Scott Delaney

Hi! Your student, Scott Delaney, has been dropped from the academy after a report at AN. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:38, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey, just curious...

Hi, I noticed that you decided to close the AfD on the Programmes of the BBC. While I supported keeping this article, I'm curious how you, as a non-admin can decide whether to keep or delete an article. It was my understanding (perhaps incorrectly) that the purpose of the AfD pages were to have the debate and then Admins would take the action, If that's incorrect, please advise how you close the debate and on what basis you have the authority to do that. I am NOT questioning the action, nor suggesting that you don't have that right (remember, I supported the outcome), just trying to learn. Thanks! Vertium (talk to me) 17:28, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Hey, its good that your curious! Whilst non-admin closures are not really encouraged, editors in good standing (I'm not suggesting I'm tip top!) can close the debate after 7 days, if there it is a clear result and if the agreement doesn't involve admin tools (eg, keep, merge, redirect are non-ad, whilst delete is). Because I could see that the vast majority of edits had voted Keep (excuse the bold) and gave valid reasons and policies to back it up, it meant that the debate can be closed, although if clearer consensus needs to be made, it can be relisted for further !votes. I can't decide whether an article can be deleted, because I don't have that tool. Has this helped? --Chip123456 (talk) 17:49, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
Helps much. Thanks. What's the procedure to do that? Is there a template to provide the notice and close the debate? I've been around WP for a long time, but have only edited sporadically until recently. I'm back "in the game" and want to contribute where I can. Vertium (talk to me) 20:58, 10 June 2012 (UTC)
See, WP:NAC it tells you when where to close a debate, and then see the 'see also' section, which has got useful links! --Chip123456 (talk) 06:57, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Also, WP:AFD/AI. Although these are admin instructions, you may find them useful. Always place (Non-admin closure) at the end, and inky close it in the given circumstances. --Chip123456 (talk) 15:11, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

See also

Hi, re this edit: neither of these links are really necessary, per WP:SEEALSO. National Rail is already linked twice - once in the infobox and once in the routebox; and although the only link to Network Rail is in ref. 3, it would have been better to put that link into the existing phrase "The Network Rail Business Plan for 2007". --Redrose64 (talk) 17:44, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I didn't realise National Rail was already linked and to the latter, thanks for the advice! --Chip123456 (talk) 17:47, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

CVUA

Hi! Thanks for your comments on my talk page. Do you want to take the student who already has rollback? Thanks, Electriccatfish2 (talk) 22:19, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I'm a bit hesitant because I'm new to the instructing thing and have only used RB for about a month. Would it be better to have someone more experienced? If not, yes, I will. --Chip123456 (talk) 06:50, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
You'll do fine. I sort of feel bad that after I invited you, your first student was dropped, and I would like to know if you'll please take him. You're a great editor and I'm sure you'll do fine! Regards! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:09, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I think that was an issue beyond the CVUA. Below, I'm having a conversation with Morning, hopefully they'll sign up and we could assign them to him. Thoughts? I trust Morning, very good editor. --Chip123456 (talk) 20:12, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Me too, I have bumped into him quite a few times at Recent Changes. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 20:46, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
So shall we wait for Mornings response? The editor who applied hasn't replied to my messages yet (I asked them why they wanted to enrol because they were already a Rollbacker) so we aren't in any rush.......at the moment! --Chip123456 (talk) 20:50, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Another rollbacker, Fishingking applied to the academy. He has a very low edit count (around 300). He's yours if you want him. Electriccatfish2 (talk) 11:53, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I think after my student has graduated, I will take two on, but at the moment I think one is my max. I've had an interaction with FishingKing before he was given RB rights after 6, yes 6 days on Wikipedia. He also thought he could block a user and maybe a bit rusty on reporting. --Chip123456 (talk) 15:21, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, I saw that interaction and that's actually what caused me to get involved with counter-vandalism. When I first saw WP: RFR, I was intimidated to get involved with anti-vandalism work because most of the rollback requests on that page had been denied, but when I saw someone with such a low edit count who had rollback, I decided to get involved. I would take him on because of my personal connection, but he uses Huggle and I don't. I feel bad that after I invited you to be an instructor, your first student was the first one who we had to drop. Regards! Electriccatfish2 (talk) 19:05, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Also, I only use rollback and twinkle and Fish wants to learn the other tools that rollback allows you to use. --Chip123456 (talk) 18:44, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Invitation

Thank you for the invite to be an instructor. I am unsure of what would be needed to do this but I am more than interested and appreciate your confidence. I know that we spoke a while ago about some updates to the main page of CVU and I am ready to help any way that I can. Can you please provide some additional information on my talk page or just send me an email? Thanks. --Morning277 (talk) 16:04, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Yes, we have spoken in the past, which gave me confidence that you'd be a great instructor! The CVUA is an academy which trains budding vandalism fighters in how to identify, revert, warn and report (known as the 4 steps of Counter-Vandalism). You monitor their contributions, discuss any issues and build a trust between yourself and your student. Usually, when you believe they are experienced, you encourage them to apply for RB rights. If they receive them, they are a graduate of the academy. That is a quick over view, but if you would like me to explain certain things, just ask. It would b great to have you on board and yo could be our 12th instructor! --Chip123456 (talk) 16:11, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
Sorry for the late reply. I just received your prod and have to say that this is something that I had never though of. My ultimate goal is to become an Administrator and believe that in order to do this that I should get experience in every area of Wikipedia. As such, I would be more than happy to join. Please let me know where I need to sign up at and provide me any additional information that I will need. Thanks for the invitation and hopefully I will be able to provide a valuable contribution to the Unit. --Morning277 (talk) 21:36, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Add yourself to Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy/Status and we will get you a student when one becomes available. --Chip123456 (talk) 21:39, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
