Connection With Beach Boys "Party" Album?[edit]

The legend I've seen is that Dean hated this song so much that he refused to sing on it, leaving Jan to do all the vocals. While that was happening, he walked down the hall and dropped in on the Beach Boys (with whom he was friends) doing a session for their live-in-the-studio "Party" album in another room in the studio. While they were trying to think what song to do next, he suggested "Barbara Ann" (which Jan & Dean had recently done a cover version of), and sang with the Beach Boys on what became one of their big hits (though contractually he couldn't be listed).
