Why Carlton?[edit]

Who is that? 2A00:23C5:E097:5D00:F5E3:15EF:A83B:B323 (talk) 19:37, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hotel César Ritz managed in London. He also had the Ritz, London, but prob wanted to give his other property some exposure. 2A00:23C3:E284:900:B806:330D:8491:3C44 (talk) 15:28, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merger Proposal[edit]

Here's my justification for proposing a merger: although those two pages started off the same pages (by the same person), there seems to be limited value to having both. It seems that the Ritz-Carlton page has been a honeypot for corporate advertisement, and once all the advertisement is removed, there is very few content that can't be found in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company page. A quick search on Nike, Cartier,... shows me that there isn't usually one page for a brand, seperated from the page for the company, when both use the same name. Finally, having two pages is misleading: one commenter (Talk:Ritz-Carlton#Use of the Ritz name) thought that the Ritz-Carlton was the only page about the subject. I was mislead too at first.--Farialima (talk) 01:42, 20 November 2007 (UTC) BTW I can do the merger if noone disagrees.--Farialima (talk) 01:47, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm think it's appropriate to have seperate articles for both. One is the holding and management company whereas one is about the specific brand. Most WP hotel-related articles have seperate articles for brands within a company. For example, Starwood Hotels and Resorts has articles for Westin Hotels, Sheraton Hotels, etc. and likewise for Marriott International and their host of brands including the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. I agree about the merger. There is absolutely no logic to how the two pages are divided. They contain mostly repetitive information, as there is no way to explain the history of the current company (founded in 1983) without giving the history of its predecessor companies in the US and abroad. In fact, the page nominally devoted to the company is actually largely about the individual Boston hotel, founded in 1927. I have copied the relevant information from this page to the page for the Boston hotel, today known as "Taj Boston". I think the logical thing to do here is to make "The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company" the sole page, migrate any useful information form the "Ritz-Carlton" page to here and then make that page just a redirect.

The only other logical thing would be to start this page with the foundation of the current company in 1983, and have the other page cover the various other Ritz Carlton companies before then, but frankly I think that would be MUCH, MUCH more confusing. (talk) 11 March 2013

I have merged the existing articles and corrected numerous incorrect facts about the early pre-1983 Ritz Carlton chain in the US. (talk) 12 March 2013

Fair use rationale for Image:Ritzcarltonlogo.png[edit]

Image:Ritzcarltonlogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

List of properties[edit]

The article might benefit from the inclusion of a list of current holdings. If this is added, the following item, removed from a trivia list, should probably be included: "The Ritz-Carlton Chicago property is not owned or managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. The Chicago property is run by Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts ."

"Putting on the Ritz"[edit]

Is the song about the hotel chain? 155.213.224.59 (talk) 15:28, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The title derives from the slang expression "to put on the Ritz", meaning to dress very fashionably. This expression was itself inspired by the opulent Ritz Hotel, prob the London one. 2A00:23C3:E284:900:B806:330D:8491:3C44 (talk) 15:30, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Update / Correction[edit]

The Ritz-Carlton hotel in the Essantai Tower, Kazakhstan is not only not the tallest hotel in Central Asia, as the article claims. It is not even the tallest hotel in Kazakhstan, according to its Wikipedia page. Essentai Tower. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.160.152.135 (talk) 15:49, 27 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman - delete it?[edit]

I have noticed that this article doesn't provide a pathway for readers to discover Ritz-Carlton_Grand_Cayman.

Should there be a link made (possibly in a list or category) or should Ritz-Carlton_Grand_Cayman be deleted in favour of WikiVoyage or something?--Commander Keane (talk) 07:48, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

San Francisco[edit]
