teenage dream single release[edit]

does anyone know when the teenage dream CD single is going to be released in the UK.--Tony Winward (talk) 11:06, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Italian chart[edit]

I undid this edit which states the song went to #4 in Italy (not #9). Hung Medien says 9 and although I found a FIMI archive stating it is #4 that is the Artist chart (or something). Its peak in the Top Digital Download was #9, confirmed in FIMI archive. Wikipedia says the latter is the official chart so I've restored the peak Italian position to #9. Writing credits[edit]

Why is she listed as a co-writer when ASCAP suggests otherwise?

Thank you for the link to the ASCAP page. When I restored her to the list of writers, I was going by the credits at Allmusic. —C.Fred (talk) 23:14, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure she helped to write the song, like she did for every other song on the record. She is credited on the CD single (there's a scan here; it's not very high resolution, but the fifth line down, starting at the centre, it says "Written by Katy Perry, Lukasz Gottwalk, Max Martin, Benjamin Levin and [line break] Bonnie McKee.") as well as the album booklet (clear scan here). Also, she's discussed writing the song here, and multiple sources have her as a co-writer, including About.com, the BBC, Billboard, Digital Spy, NPR, etc. Not saying that the ASCAP is incorrect, but just because they don't mention her doesn't mean she didn't co-write it. Yves (talk) 22:50, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, BMI has it. I could be wrong, but I don't think ASCAP includes the performer as a writer if (s)he is one. The entry for "California Gurls" ft. Snoop Dogg is similar. Yves (talk) 23:34, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Power pop[edit]

This article describes the song as a Power pop song. Normally I let genres be when they are sourced, but defining this song as part of the genre seems to stand out against what the genre is actually about. For example, Allmusic notes the genre as "Power Pop is a cross between the crunching hard rock of the Who and the sweet melodicism of the Beatles and Beach Boys", source while the AV Club also notes it as a "guitar-driven musical style".source. The book "a history of rock" also mentions the Who-esque guitar sounds. source. The song is not guitar driven enough to follow into this genre.

The article citing power pop is from a website owned by ESPN which focuses on Sports and Pop Culture, while the sources I provided are predominately more in the field of music and music genre. As this song's sound does not match the definition on the genre on the specific page, I suggest it is removed. Andrzejbanas (talk) 05:00, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If a critic says that it's that certain genre, than we are not to question it, that would be be WP:POV. Especially since loads of reviewers commented on how it's guitar driven pop.--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 21:27, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The critic may not be a high-quality source however. as I said, he's from a website owned by ESPN, a sports based information site. I only see one source mentioning the power pop style for this song and it contradicts the page on power pop due to it's more loud guitar based music structure. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:33, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sports and pop culture, which music happens to be a part of.--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 21:37, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not primarily music as the above citations are though. Again, it's contradicting another article which is the main issue here. Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:39, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It could also be that the page has not been updated with proper information, seeing as how it just clumps 80-2000's with no expanded form as to what happened with specifics. Also, because the website is owned by ESPN, that means it not reliable? So because Doritos, a chip company, is owned by Pepsi, a soda pop company, that must mean all the health facts they supply on their bags is unreliable? The website has it's own editor, and because it's owned by ESPN means nothing other than a company saw a good opportunity to earn money and jumped on it.--(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 21:50, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Either way, if it were power pop, more sources would discuss the more hard rock driven lead. You state other sources, can you find any that match the power pop description? Andrzejbanas (talk) 22:17, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Power Pop, like many genres, can be interpreted in different ways. There are many different types of dance-pop, ranging from songs like We Found Love, to songs like Wide Awake, so naturally not all of them would fit the typical description. But when I checked the page I saw "It typically incorporates a combination of musical devices such as strong melodies, crisp vocal harmonies, economical arrangements and prominent guitar riffs. Instrumental solos are usually kept to a minimum, and blues elements are largely downplayed." Teenage Dream posses all of these. --(CA)Giacobbe (talk) 22:40, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can easily expand the article with the Who-esque hard rock guitar riffs. I have the sources and this song does not possess that. My apologies, I assumed that was mentioned in the article. Either way, it doesn't fit the genre. Andrzejbanas (talk) 23:07, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
