"The Earth is a beast" is incorrect![edit]

Hi

Your interpretation of the replacement line is incorrect. Peter Noone sings "The Earth is at peace, we've finished our news", not as you assume. The whole idea of altering the line was to sanitize the lyrics. Bitch or beast, neither would have sufficed for either Noone or his publishers. I would suggest that the article be amended accordingly. Best wishes. 86.112.60.40 (talk) 00:36, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Self-corrected: I have exhausted all sources trying to back up my claim, and now accept the lyrics as in the article. 86.112.60.40 (talk) 20:19, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lyrics[edit]

With regard to the introduction and references, The 'plot' of the song is widely thought to resemble and reference Aurthur C Clarke's science fiction novel 'Childhood's End', which deals with the evolution of the human race, culminating in the birth of a psychically evolved and final generation of recognisable humans. Shornconnery (talk) 11:03, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This assertion was in the article once but despite it being "widely thought", no editor was able to produce any citations to reliable sources to back it up, therefore it was eventually deleted. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 11:42, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed and I have also exhausted my sources attempting to provide a citation. Someone needs to ask Bowie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shornconnery (talkcontribs) 19:23, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Audio samples and official audio recordings[edit]

Why is it "better" to have Official audio recordings only as External links and not in the infobox (with or without samples also available)? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 15:50, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've only ever seen actual music video links appear in infoboxes. Audio links to my knowledge should appear in external links and to me, it makes much more sense that way. – zmbro (talk) 16:10, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
So why do we have a misc infobox insert to add Official audio or Official video to infoboxes? Someone must have thought it "made much more sense" to make them more accessible there than buried away in External links? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:16, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be expanding this after I finish "Changes". When I do, I'll probably be removing the infobox for Noone but I'll worry about that when I get there. After I'm done then I'll worry about where links are. – zmbro (talk) 16:34, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see. Thanks for explaining. You realise that the title of the Noone single was "Thing", but he sings "Things"? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:36, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep that in mind. – zmbro (talk) 16:52, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Glam[edit]

Does this source support the genre of glam rock? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:31, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see the page so I can't verify. If it says it is then yes. – zmbro (talk) 21:43, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's a shame. I mean, also, the entire book is about glam, so... Martinevans123 (talk) 22:39, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Again, if it says it is then you can add it. – zmbro (talk) 23:22, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Recorded as a demo, it was given to singer Peter Noone ... Seems a little ambiguous. This phrasing isn't clear on whether Bowie physically gave the demo to Noone or simply gave Noone permission to perform the song. Reading the body makes it clear it was the latter, so how about: Bowie recorded the song as a demo before giving it to singer Peter Noone, lead singer of Herman's Hermits, who recorded it as his debut solo single. or some similar variation?
  • I again made changes as I went through, included adding subsections which I thought worked nicely. If you disagree, feel free to remove.
  • I think the formatting of the chart isn't immediately intuitive; when I first saw it, I thought it was for Bowie's version before looking closer. How about if you remove the bolded "Noone's version" and change the chart's title to "Weekly chart performance for Peter Noone's version", or something slightly similar.
  • copyvio score of 24.8% (violation unlikely).
  • Images are all PD or have an appropriate fair use tag. What do you think about the audio sample at the bottom of the infobox? I'm not sure it meets the criteria as its content isn't really discussed in the article as far as I can tell.
  • I have to say, Peter Noone's version is pretty atrocious. Doesn't hold a candle Bowie's. Tkbrett (✉) 01:59, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Tkbrett Ngl I completely forgot about this until now. Queries resolved. I agree it's very bad. Pales in comparison to Bowie's, without a doubt one of his finest of the pre-Ziggy era. Thanks for reviewing! – zmbro (talk) 16:40, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Easy pass. Tkbrett (✉) 16:47, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lisa Hannigan / Legion[edit]

Lisa Hannigan covered it for the TV show Legion, but I don’t know where in the article to put that 100.14.252.211 (talk) 04:38, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Was her cover notable per WP:SONGCOVER? Meaning did it receive coverage from multiple reliable sources? If so we can do something about that but if not it doesn't warrant inclusion. – zmbro (talk) (cont) 04:44, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
