As user:Sslaptnhablhat refuses to accept, there is more evidence for it being a llama that was brought to the studio than Bubbles. For a start, the FM/MJ version was recorded in 1983, and MJ didn't get Bubbles until 1985.
If you Google for the two artists' names together, the articles that mention a reason for the difficulty in recording all say llama instead of chimpanzee.
