Schmuckers[edit]

I heard that the company used to be called "Schmuckers," (German for Jewlers), but that the name was changed because of the negative assocations of the word "schmuck."

That is not true. The family's name was at one time spelled Schmucker, but at other times it was spelled Smoker. David Smucker the grandfather of Jerome Smucker, changed the spelling to the current Smucker. Schmucker/Smoker/Smucker is a common last name among Mennonites. The name was not changed to remove any negative assosciations.

Short[edit]

Does the article strike anyone else as short? I'm asking because I'm not sure how big Smuckers is in/out of America, and wouldn't know how large the article should be. Kennard2 02:31, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Smucker's Logo.gif is being used on this article. Needs pictures[edit]

Mutha Smuckers?[edit]

Additional history section feedback[edit]

A) This project is for my History class. The object of the project is to pick something that is local history and add to it. It has to be something that is pre 1900. The revision is due by 11 P.M. on October 13th. I am asking for constructive feedback from any interested members of the Wikipedia community.

B)This is what I have so far to help the pre 1900 history of the J.M. Smucker Company. The Smucker Company was founded by Jerome Monroe Smucker.The company produces many types of jellies, jams, and other food items. Jerome was born on December 5th 1858 in Orville Ohio. Much of his life was spent as a farmer in Orville.In 1897 Jerome built a cider mill that was located in Orville. Apple cider was made at the mill and so was apple butter. [1]. Revenue: Change "$7.3 billion (2017)" to "$7.83 billion (2019)[1]"

Number of employees: Change "7,140 (2017)" to "7,000 (2019)[2]"

Logo: The logo in the infobox is out of date, as the company changed their corporate logo in September 2020. Since I am a new editor, I cannot yet upload the company's logo for fair use. I would be happy to provide an image that can be used, or wait until my account is confirmed so I can do it myself.

    • I see no indication that Smucker's is a common name for the company. While it's occasionally used to refer to the company as a whole, in most cases it refers to the line of jams/jellies/etc. The majority of media reports use the company's full name. - Eureka Lott 02:38, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hostess Purchase[edit]

This Wall Street Journal article states that Smucker's deal to purchase Hostess was $4.6 billion, but I see other credible sources like The New York Times and Associated Press say it was $5.6 billion. Perhaps the $1 billion differential was an editorial mistake by The Wall Street Journal. Does anyone see a reason why the sources differ on the amount of the acquisition? A couple of weeks have passed, and the vast majority of credible sources (beyond The New York Times and the Associated Press) state the acquisition amount was $5.6 billion in a cash and stock deal. Perhaps the difference is the $900 million in debt that J.M. Smucker will assume from Hostess. Some of everything (talk) 18:07, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
