What is it about?[edit]

I always wish there were more interpretations on wikipedia song pages. I guess that since original research is forbidden it would require that a published critic had published an interpretation. And perhaps no critic has ventured an interpretation. If only on the talk page, I would be interested to hear of views on what it is that "means nothing" to the singer. Does Vienna the town mean nothing to the singer? Or does singers feelings to "you" (as in the pre-chorus "only you and I") mean nothing to the singer?--Timtak 17:34, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you should take the singer literally when he says 'this means nothing'81.154.247.129 21:55, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. You may well be right. --Timtak (talk) 13:17, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Someone on Youtube says it is about a holiday romance, that meant nothing afterwards. I have asked for their source.--Timtak (talk) 09:40, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

werent it about romance that's nice but has no message —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.209.195.249 (talk) 19:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

the greatest single never to reach number one[edit]

give me a break. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane? I Can See For Miles? etc etc The link provided as reference didn't say that anyone thought that, let alone 'many'.81.154.247.129 21:54, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

plus its a bit shite if we're being honest with ourselves. --86.156.122.5 (talk) 00:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
agreement aside, WP:NPOV and WP:OR would tend to frown on that kind of editorializing generally. -LlywelynII (talk) 17:33, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"Ultravox's 1981 hit Vienna has been voted the nation's favourite number two single" Ref BBC. Nation = UK. So in the UK that's the reference that Vienna is the "greatest single never to reach number one" Linnah (talk) 13:14, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Title[edit]

Could this article be renamed Vienna (Ultravox song) to distinguish it from the Billy Joel song and probably others.81.154.247.129 21:57, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i agree. i'll get that done. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wesley M. Curtus (talkcontribs) 01:59, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NOTFORUM[edit]

Restored material removed by anon vandal who blanked discussion in violation of WP:GOODFAITH. Every point above except anon86.156's is on the subject of improving the article; there is no reason whatsoever to remove them and every reason to include some exegesis on the lyrics. -LlywelynII (talk) 17:33, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

or / oh vienna[edit]

I can't find any citation for the suggestion that the lyric is "or vienna" rather than "oh vienna", can this be clarified or removed as I don't think it's true — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.30.108.35 (talk) 14:12, 12 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Honorary number one[edit]

"It was awarded an honorary number one by the OCC." - What does this actually mean? They got some award? (Does the OCC still give awards for number ones, and would they award them retrospectively anyway?) -- Walnuts go kapow (talk) 13:54, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Needs something in here also about Take That's use of a sample in their Progress album in the final track also — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.24.41.135 (talk) 23:29, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Genre[edit]
