talk) 18:41, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Good to hear from you. You are quite right I am a big fan of the older British movies, especially ones with the bygone stars in them. I am hoping to see some of your contributions. How can I view what you have been involved in? Have a good weekend Dale. VincenzoMc (talk) 21:06, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Help

{{helpme}} Hi -- this is sort of complex. I created a user box (currently on my user page) to link to the current day's AfD log, and I took the link for this from the Wikipedia AfD page itself, where there is an automatically changing link. However, my the link, when pasted into my userbox, does not automatically change with the day and maintains a link to the AfD log of the day I copied the link. Please let me know what the problem as well as fixing the problem, if you are able. Thanx! DRosenbach (Talk | Contribs) 17:11, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

As you are likely aware, the article that you asked me about on my talkpage was deleted at AFD. I have provided you with a userfied copy, linked above, so that you can continue to "attempt a rescue" if you wish. As I thought would happen, based on the massive amount of "delete" comments (some horrible, some ok, some simply misunderstanding the topic I think), it was rightfully deleted, and a deletion review would return the same verdict I believe. The userfied version needs more cleanup, I noticed that you'd begun that process. If you prefer to just "move on" and not continue to work on this subject matter, that's completely acceptable of course, just let me know and I'll re-delete it. Have a great day, Keeper ǀ 76 16:17, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

A barnstar! Well, my day is complete, thank you for your encouraging words. I'll go ahead and delete the userfied copy now. Let me know if you ever change your mind! Thanks for your work, Keeper ǀ 76 16:27, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Red Username

Ha! Thanks but no thanks. I'm fully aware that wikipedians are wary of those with red usernames. I do not have a user page in an attempt to teach others that a redname user is not necessarily a bad user. Some people tend not to be friendly with new users. I believe the quality of my work should speak itself. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their username but by the content of their contributions. Who think that they "deserve" a Wikipedia article about themselves and laughed aloud. Yes, I too have succumbed to looking quite desperate to have my own page.... but the difference is that an article was previously deleted based on my name which I did not write and never actually saw the content of either. It was only a matter of time before someone tried to post more non-factual info about me here so I decided it would just be better to bite the bullet and not leave anymore speculation amongst international pageant fanatics.

As for friends, I am short on internet buddies and my dad would be thrilled that I was "conversatin'" with a Jewish person:-) That's how he raised me!

Amyholbrook (talk)amy lynne

Well I took down some factual info off of the article because I could not prove it with secondary sources. My only question to you is this: How is it that I know for a fact that my notable friends have created their own bio and it doesn't get deleted but I cannot? This just doesn't seem right to me.

Light and darkness

Hi DRosenbach, a couple of things:

  • Your box thingy I like, but to sway the neutral or antipathetic you may need more to convince them to use it (eg private people or those opposed to social networking). Maybe, adding something about skills useful for wikipedia, e.g. understanding latin, Yiddish, Swahili, or something about being familiar with cars/legal/mathematics etc. i.e. we always need experts in something or other.
  • I repeat I am sorry about your article, and sometimes in these situations people go on AfD sprees (if my article ain't good enough then...) - AfD is very wearing if you spent too much time there, and a great place to antagonise people and get into arguments if you are not careful.
  • I find the collaborative editing involved in building up GAs and FAs the most rewarding part of being around here - your Milk and meat in Jewish law looks not too bad...and if you want to get the religious restrictions on the Pork page (which I was planning one day to work up to GA/FA) I would be grateful.
  • I am ok on medical articles, but as I am a psychiatrist some of my medical knowledge from the neck down is a bit rusty. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 05:11, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
  • Yes it is like left field. I never feel good voting to delete people's material that they worked hard on. I was one of the medicos who dropped in. I have been around a while and written a fair bit on WP. I have seen people get stuck into nominating other articles for deletion after an event like this, and seen plenty of times some fairly terse exchanges there, so, yes, I was dropping in for some friendly advice, take it how you will. Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 13:11, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Mind if I transclude this on someone's userpage? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 05:13, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Your transcluded message appears to be causing distortions to subsequent sections on the user talk pages. Please consider adding <div style="clear: both"></div> to the bottom of your message to resolve this problem. Regards. Road Wizard (talk) 22:37, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
You are attracting a large number of accidental edits to your message page through people clicking "edit" on your transcluded section header. I would suggest using {{subst:User:DRosenbach/Newuserpage}} to leave a fixed copy of the message on the target page and avoid the accidental edit problem. Road Wizard (talk) 18:32, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Your fake warning

I find the fake warning that you are posting to user talk pages very misleading. I know of nothing that requires users to include anything on their user page. In fact a number of long established users have blanked their user pages while continuing to be active editors. Please stop posting that 'warning'. -- Donald Albury 14:36, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

I have asked for a third opinion on this. -- Donald Albury 18:16, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Third opinion

I'm here from 3O; After reading the text, I wouldn't really call it a warning, since it's not threatening. While not bad advice, I do think it's a bit misguided, as experienced editors do sometimes leave their user page blank. (People will often modify their signature so that it doesn't link to it.) Aside from that, I'd be a bit nervous about posting this on talk pages, simply because you might confuse a new user into thinking it's a requirement. Not a huge problem, though. My Name

Howdy--

Thanks. I will try a different name later. At this time, I am doing research for the Kingman area, because I'm creating a guided walking tour for the Historic Downtown Kingman. So I rather keep the name as is. I could have used robroswell, but it is to obvious. Thanks, RobChilcoatr (talk) 00:28, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

DRosenbach, the above comment is an example of a new user that has been completely confused by your new user page message. You may wish to seek comment from the Wikipedia:Welcoming committee about a revised wording to the message. If editors go away with the impression that they need to change their name then something is clearly wrong. Road Wizard (talk) 00:47, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps removing the "USEYOURNAME" line would be wise? The user above seems to have read that line as a requirement that they should use their real name instead of a made up one. If you want to have a big word there, why not "USERPAGE"? Road Wizard (talk) 00:54, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

I've actually decided that it's not worth pressing the issue about Uncle Moishy. The character was invented in Toronto in 1979 by a trio called Shema Kolenu (led by Zale Newman), but group member Milton Tanenbaum later adopted the personality and moved to New York. I wasn't familiar with "Moishy"'s later history when I said that he was Canadian.

I believe that Newman provided the voice of Moishy on the early recordings, btw. CJCurrie (talk) 03:58, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Ah, sorry ... I misunderstood you. I'm not certain if Tanenbaum was born in the US or Canada (or elsewhere); I just know that he lived in Canada when the character was created. (I didn't say he was "Canadian-born", just "Canadian"). CJCurrie (talk) 04:10, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Subaru, The Car of Tasmania

Good to meet you on the deletion discussion of David Leaman. The same phenomena of % of Subaru sold in NYC applies in Tasmania, though I cannot imagine marketers ever using that fact in order to sell them in the rest of Australia. I am confused by your change in the assessment rating to these categories. You gave me a barnstar, and then reverted my edits... I had removed them from Category:Top-importance Judaism articles because although they are highly valued concepts in Judaism, they do not represent large topics in their own right. The way I understand it, a "top-importance" article deals with a large branch within the topic at hand, and therefore deserves attention to be made into a high-quality article.
