Hi, Wikipedia reader! This is the user page of Kyle H. I work in the Corporate Communications department at The J.M. Smucker Company. I am seeking updates to the Smucker Wikipedia article, so I started this account to properly disclose my connection to the company. I will contribute to Wikipedia by proposing updates to the article in place of editing the article directly.

Request reason:

Caught by a colocation web host block but this IP is not a web host. My IP address is 173.88.156.36. I've previously requested account creation due to this issue and an editor was able to help, but now the message is appearing again that I'm editing from a colocation/web host. I'm editing from a residential address and not using a VPN so I don't know why this is occurring. KyleSmuckerCompany (talk) 12:42, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline; if you are still unable to edit, please provide the information I requested. 331dot (talk) 16:58, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

The IP address you give is not blocked. What is the exact message that appears when you attempt to edit? 331dot (talk) 13:32, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please also review conflict of interest and paid editing for formal declarations you must make. 331dot (talk) 13:33, 12 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@331dot: Apologies, this is long but wanted to provide the full message I'm seeing. Again, unclear why my web address would be blocked in such a way: "You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia. You are still able to view pages, but you are not currently able to edit, move, or create them.

Editing from 208.87.232.0/21 has been blocked (disabled) by ‪ST47‬ for the following reason(s): Server-multiple.svgThe IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be a web host provider or colocation provider. To prevent abuse, web hosts and colocation providers may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You will not be able to edit Wikipedia using a web host or colocation provider. Since the web host acts like a proxy or VPN, because it hides your IP address, it has been blocked. To prevent abuse, these IPs may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you do not have any other way to edit Wikipedia, you will need to request an IP block exemption.

If you do not believe you are using a web host, you may appeal this block by adding the following text on your talk page:

Request reason:

Caught by a colocation web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. My IP address is _______. Place any further information here. KyleSmuckerCompany (talk) 14:55, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Given that a VPN is admitted to being used, the disabling of it will be required to continue editing. Ping the relevant people if needed, and don't forget to sign when you do so it works. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 23:24, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

. You must fill in the blank with your IP address for this block to be investigated. Your IP address can be determined using whatismyip.com. Alternatively, if you wish to keep your IP address private you can use the unblock ticket request system. If you are using a Wikipedia account, you will need to request an IP block exemption by either using the unblock template or by submitting an appeal using the unblock ticket request system.

This block has been set to expire: 23:54, 26 July 2023."

Even if blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page and email other editors and administrators.

Might you be using a VPN or some kind of remote desktop software to access your company's network from home? If so, your company network's IP is what is being reported to the Wikipedia servers, and that IP range is a colocation host and is validly blocked. Can you edit if you disable that software? Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:33, 28 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivanvector: I do have VPN capability, but I receive the same message when I disconnect from VPN, just with a different IP address. My non-VPN IP address is 173.88.156.36

You may need to clear your browser's cache, cookies could cause Wikipedia to "think" a VPN is on even if it is off. 331dot (talk) 16:56, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
