Cover versions[edit]

Is Pipeline one of the most covered "Surf" songs of all time? Maybe. In the "Pop" category, I hear that "Yesterday" by Paul McCartney has 3000 recorded versions. There are at least three different songs by the name "Pipeline". Beginnning in summer 2006, I have verified over 200 different artists covering the song Pipeline by Carman/Spickard. I have found another 70+ listings of songs that I have not yet verified to be the Pipeline by Carman/Spickard. I suspect that many versions have been lost in the sea of time. Does anyone know where I can find a comprehensive list of covers? Do royalty companies release this sort of information?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Fair use rationale for Image:Chantay's-Pipeline-45-label.jpg[edit]

Image:Chantay's-Pipeline-45-label.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

record/release date[edit]

Article says it was recorded in 1963 but released December 1962. Elrox (talk) 15:50, 5 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

renaming date[edit]

Article says that the tune was renamed *from* "Liberty's Whip" *after* the band members saw The Endless Summer. The tune was already named "Pipeline" before it reached the Hot 100 in March 1963. The Endless Summer wasn't released until 15 June 1966.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.51.124.13 (talkcontribs) 18:04, July 30, 2011(UTC)

Thank you for that observation. I found a reference about the change in the song's name. Although it was changed after seeing a surfing movie, the timeline is such that it could not have been The Endless Summer. I made some changes to reflect that.
