Notes[edit]

I'm thinking of this as being more like List of tallest buildings in the world rather than like the deleted list. I hope that's okay. I'll let someone else do tallest though.--T. Anthony 16:17, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking that Michael Dunn is the shortest adult to be nominated for an Oscar and Linda Hunt the shortest to win an Oscar. Unfortunately I can't find a source for either, but I might look later.--T. Anthony (talk) 08:35, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I hope the "under 1 meter" deal doesn't expand it too much. I didn't really find that many people who fit. I hope it's restrictive enough that it's not seen as an attempt to make this like the "List of short men/women" that got deleted.--T. Anthony (talk) 11:17, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bridgette Jordan is listed as living. She died on June 12, 2019. https://www.hugheyfh.com/notices/Bridgette-Jordan

Shortest for a reason[edit]

This was not "List of short humans" for a reason. We do not have lists of merely "short" things or beings as this is subjective. True this is not as clearcut as with "tall", see List of short place names, but generally seems preferred. For example the article Smallest organisms or List of shortest reigning monarchs of all time--T. Anthony (talk) 11:10, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

my recent edits[edit]

i added some height measurements for the world's smallest men, i got them while watching a documentary on channel 4 on the subject, the presenter (Mark Dolan) claimed to have got the names he investigated from this article (it showed him looking it up)Machete97 (talk) 23:01, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If so, as the creator and sometime editor, I guess I'm making an impact on a British TV special. That's so cool.--T. Anthony (talk) 08:42, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jeffrey Hudson makes the claim that Hudson was a perfectly proportioned, 18 or 19 inch tall man. Mike R (talk) 15:59, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Considering prodding or protecting it[edit]

This seems to get few real edits so vandalism from September 2009 remained until now. If anyone had checked the references for the women's section they would have noticed they didn't match the names in it. Sigh. If it doesn't improve soon I may prod or request protection.--T. Anthony (talk) 10:06, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Average shortedness?[edit]

What is the "Shortest people average height and height record"? Seems like statistics over the people listed on this page. Complete nonsense if you ask me. Firstly because different numbers of people are included in each category. Secondly because the qualifications for being an "actor" are vague to say the least. Can someone explain the list or remove it?

I removed the section. --Alter70 (talk) 07:18, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shortest adults[edit]

Perhaps the page ought to specify somewhere in the text that the Guinness World Records are for shortest adults; I'm fairly sure that babies of a height below 22 inches exist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.2.73.59 (talk) 23:33, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Shortest adults / TIME[edit]

I agree. BTW, this list does not agree with the data in TIME (20 Sep 2010). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.54.202.114 (talk) 16:43, 14 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There have been some abuses of this list. I had fought against that, but then grew tired. If others will source it better I'd be relieved.--T. Anthony (talk) 01:05, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should he be in the shortest men list? Where would I put him?--T. Anthony (talk) 08:20, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Color tables[edit]

The lists in this article should be better presented and I suggest that at the very least the living, deceased and disputed color tags should be added in here, (See: Oldest people).

  • The table:

  Deceased   Living   Disputed

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.172.21.157 (talk) 18:11, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added the colors to the 1st table, haven't gotten to the rest yet. Thanks for suggesting it! --Funandtrvl (talk) 19:15, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced Names[edit]

Seeing it could possibly go against Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons I will be removing unreferenced names of living people 7 days from now (November 16th) if they are not referenced by then. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 03:01, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Musicians[edit]

...Why isn't Prince on this list? He's only 5'3", the same height as Muggsy Bogues, the shortest NBA basketball player in history!

If you think he should be included then do so and provide a reliable reference with his height. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 00:33, 2 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Riccobene[edit]

"Barely five feet tall" - if I get a more specific source would there be a spot here? --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 16:38, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shortest Politicians[edit]

Why isn't Kim Jong Il listed, or for that matter Napoleon who also his shortness was exaggerated is still on the shorter end. Also, although probably not a politician but Ghengis Khan was about 5'1". BenW (talk) 22:19, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I added Kim Jong-Il (and Berlusconi). Napoleon's height was actually pretty average, standing roughly 169 cm. His shortness was part propaganda, part notational error: he was measured at 5'2" French feet, which corresponds to 5'6.5" English. No idea about Ghengis Khan, but will add him as well if I can find some reliable sources. --Brokshen (talk) 18:17, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The information about Napoleon is nonsense. Italian mens' average height was 161 cm in 1850, and French mens' average height was 163 cm the same year. With 169 cm he would have been clasified as tall at his time (corresponding roughly to about 180 cm today).--Jidu Boite (talk) 17:38, 13 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As it's now politicians, rather than leaders, I added Alan Eggleston who is the first politician I've found to actually have dwarfism. If there are others I may add them.--T. Anthony (talk) 15:35, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I found Charley Lockhart who was a Texas State Treasurer and even smaller. I wouldn't have imagined that during the Great Depression Texas had a dwarf as state treasurer. The cool things they don't teach in history class!--T. Anthony (talk) 15:54, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Should we scale this back?[edit]

Although I liked finding Charley Lockhart, also I started it with sportspeople and actors, should we cut it back to just being "shortest men" and "shortest women"? Or just cut it back to the first four sections: Shortest men, Shortest women, Shortest in sports, and Shortest actors? Because some of the others are starting to look a tad arbitrary.--T. Anthony (talk) 03:46, 31 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I was thinking the same thing. There needs to be a stricter inclusion criteria. I've removed all the people that haven't been described as the shortest anything, but there's still a lot of fairly arbitrary entries – like Michael Dunn, the shortest person to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. A line has to be drawn somewhere. I'd suggest keeping the "by occupation" section, but restricting it simply to "shortest actor", "shortest sportsperson", and "shortest world leader". The more names these lists contain, the less useful they become. DoctorKubla (talk) 22:28, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree as right now this list is at just 21KB, that and the people mentioned are notable for being the shortest in their professions. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 04:05, 31 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Models[edit]

I have removed the models section because it was unsourced, looking for sources online I found two canadates in Twiggy and Devon Aoki However the reliable sources differ on the heights of these two. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 15:32, 19 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Peter Dinklage?[edit]

Why not? 174.255.161.108 (talk) 01:17, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did some checking on him and i did not anything that describes or claims him as "shortest" in his lifetime or profession, in this case acting there is no source describing him as the shorest actor to... or the shortest american actor... something of notability that stands out based on his shortness. Oh and no im sorry but the source saying he won the emmy does not count as the website is unreliable that claims that. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 01:33, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There were good reasons why not, but with his Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series win I think he might fit as "shortest Emmy winner." Or the awards might justify a revisit.--T. Anthony (talk) 06:49, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sorting problem?[edit]

In the section for shortest men, for some reason Gul Mohammed (57cm) keeps appearing between Chandra Bahadur Dangi (54cm) and Junrey Balawing (56 cm), and sorting using the arrow on the Height column doesn't help. Neither did my edit to include .0 on Mohammed's height. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it? Seanette (talk) 04:47, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

People listed incorrectly as wrestlers[edit]

Lionel Giroux and Dylan Postl is listed incorrectly as wrestlers when in reality they're theater wrestlers aka. fake/"pro" wrestlers aka. actors. NumericalWarfare (talk) 00:24, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Junrey Balawing[edit]

Junrey Balawing was measured and confirmed to be the new Shortest living man when he turned 18 on 12 June this year. Junrey was found to be just 59.93cm (23.5 inches) tall when measured six times over a day at the Sindangan Health Centre near his home.

If you take a look it says "Published 14 September 2011" since that time Chandra Bahadur Dangi was confirmed as the shortest until he died. What we need is a source from 2016 confirming Junrey Balawing as the shortest living man. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 13:46, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Athletes[edit]

The athletes section almost entirely ignores the large number of people with various forms of dwarfism who have participated in a variety of sports at Paralympic Games. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:35, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would add them to List of people with dwarfism if they pass the inclusion for a stand alone article. The section here is for records for the shortest person ever in any given sport. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 16:40, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're ducking the issue, take a look at the sports currently listed, they're all "mainstream" sports. An entire "category" of sports is being ignored here, and by deflecting possible entries to another page, you're escalating the problem to actual discrimination. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 17:10, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not ducking anything, if we have an article about the world's shortest Paralympic athlete then feel free to add them here. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 17:35, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There was Naim Süleymanoğlu, but he's not on the list. He wasn't a Paralympic athlete, by the way.177.105.202.247 (talk) 23:57, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Édith Piaf's height[edit]

The article says that she 'never grew beyond 4 ft 8 in (142 cm)'. The French wikipedia article says 147 cm, and 147 cm = 4.82 ft, so I think the person simply got the centimeters wrong. I can't edit the article, so maybe someone else could. Luernios1 (talk) 13:18, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
