    Geoff Dyer

    Background and education[edit]

Geoff Dyer did his schooling at Cheltenham and went on to Corpus Christi College, Oxford, where he obtained a Bachelor's in English literature. However, in his essay On the Roof he states that while living on the dole in Brixton in the early 80's, his 'quality of study was much higher' than at Oxford. [1]

    Personal life[edit]

Dyer currently resides in London. He grew up in Cheltenham, where his father worked as a sheet-metal worker and his mother worked as a 'dinner lady' in his school, serving lunches to school children. In his writings Dyer often describes himself as a 'scholarship boy.' He obtained a scholarship to study English at Oxford. He is married to Rebecca Wilson, head of development at the Saatchi Gallery.
