Tas State League[edit]

Can we please make seperate for the old and new entities. According to this page it seems that the TANFL and the new TSL are the same thing, they ARE NOT! So we should have a page for the TANFL,TFL/SWL and the new TSL.

MuntsMunts (talk) 08:03, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree. The SWL was an expanded TANFL so they stay together. It was AFL Tasmania that controlled the SWL in the finish and they control the new league. So there is a timeline which links them; therefore it's all the same thing. AFL-Cool (talk) 10:47, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just because they are run by the same group doesn't mean it's the same thing. Correct me if I'm wrong but the TSL was only agreed to in concept last year, so how can it be the same as the TFL. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.61.134.231 (talk) 02:42, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Run by the same group = same thing. AFL-Cool (talk) 07:31, 14 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know enough about Tassie football to comment but if the infobox and opening sentence of the article refer to the Tasmania State League than shouldn't this page be moved to that name? Jevansen (talk) 03:06, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes agree Jevansen. Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 07:28, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, disagree per what I said above, plus the fact that the word "football" is compulsory in a league. Tasmanian State League is a promotional name only. AFL-Cool (talk) 00:48, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is still the Tasmanian State League, you can make Tasmanian Football League redirect and also mention in the opening paragraph that the TSL is an australian rules football league. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Munts (talkcontribs) 06:14, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, if anything it should be the other way around. AFL-Cool 04:05, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On another note, this article states that Stuart Spencer shared the 1967 William Leitch Medal with his Clarence teammate John Richmond, but our Clarence article states Richmond won it outright. I'm guessing that it may have been won by Richmond on countback but Spencer later got a retrospective medal, which some records don't acknowledge. Can anyone confirm? Jevansen (talk) 01:08, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why has it been moved? Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 05:34, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou for moving it again. Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 06:22, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We should really have have the page called the TSL so its under its current name like the AFL was once the vfl but the wikipeida page aint called that. All times the league is names from 2009+ should also be called the TSL: User:Norchy_pies4life —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.179.250.141 (talk) 20:37, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No we should not. It causes confusion with soccer. AFL-Cool 21:53, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why not I mean the TFL was called the TSFL and SWL at some point. We would of changed it to the right name then if wikipedia existed at the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Norchy pies4life (talkcontribs) 22:49, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's name is the TFL. TSL is soccer and has nothing to do with this article. The TSFL and the SWL are irrelevant to the debate (calling it SWL in fact led to it's demise in part). I'm talking about the league name - not what we call it here. Future changes of that nature will be reverted as vandalism and be dealt with accordingly. AFL-Cool 00:21, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with this and I am protecting the current version with this in mind. Also it's called TFL by the fans of the league according to an official in AFL Tas. TSL is at best a promotional tag and should only be called that as a part of the tag (that is "Wrest Point State League") Footy Freak7 (talk) 22:12, 6 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing[edit]

This article really needs references! Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 20:57, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

.....and a bigger opening paragraph. Jevansen (talk) 01:11, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nearly all the info in the art really needs deleting as there is no refs. Aaroncrick(Tassie Boy talk) 13:30, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of it is from copies of the Mercury newspaper that is on microfilm from the State Library in Hobart.Forfuxake (talk) 13:19, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If they come from newspapers, isn't there a proper method for citing them? AFL-Cool 13:29, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I dunno mate, you tell me? I do (when time allows) quite a bit of reading and taking of notes from the microfilm archives down at the State Library, as you would guess, photocopying isn't possible. I'm not sure how to do the reference thing down the bottom Forfuxake (talk) 13:38, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shared names[edit]

Shouldn't the article explain how there can possibly be two teams called the Magpies and two teams called the Bombers, with (near-)identical uniforms? Because that's pretty bizarre to this non-Tasmanian. - Axver (talk) 08:18, 28 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is quite historically complex. As a (sort-of) Tasmanian, I am leery of posting a more full reply here, as it would include such Tasmanian English as "My fucken oath, cobber" and "The screws at the Pink Palace were more fucken interested in football in Tassie than the <redacted "WP:BLP" violations> ever fucken were".
Due to work commitments, I am limited to doing mostly WP:MOP stuff, with very little actual content writing. That said I'll do my my fucken best to address these concerns here, cobber.
