That'd border on SYNTH but yeah. Strangely enough, looking at the scans on hymnary many of them seem to have this "modern" variant too; though of course it's inconsistent and bothversions can be found in near contemporaneous hymnals. My German isn't great, so I'll leave to the experts (namely you and Gerda), but it doesn't look like the difference in meaning is very significant. Reverted pending clarification. I took the text to be from the EG, and the change would be confusing, implying other editions of the EG are different. The difference here is really not significant enough to mention or explain: "help those who believe" vs. "help him who believes". (Note that den' = denen.)
